Pensacola evangelist Kent Hovind was sentenced Friday afternoon to 10 years in prison on charges of tax fraud.
After a lengthy sentencing hearing that last 5 1/2 hours, U.S. District Judge Casey Rodgers ordered Hovind also:
– Pay $640,000 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service.
– Pay the prosecution’s court costs of $7,078.
– Serve three years parole once he is released from prison.
Hovind’s wife, Jo Hovind, also was scheduled to be sentenced. Rodgers postponed her sentencing until March 1 to allow her defense attorney an opportunity to argue possible discrepancies in sentencing guidelines.
The Hovind case, at a glance
The Hovinds were charged with a total of 58 counts of tax evasion.
Counts one through 12 include Kent Hovind’s alleged failure to collect nearly $470,000 in employee taxes.
Counts 13 through 57 include both Kent and Jo Hovind. They are charged with structuring cash transactions of $430,500 to avoid reporting requirements.
Count 58 includes the following charges against Kent Hovind:
Filing a frivolous lawsuit against the IRS, demanding damages for criminal trespass.
Filing an injunction against an IRS agent.
Making threats against investigators and those cooperating with the investigation.
Filing false complaints against the IRS for false arrest, excessive use of force and theft.
Prior to his sentencing, a tearful Kent Hovind, also known as “Dr. Dino” asked for the court’s leniency.
“If it’s just money the IRS wants, there are thousands of people out there who will help pay the money they want so I can go back out there and preach,” Hovind said.
Hovind, founder of Creation Science Evangelism and Dinosaur Adventure Land in Pensacola, was found guilty in November of 58 federal counts, including failure to pay $845,000 in employee-related taxes. He faced a maximum of 288 years in prison.
Jo Hovind was charged and convicted in 44 of the counts involving evading bank-reporting requirements and faces a maximum of 225 years in prison.
Kent Hovind, who is incarcerated in the Escambia County Jail, will be assigned to a prison by the Bureau of Prisons. Rodgers recommended Kent Hovind be sent to the prison at Saufley Field in Pensacola so he will be close to his family.
It will be up to the Bureau of Prisons, however, to make that determination.

A federal clerk said Thursday U.S. District Judge Casey Rodgers will sentence the Hovinds at 9 a.m. today.
Kent Hovind, who has remained in custody at an undisclosed location since his conviction, faces a maximum of 288 years in prison. Jo Hovind could be sentenced to up to 225 years in prison. She has remained free pending sentencing.

He gave in the video the Websters definition of stupid and that his mom always taught him not to call people stupid.
Well kent have no problem with creation but your definitely stupid about your financial affairs
Quite apt when he shows the 10 commandments that "Thou shall not bear false witness (lie) " was highlighted
Interesting bit towards the end (1 hr 15mins) about the Evolutionists who taught that Negros, aborigines and Indians were lesser evolved i.e. not homo sapiens so it was ok to kill them Ruling elite still practice this?? _________________ JO911B.

You made a "mistake" in the title of this thread Tony. It should read "Ten years jail for Tax evader and Fraudster". Obviously an innocent error that anyone could make!- - no attempt to mislead!

He is claiming that he's running a religious ministry which he certainly appears to be.
As I understand it the court said he was just an ordinary business man.

And I'm sure that if you can get through all the stupid bits of creationist theory then it will contain some interesting points but unfortunately that's very hard to do whilst maintaining a straight face and one's sanity.

Which in itself is indicative of the grip evolutionists have on the dabte when a fringe speaker like Hovind has been such a prominent thorn in their side, and that one has to wade throw the literalist mud to get at the diamonds within from Hovinds work

Surely Creationists are a subset of 'intelligent design' adherants? He's in the Intelligent Design camp alright which is the fundamenal division with evolutionists.
No wonder this bloke's been locked up in jail! He's dead against denominations such as the Church of England and for open minded enquiry and discerning truth for yourself.
His ideas are at the core of so much stuff - and whilst I have serious questions myself about these theories, I love the way it challenges so many of our basic assumptions.
We have been taught to believe that it is irrational to question evolution and that anyone who even takes it seriously enough to raise questions is a wingnut.
