Man in court on bomb making charges

A 38-year-old man has appeared in court charged with preparing for a terrorist attack.
Hassan Muhammed Sabri Al Tabbakh, of Camelot Way, Small Heath, Birmingham, is accused of compiling a document with instructions on how to make a bomb and stockpiling chemicals for the device.
At City of Westminster Magistrates' Court, Al Tabbakh, who is of Syrian origin, was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on January 4.
Wearing a blue jumper over a white shirt and with a short beard, Al Tabbakh spoke through an interpreter to confirm his name, address and age.
The court heard that Al Tabbakh was arrested near his home in Birmingham on Tuesday.
He was charged on Saturday with the offence under section five of the Terrorism Act 2006.
It is alleged that with the intention of committing acts of terrorism or assisting others to commit such acts he compiled and retained a document with instructions for making a detonating bomb and obtained chemicals for the device.
The defendant did not apply for bail.
