Man survives 47 storey fall

A window washer who fell 47 storeys from the roof of a New York skyscraper is now awake, talking to his family and even expected to walk.
Alcides Moreno, a 37-year-old Ecuadorian immigrant, plummeted almost 500 feet when the scaffolding he was working on collapsed on Dec 7.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Moreno and his brother, Edgar, 30, fell to the street from the Upper East Side building after their platform broke loose. Edgar Moreno was killed but his brother was sitting up on the pavement when firemen arrived.
The accident left him in a critical condition with a collapsed lung, damaged kidneys and bone fractures, but his family said that he has now opened his eyes and is able to move his arms and legs.
But now doctors say he has movement in all his limbs. He is breathing on his own. And, on Christmas Day, he opened his mouth and spoke for the first time since the accident.
His wife, Rosario Moreno, cried as she thanked the doctors and nurses who kept him alive.
"Thank God for the miracle that we had," she said. "He keeps telling me that it just wasn't his time."

I guess the moral is there's always hope, even when plummeting towards the pavement at terminal velocity.

I wonder if he fell at free fall speed. I suppose all the scaffold tubes were shipped off to China and they were all in convenient size lengths to fit onto lorries.
