Hi guys,

Just thought I'd post about the current stories regarding social networking sites and Jaqui (2 faced) Smith saying that the internet is not beyond the government.

Originally basing social network sites as sites that promote extremism/terrorism, soon extending to being a potential cause for a village full of suicides (though only 1 village as of yet).

If for any reason the government passed a legislation that these "social networking sites" should be closed down or similar action taken, then would this site and all other 9/11 truth sites also come under this category?

I feel that this is the start of a serious attempt to rein in the internet, which in turn will remove the most free, freedom of speech tool in the world. Because not only will they close sites deemed social networking sites but possibly stop the creation of new social networking sites.

So I ask again if this is a social networking site and should we start worrying now and act on this?

Maybe a written (yes pen and paper) database of all members here?

We may end up having to contact each other via postal methods instead of the internet.

If we don't set up this emergency measure we will lose every contact in an instant.

I for one do not mind my name and address being on this list.

Ade.

Interesting here how when journalists take a closer look at the story the headlines change somewhat.

Suicide not linked to internet, say friends
Fran Yeoman, Simon de Bruxelles

From The Times
February 21, 2008

Friends of Jenna Parry, Bridgend’s most recent young suicide victim, dismissed suggestions yesterday that she had been influenced by the internet into taking her own life.

As they placed floral tributes to the 16-year-old beneath the tree where her body was found, they expressed their shock at her death and characterised her as a popular, happy teenager who gave no indication that she might take such drastic action.

Jessica Jones, Jenna’s best friend, said: “I just don’t know why she did it. She was a really happy bubbly girl and a really friendly person.

“I am still in shock,” the 17-year-old added. “I just don’t understand why she wanted to kill herself. I don’t believe there is an internet factor either — Jenna was hardly ever on the internet. She was more for going out and meeting people. She had a lot of friends.”....................

.................Sir Christopher Meyer, the chairman of the Press Complaints Commission, said he was monitoring coverage of the deaths to make sure that newspapers adhered to the industry’s code of practice. An inquest is due to be opened tomorrow on Jenna and on an earlier victim, Nathaniel Pritchard, 15.
