Freedom of Expression under attack on this Forum

Free Speech, but only where I say you can speak freely

Isn't there something about this in the UK Human Rights Act - surely?? |

Seriously, Tony, have you seen anyone about your multiple personality disorder?

Missing Posts, Changed Headlines and Changed Status
Yes, I have had posts disappear, my headlines changed, threads merged with others, or moved to different sections and I am now back to being a “Moderate Poster”, from being a “Validated” one.
At one stage, Tony Gosling sounded me out about becoming a moderator, but I did not jump at the approach, and I will now publicly reveal the reason for my caution. It was because I felt that the site was becoming polarised, with the moderators showing distinct bias against opinions with which they disagreed. Shortly before the following exchange, John White had made a personal attack on me, using the kind of abusive and insulting language which the rules of this website forbid, and I was demanding a withdrawal and an apology, or his suspension.
Personal message from Anthony Lawson to Tony Gosling
Quote: | Hello Tony,
I do not know what you mean by 'trolls,' but it doesn't sound too complimentary.
In any event, this PM is a small backstep; a reply to a PM which you sent on August 28th. When I saw that you were going on holiday, or taking a rest, I decided to forget all about the British 9/11 Peacing it Together forum, but, as you don’t seem to want to leave it alone, here is what you wrote, and my reply.

I had recommended you several weeks ago to become a moderator and we're at the stage of approaching you - making phone contact etc.
Stelios has had a final warning
If you can't let go of the bitterness then that reccomendation will go
I hoped you'd be able to see that the wider cause is more important than trying to ban potential (if somewhat ignorant) allies. |
If you are unable to detect the difference between bitterness and concern about personal abuse, bad language and unsubstantiated and un-withdrawn allegations made by a moderator and a member of this forum, then you are not the kind of person with whom I would wish to share any moderating responsibilities.
As for your statement: ‘I hoped you'd be able to see that the wider cause is more important…’ that kind of argument is used by those who believe that the ‘ends justify the means’, a philosophy to which I have never subscribed, because when you turn from the truth, if even for a moment, you are turning away from the only thing that really matters.
‘The wider cause is more important’ is the kind of reasoning that Bush and Blair used to begin massacring innocent people in Afghanistan and Iraq; one of the main reasons for the existence of this website.
I find that Stelios is a bigoted, disruptive fool, but John White is a moderator; a role which carries greater responsibilities, and your attempts to protect him from the consequences of his unwarranted attacks on another person—which he has shown that he still believes to have been justified—demonstrates the kind of bias which will sound the death knell of this website, unless it is stamped out.
The ‘greater good’ can only stem from honesty and decency, not the kind of partisanship which you are showing.
If you want to pursue the matter you’ve since brought up, about the missing posts, then we’d better get this cleared up first. And try to leave out schoolmasterish phrases like:
“I've just about had enough of the infighting you're generating here…” and try pinning the blame on those who cast the first stones.
Once again, I remind you of what you have previously written on this site about personal abuse and insults not being tolerated, although I cannot quote your exact words. From what’s gone before, this is rather two-faced of you, because you have tolerated it, coming from a moderator, but will not tolerate my reaction to the abuse.
Sincerely,
Anthony |
Tony Gosling is not a fit person to have any kind of rank in the running of a forum which is supposed to be dedicated to the truth. Yet he is clearly attempting to place himself in a position where he will be able to wield a lot of power. The following quotes demonstrate that I am not alone in my thinking:
James C wrote: | Yes Tony, why has my status been altered from that of Major Poster (and hence 9/11 truther) to 9/11 Truth Critic all because I disagree with Ian Crane et al. about peak oil?
I would like an answer from whoever it was who changed this and as you're the one who so often raises the issue of free speech across the media then I feel you should make every effort to expose who did this. |
Alwun wrote: | I'm afraid that for me this site is becoming highly suspect as to its very motives, even, and I no longer feel any special affinity for it. |
It will be interesting to see if this mood is echoed by others, or whether apathy rules already. _________________ The truth won't set you free, but identifying the liars could help make the world a better place. |
