Yeah right.

Back in the early '70's I recall Daily Mail articles predicting how - in the future - we would all live lives of leisure and luxury while nuclear powered robot-manned factories and farms produced all we could desire.

Turned out to be a load of old codswallop, eh what?

Pulling *down* more than your own weight (see the film) isn't possible unless you're anchored. It will be *you* that tends to rise, naturally. Anchored by a massive "robotic suit" perhaps? Or being tied to a dead sheep? So claiming some feat of cyber-weightlifting that can only work by weight being added to your own body is not really so impressive eh?

Meanwhile I suspect the iron suits might get a tad uncomfortable in 40°C Afghani summers. Not to mention limited manoeuverability.

Sure there are a lot of pie in the sky ideas I remember from shows like Tomorrow's World. I remember when they showcased cd's back in the early 80's saying you could spread jam on them and they'd still play. But failed to mention that cd players aren't jam-proof.

Sure he's anchored by the suit but not by anything else. He does seem to be able to move about freely. This proves (see film) that although he cant lift the weight without the suit he CAN lift/move the suit around easily. Which seems to counter what you're saying.

I'm sure regular army gear, helmets, boots and back packs aren't too breezy either.

Prototypes are prototypes. When it comes to War tech billions will be thrown at whatever project they deem irresistible. Which this is.
