Just thought of another principle:

Avoid provocative language about your colleagues, EG: Fascist, Stalinist, thought-police, Nazi. Sometimes it is necessary to point out that something is unacceptable in your comrade's behaviour, but it is better to point out why that is the case than to resort merely to such shorthand emotive epithets as: racist, homophobic, Islamophobic, anti-Semitic, Neocon etc. Such words tend to rile people and up the anti.
