two weekly bin collections

do two weekly bin collection really reduce peoples rubbish or cause more pollution

ive been think about this for a while and wonder if anyone has looked at what % of the population now burn there rubbish
and how many people every two weeks make a trip to the tip


myself i have to go to the tip at least once every two weeks sometimes both weeks i have to go

if only 5 people on my housing estate do the same thats 5 trips in 5 cars all going to the tip
instead of one lorry

how dose this save the enviroment

next i wonder how many of them incinerators have been sold untill recently i never saw any but the the other day i was walking to a local shop and saw a two buring away
thought good idea got one myself

ive set up a little poll out of intrest to see what people do

Never had a problem with the collections here to be honest. Bin for glass and tins, bin for paper, bin or composter for composting stuff and a general bin. the general bin gets collected every two weeks as does the bin for glass and tins and the other two get collected every month. Special collections for Christmas help too. Plastic bottles are always tricky and there really should be a collection for them. But all in all I've found it quite good.

When I moved to Glasgow at the time they hadn't yet implemented a recycling system. I actually found it really disappointing and I felt rather guilty knowing all my rubbish was going to some landfill site.

They later implemented a system with a bin for general waste and a bin for mixed recyclables. Which was better but would of course need someone to sort it out later which wasn't exactly the best way of doing it, but it was convenient. I think it ran on alternating weeks.

I've never struggled with the systems, and there were 4 of us under both systems. Frankly I think if you're not coping with the system you're doing it wrong.

im presuming send means getting your bin emptied via a normal bin collection?

my experience with the system here.......

we have one bin for plastic bottles/tins/glass jars.

we have another bin for cardboard/coloured paper/garden waste/food (wrapped in newspaper).

we have a bag for unwanted cloths.

and another bag for white paper/magizines/newspapers.

a black composter also for garden waste/food.

now to my experience with this system.

first off the council takes the bags and dos'nt provide new bags or give the old bags back. so the following time we put these items out in different bags and they were not took.

so we phoned the council for more bags, they provided us with some. the next time came and the same thing happened again.

its a major pain and you find yourself either having to throw things away you could normally recycle or accumilating lots of bags which get in the way.

everything else works fine.

when we use to get the bin emptied every week, we would sometimes have room for extra items, now its turned to two weeks we have no room for anything at all.

we recycle everything we possible can. yet find our selves accumilating things you would'nt throw away to often, household things.

the house has become cluttered the shed is full and we have no car.
the council will pick it up if we pay a certain price for so many items but we cannot really afford the extra.

when the bins were emptied everyweek there use to be a little extra room to brake down certain items and put in to, but now thats gone we are seriously accumilating things that are broke.

so although we don't burn things yet it is certainly getting to that point.
so i reckon when bonafire night comes there will be a lot of extra bonafires that would'nt normally be lit for sure.

maybe im in a different position to both of you i have a small baby and my bin is almost full just from the nappies leaving me with hardly any room for rubbish


today is sunday my bins were only emptyed last tuesday my bin is full and i now have 4 bin bags not in the bin and just in my back yard already covered in maggots
this could be were my problem is


also do u know what size your bins are as i know my mother in law also has a two weekly collection but her bin is almost twice the size of mine

all i can fit in mine is 2 bin bags but at a push i can get 3 in but i have to squash it in it ( like stand on the top to squash it all down which i have done on several occasions)

i also belive that we are being geared to a pay as you throw system all in the name of global warming and saving the planet

the craziest thing of the lot is if they really wanted to save the enviroment and stop global warming just give every one free public trasnsport problem solved

Oh it's not just that, there isn't alot of landfill space left and it's expensive.

If you have a new kid or some other reason, extra large family etc in my area you can ask the council for a second bin, no idea why you have been given a small one if you have.

Pester you council.

it was just an example of the types of items there is no longer any room for in the bin tele. the council will take them but it costs extra money nobody has got these days.

bonafire night car'nt come quick enough.
