Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone could help me...
I'm trying to put some lectures/documentaries onto dvd, but I'm having a bit of trouble. I've downloaded the files (which are .flv files) but i'm having trouble converting them to a dvd-suitable format. Any ideas on some good software?
Also, I've been told that converting an .flv to, say, an .avi file would lead to increase in the file size. So, as the dvds I've bought hold 4.7Gb, and one of the documentaries is 3 hours long and 3.77Gb before conversion, it might not fit on the disc!!
Any advice?
Many thanks

I use Total Video Converter to convert files to mpeg4 or avi which I find are best for standard dvd burning.
Sonic mydvd delux is by far the best dvd menu creation program I've come across.
Once you convert your file (if needed) you can create a very professional looking menu with sonic mydvd delux. There's a 'fit to dvd' option which helps with over running disc allocation. The quality isn't effected much either depending on how long your files are.
I've come across dvd's that people have made with some 10 or so hours worth of films on with amazing quality retained. I wish I knew how to do that! _________________ For the TV fakery people.

Ok, I've successfully converted the film to .avi format (woohoo!), and now i'm having trouble fitting it onto the disc. As I said, the disc space is 4.7Gb, and when I look at the file through explorer, it tells me the file size is about 700Mb in .avi format. But when I use PowerProducer 2 to burn it, it tells me the file is 12Gb!!!!
any ideas?? |

1) Rather than attempting to burn to a DVD (which obviously won't work), 'burn' (or save, whichever term is used) the DVD files to a folder on your hard drive (ignoring any warnings that it might be too large for a standard DVD).
2) From this, use DVD Shrink, saving to another folder on your hard drive.
3) Look for the VIDEO_TS folder and burn to a DVD using your DVD burning program.
A free version of DVD Shrink - take a look.

DVD Shrink wrote: | DVD Shrinks allow the user to select compression level for each video track separately to obtain the desired disc size (which is usually below 4.38GB). The software is capable of producing either an ISO image of the ripped DVD, or a VIDEO_TS folder for further processing, viewing or burning. |
