Donald Rumsfeld, the FDA, and the Stevia Conspiracy

Thanks again to 9/11 Blogger... in the comments section in one of the articles, there is this incredible story of Donald Rumsfeld involvement with the deadly aspartame sweetner (which is still used in diet soda, btw) and how he conspired with the FDA to ban Stevia, which is a natural (and healthy) sweetner. Since Stevia was a natural product, it could not be patented compared with, aspartame, which was and so threatened a very profitable business!

The report gives a nice brief historical record of Rumsfeld and describes how the FDA started burning cookbooks in the 1990s! Shades of Fahrenheit 451!!!

Its not just diet drinks I'd say 50% of all soft drinks and cordials in the UK have it!!

You have be vigalant, I thought it was just diet drinks as well and found out recently that a lot of non-diet soft drinks have aspartane as a "flavour enhancer" - it really is sick - cancer as a flavour enhancer, we shouldn't have to check the labels of legal food to be sure we aren't consuming posion....

Yes.Robinsons started putting aspartame in their standard dilutable juices a couple of years ago. The 'hi juice' brands are usually free. I only allow my kids Whole Earth or Fortiman's or Tesco/Morrisons organic fizzy pop or dilutable pop from the health store at home. Fresh-pressed fruit juices or water are immensely preferable of course Original Coke or preferably original 7-up- a good history until they produced their aspartame-laden Lite variety- when out
