Please spread far and wide!
Martial Law Will Be Declared If Banker Bill Not Passed In House http://www.infowars.com/?p=5053
Kurt Nimmo - Infowars - October 3, 2008
In House debate on the banker “rescue” bill, Rep. Brad Sherman told his fellow Congress critters the government will declare martial law and the stock market will drop 3,000 points if the bill is not passed. “The panic-mongers were to the point of telling people the market would drop 3,000 points and there would be martial law,” said Sherman.........

There's No Difference Between Martial Law and the Threat of Martial Law
If a bully threatens to beat up a skinny kid if he doesn't give him his lunch money, and the bully doesn't have to follow through because the kid does fork it over, does that mean that the aggressive kid isn't a bully?
Of course not. He's a bully because he threatened to beat up the skinny kid and used coercion to get his way.
Well, Congressman Sherman said that congress was threatened with martial law this week. Specifically, he says that Congress was told martial law would be imposed if they didn't pass the Paulson bailout proposal.
Martial law means that the separation of powers which the Founding Fathers enshrined in the Constitution are destroyed, and an all-powerful executive branch calls the shots.
Is the threat of imposing martial law any different than actually imposing it?
No. Congress is just like the skinny kid.
Just because it forked over $700 billion or more in our lunch money based upon coercion by the thugs in the executive branch doesn't mean that the thugs are still following the separation of powers or anything else in the Constitution.
Remember that, for years, Congress has operated under "martial law" provisions which force Congress members to vote on legislation without having time to adequately read and review it.
Remember also that the U.S. has been in a declared state of national emergency for 7 years, and normal constitutional provisions were probably long ago superseded.
As University of California Berkeley Professor Emeritus Peter Dale Scott has warned:
"The systems of checks and balances established by the U.S. Constitution would seem to be failing.
To put it another way, if the White House is successful in frustrating [Congress' requests], then [the declared state of emergency] has arguably already superseded the Constitution as a higher authority."
And remember that U.S. troops are being stationed inside the U.S. to suppress "civil unrest".
Whether or not there is martial law in name, there is martial law in fact.

Naomi Wolf (born November 12, 1962) is an American author, political consultant, and public intellectual. At a relatively young age, she became the literary star of what was later described as the "third-wave" of the feminist movement.[citation needed] She is also known for her advocacy of progressive politics.

This was a great post from the comments on that link, worth quoting:

Naomi, in 1933, America's power elité, many of those that financed Hitler into power sought to install via a violent coup a fascist government in control of America and it rested on the shoulders of one General but it failed due to this General's refusal to commit treason.
Its interesting that the current President's forebears were amongst the front runners of this coup attempt and its interesting to note that the coup was brought about by the New Deal which in turn was introduced in regards to the crash of that era.
This is where the Neo's will strike, will wait until the US is on its knees, overcommitted, its main army across in foreign lands and a tame force under false flag will be used to seize power, already Bush can declare an emergency and suspend Congress for SIX months with full power of decree, he can tear the constituition up, he can rewrite any law by executive order and he can even make himself "above" the law in the method of a true dictator.
Bush's emergency powers are identical to that of Hitler's enabling act, its interesting that here in the UK, we are facing the same thing, indeed one of Blair's last acts was to introduce something called the LLRB reform bill which if it had made it through would of given the Prime Minister the power to rule Britain by decree.
If you consider that under Bush's powers he has the ability in an emergency to rewrite it all so that there will never be another congress.
Remember there are many many hundreds of FEMA KZ camps, its coming to light also of the stockpiling of millions of "cremation" plastic coffins, the military are being used to quell "insurrection", police officers are brutally out of control, mercenaries being used on the streets of the USA, just substituite some of these "acceptable" aspects for your society to something more sinister, Waffen-SS (Green Card recruits), Brownshirts (Private contractors), Gestapo (DHS, FBI, CIA, NSA), you can go back in history and spot the same people as you see today, different uniforms, different names but STILL aspects of fascism and this is WHAT you America are facing.
I suspect that when the US falls under a miltary Junta, Britain will follow soon after, David Miliband has stated that he feels OK for the US to rule the world, these are dark days indeed.

FEMA Sources Confirm Coming Martial Law
'WMR has learned from knowledgeable Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) sources that the Bush administration is putting the final touches on a plan that would see martial law declared in the United States with various scenarios anticipated as triggers. The triggers include a continuing economic collapse with massive social unrest, bank closures resulting in violence against financial institutions, and another fraudulent presidential election that would result in rioting in major cities and campuses around the country.'
The plans to implement martial law in America have been taking shape for decades, hidden behind "Continuity of Government" contingency planning. Now, with public outcry over the banker bailout bill at fever pitch, all of the pieces are in place for the U.S. Army to start policing American citizens.
Several months before the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld approved an updated version of the U.S. Army's secret operational Continuity of Government (COG) plans.
A draft document published by the whistleblowing website Wikileaks entitled, "Army Regulation 500-3, Emergency Employment of Army and Other Resources. Army Continuity of Operations (COOP) Program," dated 19 January 2001, spells out changes in Army doctrine.

The Financial Collapse -
What Will Happen Next?
By Bruce Porteous
10-10-8
Many are surprised at the speed of events occurring with the current global economic collapse. Yet few appear to be aware of what is still to follow as events unfold in the days that lie ahead. For some years I have been writing about this economic collapse, and now will explain the events that will unfold over the coming weeks.
The present crisis is not just an economic crisis it is a political crisis also. What is unfolding now is a going to result in the end of the Anglo-Saxon dominance of the global economy, along with the collapse of their economies and military capacity. We are experiencing some of the most dramatic and historic events in the history of mankind. The political landscape of the world we live is being significantly changed.
Here is a brief summary of the events to unfold.
1. The Anglo-Saxon financial institutions will continue to haemorrhage as investors withdraw their funds and no longer refinance loans as they fall due. Many of the investors are foreigners who have lost confidence in investing in the Anglo-Saxon banking system.
2. The fall-out is impacting the European Union economies, resulting political and economic changes is how the way the EU is govern.
3. There will be a lack of confidence by the Asian countries in reinvesting in the Anglo-Saxon nations the withdrawal of their capital will result in the collapse of the US dollar, British pound and other currencies depended on the carry trade, followed by national bankruptcy.
4. While Asia and European economies will survive and once-again prosper, the Anglo-Saxon nations will collapse into deep depression, poverty and social disintegration.
5. A new economic model will emerge, where the State replaces the private sector, exercising control over the population in how commercial activity is conducted.
Central banks over the last couple of weeks around the world have been increasing the money supply to prop up a collapsing banking system. In simple terms, this has meant creating money to advance to banks to ensure that they have funds to pay depositors and to provide additional funds to ensure banks will continue lending.
The recent $US700 billion bailout in the USA means that the banks will be repaid by the government for their bad loans, with the hope that they will continue loaning once again to debt-laden consumers to entice them to purchase more goods that they really don't need in an effort to stimulate consumer spending. Yet banks are having trouble to find credit-worthy customers to lend to, or do not have the funds to lend at all as depositors withdraw their savings.
The expansion of credit through the global banking system on the scale of the last few weeks has been a risky gamble yet has failed to restore confidence in the global equity markets, and which in turn is further weakening the banking system as depreciating assets destroy their balance sheets.
The Anglo-Saxon nations are depended on their foreign creditors rolling over their loans they have advanced through the international banking system or by purchasing Government Bonds. Their creditors have been seduced into lending to them through complex financial products and high interest rates. The English speaking world need the inflow of capital to be to finance their current account deficits and maintain domestic liquidity. Without the inflow of foreign capital their currencies risk collapsing, drying up liquidity and economic activity in their markets. Countries such as the UK, USA, Australia and New Zealand now face national bankruptcy. They will not be able to sustain economic activity to generate the foreign exchange to enable them to repay their enormous debts to their foreign creditors.
Many have compared the current crisis to that of the depression of the thirties. However there are some significant differences. The problems that prolonged the depression of the thirties were from a lack of liquidity in the markets. This time, Central Banks have flooded the markets with money to prop up the banking system and in a vain effort to stimulate economic growth. This is eventually going to be disastrousness. Printing money in a desperate effort to solve the current economic crisis will only make the situation worse. The market was already flooded with money on a market that lacked confidence and has declining productive output. The outcome will be a lack of confidence in fiat money and a flight to gold or currencies that are perceived as being safe.
At present the flow of money between banks has slowed because of a lack of confidence. Yet this is not the real problem. The current situation has been bought about as a result of continuing expanding the money supply in the Anglo-Saxon economies while maintaining large current account deficits. This has resulted in their banking systems are dependent on an inflow of capital from countries operating with current account surpluses, especially China and Japan. Printing money to finance payment of imports, dividends on investments and interest payments cannot be sustained indefinitely. The current crunch has come at a time when there has been a slow-down in the global economy, partly due to the collapse of an over-heated housing market in the West, making it more difficult for the indebted Anglo-Saxon nations to service their debts.
We are now seeing a dramatic shift of wealth from the Anglo-Saxon nations to Asia. Though the US dollar has recently appreciated against the Euro, this will only be for a short time as the world becomes flooded with unwanted dollars. The collapse of the US dollar and British pound will also drag down those currencies that have been supported by the carry trade that is dependent on the inflow of overseas capital to sustain their economic activity.
The current crisis will have enormous global politically recupssions. It will see the end of the ascendency of the western democracies. People will be willing to accept authoritarian forms of government out of economic necessity. Europe will experience the biggest political change. The current crisis has shown the inability of divided leadership in Europe to react to a crisis on the magnitude that has happened over the last couple of weeks. This crisis will bring together the EU nations under a single leader and political system.
The acceptance of a single EU leader with the power to take control of restoring prosperity to the European economies will result in the State taking a much greater role in how economies are managed. Already we are seeing Governments taking over failed banks, and legislation is rapidly being passed to give the State the authority to direct investment and control the banking system. Once this confidence is restored the Euro will quickly replace the US dollar as the international currency to finance globally trade. As currencies collapse, the Euro will be accepted as an alternative currency, so if will be widely accepted around the world as the money of choice. This will enable the EU to have great economic and political influence around the globe.
We will shortly see the collapse of the economies and currencies of the USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. The speed of this collapse is catching many by surprise. It will happen once their overseas investors withdraw confidence in their economies and withdraw their capital. Without being able to roll over their loans there will be a collapse of their currencies and defaulting on their international debt obligations. They will be blamed for the economic crisis that has engulfed the globe, bringing the hatred of the whole world against them.
It will result in the Anglo-Saxon nations sink into abject poverty; their people face starvation, disease, famine, and abject poverty. Their people will suffer greatly, as their societies sink into anarchy, as law and order breaks down, and society collapses. Their nations will be taken over by their creditors as they try and recover their debts, and their people put into slavery. It will be a time of great suffering and tribulation to its people.
One consequences of this calamity is that religious freedom as we have known it will be greatly curtailed, as the State imposes its will upon those subject to it.
How have the Anglo-Saxon nations got themselves into such a mess, when they were the most powerful economic and military powers on earth? The current situation is a direct result of rejecting the economic and moral laws God has given our nations to ensure that we have a society of equity, and prosperity, rather than what we have today a society that is based on greed, pursuit of the self, pleasure and rejection of moral and religious values. It is a society bent on self-destruction, but few realize the consequences of such actions.
Over the coming weeks I will write as events quickly unfold as we sink into the darkness of economic abyss.
A feminist! I wonder how many feminists are on this list? I wonder what Naomi has done to question 9/11! I think I know the answer.
Everyone I see posting on this list is male. It says a lot about our world, some of you will know what I'm saying.
Yes Naomi make excellent points but she's also selling a point.
The coup, 01/08! Err I don't think so. Coups take place all the time, in the US and in the UK, 9/11 was a kind of coup (but not in the traditional sense), Thatcher / Major was another coup, 77 was I surpose a type of coup as it allowed Blair to push through dictatorial powers - just not all of them!
What's happening to the money markets? Well the massive amounts of money being pumped in UK=aprox $1 trillion (that's just the official figure) and the US $700 billion (very official - trillions have been pumped in liquidity to prop Wall Street up) and lets not forget the £150 billion in (counter productive) bribes has just gone to bail out the bankers, not the banks!
The system is falling down. I predicted it would happen, aged about 11, it isn't rocket science, anyone with common sence who can add 2 + 2 could have worked out the system was a pack of cards built on a house of cards.
Anyone with more that 2IQ can also work out that the more money you pump into finance markets to prop them up, the higher you hike inflation, the more you lumber taxpayers, companies and local authorities.
The money would have been more helpfull being pumped into infastructure projects to stimulate the economy - the resession sparked off the problem with people defaulting on their loans and morgages.
The economic meltdown is not a surprise. The surprise has been the amount of money chucked at the bankers to bail them out, when they shoul have been left to fail and the market could have found it's feet without coming to terms with massive inflation exasserbating the problem that caused the problem.
The fact no one seems to be talking about this is incredible.
That said the economic system that forced Corporate Facsism and Disaster Capitalism on us is dead.
However, Naoim is still making money out of a crisis. She's very attractive isn't she and like most attractive women she knows a trick of two! I know this .

Sorry Jazds, if you think this thread is about putting Naomi Wolf on a pedestal your very wrong
And your just as wrong if you don't recognise that deploying US troops to "control" US citizens on US soil doesn't cross a fundamental line that the essence of the US constitution enshrines, and that in itself constitutes criminal actions by government and a defacto coup against the rights of the American people, especially if its because its being said by a woman who has other views you may not agree with
I have never and will never consider these forums to be about finding and listening only to people I 100% agree with
But positive and pro-active actions, and solutions, come from working where we do agree and agreeing to differ on the rest _________________ Free your Self and Free the World
But I'm not convinced that Naomi's intention is real. Maybe I'm biased cause I see feminists as indocrinated political missionaries! Coup now and not 9/11 or the (well documented) very crooked 2000 and 2004 ellections?
Anything could be true - believe me I've got a VERY open mind since realising 9/11 was a lie. However, I think the financial collapse is for real, what they are doing with our money though is a real bone of contention because that isn't just making things worse - for REAL - but you'd think they would see you can just plug a hole in a sinking ship with more water!

you are so mind controlled if you think all so-called feminists are all the same. There are many different strands. stop having a pop at them and get on with building coalitions with people whatever gender or colour or creed, to resist the global empire. The urgency of unity is now!!
people in the early 80's such as the american indian movement and black panthers knew the US was building concentration (fema) camps but were ignored as paranoid. The US would deny it. It wasnt til hurricane katrina, that the whole world woke up to these camps existence.
i recommend the book confessions of an economic hitman by john perkins - he whistleblew on the way the corporatocracy works - debt slavery. _________________ "injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere" Martin Luther king
Naomi Wolf thinks this is just a Bush problem and everything will be find when the Dems get in.
Feminists are pre-programed, indocrinated missionaries indended to encourage women into professional careers - nothing wrong with that but there is something wrong with the way women are used (same way third and second world immigrants are) to keep labour costs down.
I don't trust Naomi Wolf, I think she's full of ****. She spends far too long on her looks, to ever bother too seriously with the state of America or for that matter the world.
I agree we should work together but I also believe that if we see someone using an opportunity to make a buck we should call them on it.
Wolf has had plenty of time to grasp reality and wake up. What she has grasped instead is the opportunity to sell her book. I don't like it and I will state it.
We can all see whats going on behind the headlines - it isn't rocket science to work out 9/11 was an inside job. So why is Naomi so quite about that? What about the rigged ellections? Sorry too many people, too quite, for too long, who could make a difference don't. Then they see an opportunity to make money! They are in-fact part of the problem, it's that mind set that caused it, it is that problem that will perpetuate it. If it does then we (humans) deserve to become extinct as a result of our own stupidity and greed!
3rd Infantry’s 1st BCT trains for a new dwell-time mission. Helping ‘people at home’ may become a permanent part of the active Army
By Gina Cavallaro - Staff writer
Posted : Tuesday Sep 30, 2008 16:16:12 EDT
The 3rd Infantry Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team has spent 35 of the last 60 months in Iraq patrolling in full battle rattle, helping restore essential services and escorting supply convoys.
Now they’re training for the same mission — with a twist — at home.
Beginning Oct. 1 for 12 months, the 1st BCT will be under the day-to-day control of U.S. Army North, the Army service component of Northern Command, as an on-call federal response force for natural or manmade emergencies and disasters, including terrorist attacks.
It is not the first time an active-duty unit has been tapped to help at home. In August 2005, for example, when Hurricane Katrina unleashed hell in Mississippi and Louisiana, several active-duty units were pulled from various posts and mobilized to those areas.
But this new mission marks the first time an active unit has been given a dedicated assignment to NorthCom, a joint command established in 2002 to provide command and control for federal homeland defense efforts and coordinate defense support of civil authorities.
After 1st BCT finishes its dwell-time mission, expectations are that another, as yet unnamed, active-duty brigade will take over and that the mission will be a permanent one.
“Right now, the response force requirement will be an enduring mission. How the [Defense Department] chooses to source that and whether or not they continue to assign them to NorthCom, that could change in the future,” said Army Col. Louis Vogler, chief of NorthCom future operations. “Now, the plan is to assign a force every year.”
The command is at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colo., but the soldiers with 1st BCT, who returned in April after 15 months in Iraq, will operate out of their home post at Fort Stewart, Ga., where they’ll be able to go to school, spend time with their families and train for their new homeland mission as well as the counterinsurgency mission in the war zones.
Stop-loss will not be in effect, so soldiers will be able to leave the Army or move to new assignments during the mission, and the operational tempo will be variable.
Don’t look for any extra time off, though. The at-home mission does not take the place of scheduled combat-zone deployments and will take place during the so-called dwell time a unit gets to reset and regenerate after a deployment.
The 1st of the 3rd is still scheduled to deploy to either Iraq or Afghanistan in early 2010, which means the soldiers will have been home a minimum of 20 months by the time they ship out.
In the meantime, they’ll learn new skills, use some of the ones they acquired in the war zone and more than likely will not be shot at while doing any of it.
They may be called upon to help with civil unrest and crowd control or to deal with potentially horrific scenarios such as massive poisoning and chaos in response to a chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear or high-yield explosive, or CBRNE, attack.
Training for homeland scenarios has already begun at Fort Stewart and includes specialty tasks such as knowing how to use the “jaws of life” to extract a person from a mangled vehicle; extra medical training for a CBRNE incident; and working with U.S. Forestry Service experts on how to go in with chainsaws and cut and clear trees to clear a road or area.
The 1st BCT’s soldiers also will learn how to use “the first ever nonlethal package that the Army has fielded,” 1st BCT commander Col. Roger Cloutier said, referring to crowd and traffic control equipment and nonlethal weapons designed to subdue unruly or dangerous individuals without killing them.
The package is for use only in war-zone operations, not for any domestic purpose.
“It’s a new modular package of nonlethal capabilities that they’re fielding. They’ve been using pieces of it in Iraq, but this is the first time that these modules were consolidated and this package fielded, and because of this mission we’re undertaking we were the first to get it.”
The package includes equipment to stand up a hasty road block; spike strips for slowing, stopping or controlling traffic; shields and batons; and, beanbag bullets.
“I was the first guy in the brigade to get Tasered,” said Cloutier, describing the experience as “your worst muscle cramp ever — times 10 throughout your whole body.
“I’m not a small guy, I weigh 230 pounds ... it put me on my knees in seconds.”
The brigade will not change its name, but the force will be known for the next year as a CBRNE Consequence Management Response Force, or CCMRF (pronounced “sea-smurf”).
“I can’t think of a more noble mission than this,” said Cloutier, who took command in July. “We’ve been all over the world during this time of conflict, but now our mission is to take care of citizens at home ... and depending on where an event occurred, you’re going home to take care of your home town, your loved ones.”
While soldiers’ combat training is applicable, he said, some nuances don’t apply.
“If we go in, we’re going in to help American citizens on American soil, to save lives, provide critical life support, help clear debris, restore normalcy and support whatever local agencies need us to do, so it’s kind of a different role,” said Cloutier, who, as the division operations officer on the last rotation, learned of the homeland mission a few months ago while they were still in Iraq.
Some brigade elements will be on call around the clock, during which time they’ll do their regular marksmanship, gunnery and other deployment training. That’s because the unit will continue to train and reset for the next deployment, even as it serves in its CCMRF mission.
Should personnel be needed at an earthquake in California, for example, all or part of the brigade could be scrambled there, depending on the extent of the need and the specialties involved.
Other branches included
The active Army’s new dwell-time mission is part of a NorthCom and DOD response package.
Active-duty soldiers will be part of a force that includes elements from other military branches and dedicated National Guard Weapons of Mass Destruction-Civil Support Teams.
A final mission rehearsal exercise is scheduled for mid-September at Fort Stewart and will be run by Joint Task Force Civil Support, a unit based out of Fort Monroe, Va., that will coordinate and evaluate the interservice event.
In addition to 1st BCT, other Army units will take part in the two-week training exercise, including elements of the 1st Medical Brigade out of Fort Hood, Texas, and the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade from Fort Bragg, N.C.
There also will be Air Force engineer and medical units, the Marine Corps Chemical, Biological Initial Reaction Force, a Navy weather team and members of the Defense Logistics Agency and the Defense Threat Reduction Agency.
One of the things Vogler said they’ll be looking at is communications capabilities between the services.
“It is a concern, and we’re trying to check that and one of the ways we do that is by having these sorts of exercises. Leading up to this, we are going to rehearse and set up some of the communications systems to make sure we have interoperability,” he said.
“I don’t know what America’s overall plan is — I just know that 24 hours a day, seven days a week, there are soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines that are standing by to come and help if they’re called,” Cloutier said. “It makes me feel good as an American to know that my country has dedicated a force to come in and help the people at home.”
———
Correction:
A non-lethal crowd control package fielded to 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, described in the original version of this story, is intended for use on deployments to the war zone, not in the U.S., as previously stated.
Regards,
Ian.

I've just sent this newsletter out on the US Martial Law issue, and the situation in the UK. Many thanks for those who have contributed material that I've been able to make use of.
Berkshire 9/11 Truth Campaign: Martial Law
Quote:
Dear all,
After I joined the 9/11 Truth Campaign in December 2006 I was asking what happens when half the US population no longer believes the official story.
Some of us thought the US Administration might panic and launch a false flag attack and abolish elections. I thought the dollar would collapse as confidence fell, but others, who had a better understanding of how economic cycles work, were telling me that there would be an engineered economic collapse.
Alex Jones, who runs a radio chat show in the US, has been warning of Martial Law for a long time. He predicted 9/11. He's produced films on the topic. See his website at http://infowars.com .
Well, we're there now. The event was the financial melt-down. But it's not just the dollar, it's the world. The US regime is acquiring enormous powers as a result. Something similar is happening in the UK.
As part of the regime's pressure which was being put onto members of the US House of Representatives, some members of the house were told that if the bill for government intervention in the banking system was not passed, then a state of Martial Law would be declared. See http://www.infowars.com/?p=5053 for a write-up and a video clip.
The author of a new book 'Give Me Liberty: A Handbook for American Revolutionaries' has claimed in an Internet TV interview that a coup took place in the US on October 1: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=_XgkeTanCGI
According to Infowars, their correspondent "has learned from knowledgeable Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) sources that the Bush administration is putting the final touches on a plan that would see martial law declared in the United States with various scenarios anticipated as triggers. The triggers include a continuing economic collapse with massive social unrest, bank closures resulting in violence against financial institutions, and another fraudulent presidential election that would result in rioting in major cities and campuses around the country." See: http://www.infowars.com/?p=5165
On election fraud, a new documentary is going around Picture House cinemas, called 'How Ohio Pulled it Off'. Unfortunately, I missed the showing in Newbury, but a report I heard was alarming. See http://www.howohiopulleditoff.com/ . The cinema chain is at http://www.picturehouses.co.uk/ .
The way in which plans for Martial Law were developed are reviewed at
http://globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=10473 . Martial Law has been phased in in a series of incremental changes. It describes how anti-terrorist legislation has been extended to enable the arrest of opponents of the Government.
In the UK we saw how anti-terrorist legislation was brought in recently against Iceland, following the collapse of financial institutions there. Some time ago, we saw how Labour party veteran Walter Wolfgang was grabbed and detained under anti-terrorist legislation when he shouted 'Nonsense' at Foreign Minister Jack Straw, who had claimed that they were bringing democracy to Iraq ( http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=AWsGZw4CVOY ). In the US we saw how student Andrew Meyer was grabbed by police and tortured when he asked former US Presidential candidate John Kerry why he had so easily submitted to George Bush when he, John Kerry, had won the election, and then went on to ask whether they were both members of the same secret society ( http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=sE76LQwT6qA ). That was just the tip of the iceberg.
In the UK we have seen creeping legislation affecting basic democratic rights, and this was featured in the film 'Taking Liberties' (http://www.noliberties.com/). Some lawyers were saying that whoever was to take over from Tony Blair, he would inherit more means of gaining absolute control than Adolf Hitler inherited from Hindenburg.
Now large-scale covert infiltration has been reported in all sorts of public institutions across the country, following extensive research by former naval officer Brian Gerrish. A political organisation masquerading as a charity now has 18 000 of its own people in key positions in local government, the National Health Service, the BBC and other institutions, with the aim of taking control. They divert public funds and have people in high places. Some of the research results are published on http://cpexposed.com, which has a link to a video lecture. He gave a lecture on October 7 under the title 'Who's really running Britain?'. Details are at http://www.changingtimes.org.uk/ . There is an audio of this at http://www.changingtimes.org.uk/Lectures/BrianGerrish/BrianGerrish.m3u
I had realised that something like this must exist from my own observations. What Brian Gerrish describes is much deeper than anything I had imagined. I had been investigating membership collapse in a charitable membership association that I had been involved in for many years. That led me on to look for parallel examples, and I found them in the penetration of even 'tiny organisation which pose no threat to national security'. See the books ( http://www.amazon.co.uk ):
Defending the Realm: Inside MI5 and the War on Terrorism by Mark Hollingsworth and Nick Fielding (Paperback - 2 Jun 2003)
Spies, Lies and Whistleblowers: MI5, MI6 and the Shayler Affair by Annie Machon (Hardcover - May 2005)
It later became clear to me that there had to be some bigger network. It is possible that Common Purpose is only the tip of the iceberg.
Brian Gerrish, in his talk, urges people to expose what is going on at the grass roots level. That means being alert in any organisations you are a member of, however charming the people concerned may be. Naomi Wolf's 'Ten Steps to Tyranny' include subversion of citizens associations ( http://www.obsidianhustle.com/2007/11/ten_steps_to_tyranny.html ). It's now widely believed that this is far more extensive than just the big protest movements.
I think it's important for us all to be alert in whatever groups we may be involved with. All too often these things are left to individual whistleblowers, whilst others remain silent, and the majority go along with the official line. To understand how this works, see Solomon Asch's experimental work on Conformance ( http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-tXPIfBkzhs ).
To break this, we need to understand the importance of speaking out, or at least asking the right questions. As soon as the whistleblower is no longer in a minority of one, things begin to change.
So, if you are in a membership organisation, be especially alert if there is a move to * criticise an individual on the basis of only vague allegations * be evasive on straight-forward questions * answer questions by attacking the character of the questioner * obfuscate on the accounts * focus in the treasurer's report on details of investments rather than on the essential issues, such as the use of the money and budgets * distance the members from the committee on the basis of Charity Status or the Trustees being 'professionals' * elitism * fob off critics rather than acting on criticisms * ignore points made at the AGM in subsequent committee meetings * do things which gain credit for the committee rather than to get results * target the membership with their publicity or promotion rather than the outside world * misapply the Data Protection Act to cut off regional branches * criticise a committee member for being critical of the committee * criticise a member for being in a minority of one too often in the voting * con members into voting for a resolution on the basis that only Trustees of a Charity can really decide * use gestures or oratory to persuade rather than facts and arguments * implement excessive secrecy or confidentiality * make allegations in respect to others of which they themselves may be guilty * make serial mess-ups whilst showing no willingness to leave office * create furores without any visible sign of attempts to sort the problem out * serially to create quarrels with key individuals * blame everyone but themselves for things going wrong * defend themselves by saying "I've heard that a hundred times before" but not saying what the answer was * record questions in the minutes without giving the answers.
Beware also of people who use their status, their authority or their credence in order to persuade, rather than the force of argument. The one about having heard a complaint or question a hundred time before was a repeated reaction both of the President of my association and the former head of MI6, who played a role in making a fallacious case for invading Iraq. Once his authority was disregarded in questions following a lecture at the London School of Economics, he had nothing to fall back on.
I was surprised how my own observations seemed to apply right up to Cabinet level. See Clare Short's autobiography ('An Honourable Deception?: New Labour, Iraq, and the Misuse of Power'), in which she states that the UK has not had cabinet government since 1997.
If you are in Liberty, ask yourself why only the paid Chief Executive Officer is ever interviewed by the mainstream press. She is a former Home Office barrister. I attended one AGM, and was appalled at a resolution to enable the committee to expel any committee member who said anything to the press that he had not been authorised to say. That seemed to me like an attack on civil liberties. I was the first to speak out, saying that I had met a similar situation in another membership organisation and that such provision can be abused. The motion was thrown out.
That's where we are in civil liberties. I agree with Brian Gerrish's approach, that in order to preserve democracy we must work at it at grass roots level and speak out. We must also avoid being angry or provoked. If you are too persistent they will try to push you over the edge. Once you accept that they may be doing this on purpose life gets a whole lot easier. I stuck it out for two years of constant ad hominem attacks in six issues of the journals of my association per year, simply because I had ignored their intimitation. In the end they made a mistake by admitting that a communication of mine bore the implication that they were out to destroy the association, but they denied nothing of what I had written. Instead, they invented clearly faked allegations to knock down ('straw man argument'). Their own former legal adviser stepped in ( http://rik.poreo.org ) and I reported this at the 2008 AGM. The campaign then stopped, and then many people started taking an interest in what I had to say.
In short: observe, listen, discuss, don't be fobbed off, don't be provoked. Document everything.
We all need to wake up to what is going on, and to call people in official positions to account, whether in national government, in local government, in public bodies, in quangos, and even in small voluntary associations.
Best wishes with your endeavours. Every little bit will help.
