Scholars for 9-11 Truth & Justice Misrepresented in Draft Bill Sent to 8 House Members
Berkeley, CA, October 22, 2008 -- On October 18, 2008, an OpEdNews article titled, "8 House Members View Draft Bill on Independent Science/Tech Probe of WTC 1, 2, 7 Collapses," was published by four members of the group Scholars for 9/11 Truth & Justice (STJ911.org). The authors of the article and draft bill are not spokespersons for Scholars for 9/11 Truth & Justice, and therefore are individually responsible for it.
Scholars for 9/11 Truth & Justice does not endorse the draft bill due to the inclusion of numerous unscientific claims and misrepresentations, and condemns in the strongest of terms any associations between the organization and the claims presented by the authors of this bill. As stated at the front page of their website, Scholars for 9-11 Truth and Justice "take[s] care to present the strongest, most credible research available..."
While in agreement with the authors of this bill that a new investigation into the tragic events of September 11, 2001 is warranted, representatives of the Scholars group note that the draft bill and article lack basic scientific rigor and credibility, with statements such as, "the entire WTC [complex] was destroyed by directed energy weaponry (DEW)," and the ideas that "nuclear materials, missiles or DEW weapons were used." The sister publication of the Scholars group, The Journal of 9/11 Studies (www.JournalOf911Studies.com), has numerous peer-reviewed scientific articles refuting such claims.
Scholars for 9/11 Truth & Justice believes that a much better bill can be crafted using the strong analysis in articles by its members, several of which are recently published in scientific journals, including The Open Civil Engineering Journal, The Environmentalist, and the Journal of Engineering Mechanics.
Kevin Ryan, a former Underwriters Laboratories (UL) manager who was fired in 2004 for publicly questioning the NIST report, and a committee member of the Scholars' group, says the bill is harmful to the cause of exposing the truth. "Basically," he said, "asking Congress to investigate many poorly defined, and highly implausible hypotheses minimizes the chances that Congress would be willing or able to investigate the actual evidence for the demolition of three WTC buildings." In fact, the bill also omits any mention of the 9/11 Family Steering Committee, which provided hundreds of questions left unanswered by the 9/11 Commission.
Scholars' member Dr. Steven E. Jones, a Professor of Physics, also notes that statements attributed to him in the bill are "errors . . . misrepresenting my published statements." Dr. Jones goes on to say, "It is unacceptable to misrepresent my views, as is done in this document by Ellis et al., and to ignore my published technical papers in established journals."

Leave it to Victoria Ashley to turn a positive into a negative.
Four members of the Scholars for 9/11 Truth & Justice recently made presentations to science and technology legislative staffers of eight members of the United States House of Representatives, including Rush Holt (D-NJ-12), who has been critical of the FBI's claims about the Anthrax case. And this was not just talk, but a draft bill was produced.
Their draft bill took months of research, discussion, and writing before the final draft was sent for review and changes to Joel Hirschhorn and 22 nationally recognized experts either on the 9/11 event or renown in the scientific and technological fields about the collapses.
Among them were three other Scholars in the vanguard of science and technology field issuing the initial adverse verdicts on NIST’s August 2008 report about the WTC 7.
But rather than meet with the representitives, or coordinate this with scholars, or offer praise, Victoria Ashley has decided to pick another public fight with members of the 9/11 Truth movement.
This is a draft bill, and can be modified, just like almost ever other draft bill in congress, before it is voted on.
At issue is the mention in the draft bill of the "ray-beams" theory of Dr. Judy Wood.
[There is also a minor error regarding the work Dr. Steven Jones that can be fixed easily.]
First of all, no claim is made in the draft bill that this "ray-beam" theory is true. Nor is this "ray-beam" theory the focus of the bill.
This portion of the bill could be removed. Or since the Scholars for 9/11 Truth & Justice have already proven this theory to be untrue, the issue could be investigated and clarified by the special committee and lay this issue to rest. Light could be shed on the real capabilities of space-based weapons.
All pioneering scientific work contains errors. The greatest scientists in history, from Galileo, to Newton, to Darwin, to Wegener, the Einstein, all made errors.
We need to praise Dr. Barbara Ellis for her hard work. Nobody is perfect. But if Dr. Ellis can help get a real official probe going on the WTC, then we can move closer to the truth.
FYI
Here is the most important part of the bill, the part that establishes membership on the investigative committee. This portion of the draft bill was ignored by Victoria Ashley:
"SEC. 4. MEMBERSHIP
(a) Members – The Committee shall be composed of the following 25 individuals or their designees:
(1) 1 Member shall be designated chair by the mutual consultation of the Committee chair and ranking member. Credentials shall require nationally recognized expertise either in structural engineering or architecture for steel-framed, high-rise buildings.
Remaining members will be selected by consultations of the House Committee’s chair, and the ranking member, and the Act’s Committee chair, shall include:
(2) 3 Members from the architects and structural engineers who designed and built the WTC.
(3) 4 Members from the New York City Fire Department who directed operations on September 11, 2001 at the affected three buildings.

(4) 2 Members from the Custodial and Maintenance staffs of the three aforenamed WTC buildings who were on duty September 11, 2001.

(6) 2 Members from the Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth and Justice.
(7) 4 Members from the National Association of Demolition Contractors with expertise on steel-framed high-rise buildings.
( 2 Members with internationally recognized credentials in directed-energy weaponry.
(9) 3 Members from the international scientific community with recognized expertise either in the scientific or technological aspect of structural collapses of steel-framed buildings.
(10) 1 Member of the House Committee on Science and Technology with expertise either in architecture or structural engineering."

To me it is clear, that a committee composed of these members would be able to figure out that the WTC was destroyed by explosives.
The actions of Victoria Ashley are destructive and should be condemned by all memebrs of the 9/11 Truth movement. Her press release is an embarrassment to 9/11 Truth, an insult to Dr. Ellis, and seems designed to discredit the Scholars for 9/11 Truth & Justice by making it look clueless. |

The press release is not by "Victoria Ashley". It is a statement endorsed by Scholars for 9/11 Truth and Justice, so he is making a false statement by claiming that "Victoria Ashley" is responsible for the document. Obviously.
Perhaps Rolf Lindgren also believes that Barrett should stop criticizing senator candidates? After all, they are all senator candidates and are all on the same team! Go America! Go Democracy! End Criticism (... sorry, "attacks")! Stop Criticizing Bush Too! He's our leader and we're all Americans! We shouldn't criticize (... sorry, "attack").

Rolf Lindgren is making hilariously tortured arguments to defend discredited claims widely rejected by the vast majority of the movement. In other emails he has said that these claims are not promoted by the MSM and therefore not important. Now he says that we can promote them to Congress and it doesn't matter.
He considers criticizing these ideas a form of "attack". |

Lies & Distortions From Arabesque
Arabesque is distorting the work of Dr. Barbara Ellis, by claiming her draft bill "promotes" disinformation theories, including the ray-beam theory of Dr. Judy Wood.
But the draft bill does not "promote" the ray-beam theory, it only includes it among the many theories to be investigated by a special commission, regarding the destruction of the WTC. A real investigation of the WTC would be able to determine that explosives, not ray-beams, took down the WTC.
If this bill were to become law, then the ray-beam theory could be officially debunked, and we would all be spared the cat-fights on the Internet regarding this topic.
Arabesque wants the shield the ray-beam theory from official debunking, and is therefore, working in league with Fetzer, and the rest ray-beam crowd.
Arabesque also ignores that the draft bill is not final, and can be modified. The draft bill is a good start.
