Sir Paul Judge was on the Andrew Marr show this morning and he is in the process of creating a new political party. From what I understand, every candidate will have their own manifesto.
A NEW political party aimed at “cleaning up politics” is being set up by a multi-millionaire businessman. Sir Paul Judge, a former Tory grandee, believes the power of the internet and disillusionment with sleaze make the time right for a party dedicated to independent thought and open governance.
Judge hopes the new party will act as a lightning rod for voters alienated by Westminster’s tribal divisions and endemic scandals. It aims to field a full complement of 72 candidates in the European elections in June as a prelude to campaigning in the next general election, which must take place by June 2010.
The party has no specific policies and no manifesto. Instead, it will select its candidates by public vote from anyone who puts themselves forward, provided they are committed to the principles of good governance, including selflessness, integrity, openness and honesty.
Launched in mid March 2009, the Jury Team was founded for those people who believe in democracy, but who have observed how the current party political system has turned the United Kingdom's Parliament and Government into the creatures of a small and increasingly distant group of oligarchical politicians.
...
It is the Jury Team's aim that by using modern technology we can restore proper democracy and integrity to our democratic institutions by allowing people, selected openly by their fellow citizens, to become Independent MPs and MEPs.
We are, through this website, organising a nationally coordinated process to select our Jury Team candidates in the equivalent of a primary election. Once selected we will then support the election of the chosen candidates to become Independent MPs and MEPs. When elected they will not be subject to a party whip but will all be committed to improving the governance of Parliaments and Governments.
Jury Team candidates will be selected as potential MEPs for the 2009 European Parliament elections on the 4th June 2009, as potential MPs for whenever the next general election is held in 2009/10 and for the 2011 Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Local Government elections.
The intention of the Jury Team is not only to listen to the British people but also to involve them much more directly in the political system. This will lead to their Parliament having the capacity and structures to represent their interests and their Government operating in a way in which the needs of the people are given greater priority than the needs of any political party.
Proposals
End of the Party Whips
Transparent Pay for MPs and MEPs
An independent Politicians Complaints Commission
Capping donations to political parties
Elected Select Committees
European Legislation applied appropriately
Term limits for MPs and MEPs
General elections every five years
Referendums as requested by 5% of the electorate
Government departments run by a Board
Independent publication of Government statistics
Applying these principles to the EU _________________ Currently working on a new website

All men are equal but some are more equal than others. Sounds a bit like all the candidates will have a "common purpose" rather than specific solutions
Despite my skepticism we couldnt do much worse than with those weve already got. _________________ JO911B.

Unlike the other political parties, the Jury Team is a party without a hierarchy and without a party line. The only things we are committed to are fair, open and accountable governance. This is a truly democratic movement and all the power is with you - the people. If you agree with us we ask you for your support.

Is this a personal view? For those without a inferiority complex you may apply to be a canidate and not wait till a canidate is imposed on you.

Yes they have a common purpose, as outlined above. Perhaps you can define what issue you require a specific solution for.
It is not possible to be a member of this organisation without being a skeptic, which I believe to be a healthy trait. I am however prepared to take things on face value until there is reasonable doubt that they are not what they seem. If your skepticism blinds you to anything new how do you hope to change the system?

Sounds like a wonderful little initiative this.
Reflects some of the good characteristice of Independent local Councillors who meet together.
No mention of re-nationalisation of utilities which would surely be pretty central.

This is a joke. People cannot co-operate just because they are all against certain things. This party will be like ourselves. Agreeing on 9/11 and little else.
