Will London’s G20 turn into Battle of Seattle II?

With governments teetering on the financial brink and CEOs looking worse than comic book villains, next month’s G20 summit may hold some surprises as leaders gather in London to find ways out of the economic night.

The thousands of protesters who regularly disrupt economic summits as predictably as birds fly south for the winter have been called many things in the past – from anti-capitalists to anti-globalists to black-flag anarchists who just want to hurl rocks and insults at riot police and upset the global village reverie.

The protesters respond that they are fighting not to bring down capitalism, or western civilization, or even the New World Order but to rescue it from the monolithic, faceless organizations – the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, G8 and G20 are some of their favorite bogeymen – that aspire to be rulers of the universe.

Probably not for the Saturday demo, but the G20 April events next week,the police are geared up for big trouble, with forces drafted in from other areas, with riot equipped police deployed, all hyped up for the start of the "summer of rage", no doubt with agent provocateur emplacements amongst the peaceful crowds, looking to start a riot
The Met and intelligence agencies predict civil disorder, which indicates they are primed to start it, whatever
A set piece to bring into play more of the law already in place

People should remember the enforced lesson of the Bradford riots of 7/7 (whoah there boy!) 2001. That with video and photographic surveillence, and with the "help" of the grassers in the community,and local press, miscreants can be hauled up before the judge many months after a riot and be given long prison sentences quite imcommensurate with the crime
