'Hezbollah planned huge terror attacks in Tel Aviv'
by Yoav Stern, Haaretz, 16 April 2009
Quote: | Hezbollah operatives caught in Egypt planned to carry out massive terror attacks in Tel Aviv, the Egyptian newspaper Almasry Alyoum reported Thursday.
The paper based the report on the testimonies of two Palestinians from the Fatah movement, who are being held in Egypt on suspicion of belonging to a Hezbollah cell. They reportedly told Egyptian investigators that Tel Aviv was one target in Israel for which they were trained to perpetrate large-scale suicide bombings. |

Quote: | 'Key Mossad agent' in Lebanon custody
Thu, 16 Apr 2009 10:05:53 GMT
Hezbollah says an arrested retired general who is charged with spying for Israel's Intelligence Agency, Mossad is an important agent.
Deputy leader of Hezbollah Sheikh Naeem Qassem said Lebanese security forces kept retired Lebanese general Adib al-Aalam under surveillance for three months before arresting him. The forces then asked Hezbollah to provide information about ret. Gen. al-Aalam.
Al-Aalam who worked in the Lebanese Interior Ministry on security affairs was arrested along with his wife on Saturday in his hometown -- the southern Lebanese city of Bint Jbeil. The couple is suspected of passing classified information to Mossad agents.
"Preliminary information indicates that he had been working as a spy for Israel for over 25 years and retired from his position in national security eight years ago," Qassem said.
The Hezbollah official noted that the movement would reveal more details about al-Aalam's role, responsibilities and relations with Israel, adding that the investigation into his case is still underway.
He was an important agent and "his arrest was a major achievement," Qassem said.
Al-Aalm's wife, who is allegedly his accomplice, revealed information that was denied by Al-Aalm.
"Israel works vertically, and not horizontally. It collaborates with two or three people, and if one network is caught, it may not point in the direction of the other networks," Qassem said.
The Lebanese Hezbollah has direct cooperation with the Lebanon's security forces in identifying and arresting the individuals who have carried out espionage operations and contributed to Israeli secret services.
