Chairman of Birmingham Central Mosque calls for 7/7 public inquiry
Jul 6 2009
The chairman of Birmingham Central Mosque has accused the Government of covering up the 7/7 bomb attacks and called for an immediate public inquiry.
Speaking to a crowd of about 50 people gathered at the mosque last night, Dr Mohammed Naseem said if the Government had nothing to hide it would be quick to act.
He told his audience he did not have his own view but he disputed evidence already put forward, including video confessions by two of the bombers.
He said: “The country has lost all its values, all its traditions, so we’ve got to do something. We have to raise our voice that we need an open, independent public inquiry of 7/7.
“I’m asking questions that I think are right and proper so please do not put me in a pigeon hole that doesn’t fit me. I do not buy any conspiracy theory, I want to clear the air.”
Dr Naseem denied his stance would upset the families of the 52 people killed in the attacks by British-born suicide bombers Mohammad Sidique Khan, aged 30, Shehzad Tanweer, aged 22, Germaine Lindsay, aged 19, and Hasib Mir Hussain, aged 18, on July 7, 2005.
Speaking outside the meeting, he said he thought they wanted the same questions asked.
He said: “We’re asking for the same thing so their cause will be served by an open, independent inquiry, rather than the way it is being dealt with now.”
Asked what led him to believe the confessions were false, he said: “Anybody can make a video and if there’s nothing to hide, if all these things are true, then what’s the harm for the sake of community cohesion, for the sake of peace in the country, for the sake of coming together, of having an independent inquiry?”
A short film called Ludicrous Diversion was also shown which tackled, what its anonymous makers described, as the “unexplained discrepancies” and “unanswered questions” of Britain’s worst terrorist attack.
It urged its viewers to question the police, media and MPs about 7/7, but to expect “at best their response will be polite disinterest”.
Also at the meeting were people wearing T-shirts which said the attack on 9/11 “was an inside job”.
Wearing one was Jonathan Scobie, a 25-year-old, former property developer, who lives in Brindley Place.
He said: “People don’t believe it, you’re accusing your own Government of some involvement. We’re all good people, we just want to live a good life. You see how things have changed in society and you’ve got to ask why things are designed.”
When Dr Naseem was asked about the T-shirts he replied: “That is for them to explain. I don’t have any view, I’m raising questions.”
Perry Barr MP Khalid Mahmood this weekend criticised Dr Naseem for insulting the memory of those who died.
He said: “This conspiracy is just complete and utter nonsense.
“If anyone had any facts to prove it I would be the first one to take them to Parliament.
“But they don’t because it isn’t true.”
Also speaking were anti-war campaigners Tony Gosling and Martin Summer and Quaker Noel Glynn, who all backed Dr Naseem’s call.

With sadness and frustration, I found out Dr. Naseem had died in April this year. Like another very good person who I was intending to contact, farmer Mark Purdey, when I started checking his current status, I found he had died.
You can get an idea of the kind of man Dr. Naseem was by reading the previous posts on this thread, and by reading the following two obits:
Faith leaders converge for funeral of humanitarian Dr Mohammad Naseem:

and:
Tributes to city Muslim leader Dr Mohammed Naseem:

RIP, Dr Mohammed Naseem. You are in a far better place, but your life's work will continue to inspire Muslims and others who have had contact with you or knowledge of your work for many years. _________________ 'And he (the devil) said to him: To thee will I give all this power, and the glory of them; for to me they are delivered, and to whom I will, I give them'.
