I too consider myself something of a historian. From my own researches there is absolutely no doubt whatsoever that a Holocaust occurred in Germany in the 1940's - around half the victims were of Jewish descent. The gas chambers (crematoria) did exist but possibly not until the 1950's, according to latest 'uncovered' documentation from Auschwitz curator Franciszek Piper...
Where most 'historians' go wrong, semiotically speaking, is in isolating one genocidal event amongst far too many and promoting it as THE Holocaust (definition 'Burnt Sacrifice').
Normal decent empathetic people are easily manipulated by the unscrupulous and psychopathic (see clip above) when it comes to matters of the heart and spirit. There's nothing quite like throwing a genocidal event in such people's faces to elicit sympathy and compassion (and yes, guilt by association!).

There were certainly crematoria at Auschwitz for cremating the bodies of anyone who died (over 60,000, including 30,000+ Jews, according to documents released by the Soviets in 1991).....there was certainly a delousing 'gas chamber' for disinfecting clothing.
The controversial aspect is over the existence of a similar gas chamber(s) at Auschwitz for the dispatch of humans.
Maybe this is a question for some other place, some other time.

Wading through the propaganda is a full time job, hence the indecisiveness. Piper's is, so far, the only authoritive source for my indecision. On a side note, it is truly amazing how one's net connection gets 'played around with' when attempting access to these issues, despite firewalls, despite Tor... makes one wonder just where the present spate of cyber-attacks originate.
Here's another example of deadly propaganda, along the same lines. Decent loving people can no longer ignore the evil in their midst. It is past time for strong, lawful, concerted action in this time of the lifting of the veils.
