...er, how many have we had this millenium? I've lost count! what is causing this ? sun spots? normal weather paterns? human impacts on the carbon cycle and biosphere generally? |

The claim by New York Times...
Quote: | Study Finds Big Storms on a 1,000-Year Rise
Published: August 13, 2009
The North Atlantic Ocean has spawned more hurricanes and tropical storms over the last decade than it has since a similarly stormy period 1,000 years ago, according to a new study. |
It certainly seems true for the period 1851 - 2008 according to this link...
http://weather.unisys.com/hurricane/atlantic/index.html
2000 -2008 seems by far to have the most major storms during the 150+ year period.
2005 being the 'worst' year with 28 as far as I can see.
Not sure about the last 1000 years though. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/user/bobzimmerfan?feature=mhum#p/a |

Hi GSTT
Funny isn't it given "global warming" has ceased in this decade, with no discernable increase in global temperatures we still apparently have an increase in severe storms according to your link?
I wonder what else could trigger these apparent increases in severe
weather events,it's certainly seems an enigma as far as I can see! _________________ The poster previously known as "Newspeak International" |

Indeed.
I haven't ever really decided which side of the AGW debate I support.
I dont have the necessary scientific background to really appreciate the data involved.
The recent email scandal is intriguing but as the storm data shows there does seem to be an increase in the frequency of storms at least in the North Atlantic area. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/user/bobzimmerfan?feature=mhum#p/a |

Really!
I gave a clear opening for the alternative proposition, one which you have declined to propose. That is disappointing considering the links in your signature GSTT. _________________ The poster previously known as "Newspeak International" |

I'm afraid I'm not sure what you're getting at Frank. A clear opening for what alternative proposition?
Weather Modification to support AGW? Maybe. If that's what you mean.
Not sure how my links relate apart from the fact one mentions a hurricane.
But it doesn't relate to AGW or WM either.
Perhaps I'm missing something? _________________ http://www.youtube.com/user/bobzimmerfan?feature=mhum#p/a |

I was thinking HAARP and scaler weaponry specificaly, and their linkage to chemtrails and the microwave transmitters.Maybe you haven't looked that far yet?
Or just thinks it's BS! _________________ The poster previously known as "Newspeak International" |

I expect "Frank"'s got some "alternative science".
But whatever, I'll see your one in a 1000 year storm, and raise you a one in 3000 year heatwave.
http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/03/18/2192987.htm
"The closest Adelaide has ever come to a spring heat wave was 4 days in a row 1894. This month’s event will double that — a doubling like this is not twice as unlikely, it’s orders of magnitude more unlikely.
Consider that in prior to 2008, the record length for an Adelaide heat wave in any month was 8 days (all occurring in summer). Now, in the space of less than 2 years, we’ve had a 15 day event in Mar 2008
(a 1 in 3000 year event), a 9 day sequence in Jan/Feb 2009
(which included 8 days above 40°C and 13 consecutive days above 33°C), and now, another 8 day event in Nov 2009.
How unusual is this? There have been 6 previous heat waves that lasted 8 days, many more of 7 days, more still of 6, and so on — the return time is logarithmically related to it’s length.
Given these data, and the fact that the latest spring event has equaled previous all-time summer records (!), and the alarm bells should rightly be ringing.
Statistically speaking, it’s astronomically unlikely that such a sequence of rare heat waves would occur by chance, if the climate wasn’t warming. But of course, it is.

Sure. Totally plausible theories. Haarp, chemtrails etc. Very intruiging. I dont think it's BS. As far as AGW and WM is concerned anyway.
But I just dont know at this point.
My links serve to address inconsistancies in a controversial 9/11 theory.
They are not meant to discredit the existence of the technologies those theories are based on. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/user/bobzimmerfan?feature=mhum#p/a |

Well. As you may have guessed. the BBC is running a a series that is trying to debunk AGW skeptics. I have never seen a more vulgar display of propaganda.
This show will only be up for a week. Then it will go to episode 3.

It all kicked off with Horizon:How Many People Can Live on Planet Earth
presented by Sir David Attenborough (a trusted figure in his field),who early on mentioned the work of Thomas Malthus.
Next came Hot Planet the same evening with Iain Stewart, and Kathy Sykes giving it a youthfull appeal.Following up a few days later by my favourite peace of total fearmongering the "drama-documentary-animation hybrid" The Age of Stupid, set in the devastated world of 2055 with real archive footage from 2008.
Earth:The Climate Wars 1,2 & 3 I think these were probably all presented by Dr Iain Stewart (again), I missed the 1st one.
All in all the BBC did a pretty good job of showing how biased their policy
on climate change (previously know as global warming) is.Hardly a word said for differing views. What was said about the Sun as the main driver of climate was derided with "most scientist agree" the Sun doesn't explain all the anomalies! _________________ The poster previously known as "Newspeak International" |

Everyone checkout the Community Channel on Sky 539 • Virgin TV 233 • Freeview 87. They are in full swing propaganda mode regarding AGW. _________________ "It's called the American Dream, because you have to be alseep to believe it"
