Osama Bin Laden - dead or alive?

Mike Rudin of the BBC, producer of the Conspiracy Files series of programmes debunking theories about 9/11 other than the official one has sent us this e-mail about his latest effort.

Can anyone record it for us?

Just seen the programme.

It was a bit better than his WTC7 and 7/7 efforts but Rudin has done it again: not proving the official story, dissing the concept of asking questions and knocking of the alternative viewpoint.

Basically, for the official story: you have Authority Figures saying "trust us" and a few irrelevant narratives...

David Frost, for example, seemed convincing but strange that he didn't follow up Bhutto's OBL-is-dead statement

The only interesting bit was the discussion on the fake video/audio. The programme concentrated on the CIA as being the perpetrator of fake OBL videos/audio when, of couse, it could have been managed by any numerous agencies or FISs...

This was another appalling set 'em up and knock 'em down programme. Just typical
It glossed over the 'confession' video with no direct comparisons of visuals as are readily available, and just some idiot giving a highly suspect digital comparison which appeared to use a refutable source

The Conspiracy Files: Osama Bin Laden - Dead or Alive?
shown on BBC 2 Jan 10 at 9.30 Still available on iplayer

This programme started by saying that the last public sighting of Bin Laden was in Pakistan in 2002 shortly before he left with 1000 supporters to Tora Bora, the base from which he had formerly fought the Russians. The western allies, being short of suitable ground support, very thoroughly bombed the Tora Bora complex.

Footage was then shown of Bin Laden, supported by a frame, travelling by night on a mule into Pakistan. More footage was then shown of a simple funeral procession to a burial site.

Several people interviewed then expressed the view that Bin Laden was dead, including the President of Pakistan and Dr David Griffin.

Several other people, intelligence agents and military personnel subsequently interviewed, then expressed their view that he was alive even though no trace of him can be found.

Meanwhile [not in the programme] The military have a new plan to seek out Bin Laden. they are shortly to take delivery of 300
Predator pilotless aircraft to complement the 40 they already have in use, at a total cost of $ 2 billion. On top of that they have ordered 300
of a later and more lethal variant called the Reaper at a cost of a further $7 billion.

In order to solve the mystery of Bin Laden’s whereabouts one might think that it would be a lot cheaper and easier to go to the alleged burial site, excavate it and solve the mystery once and for all.
However the might of American intelligence services, CIA NSA etc haven’t thought of doing that.

It seems like Osama Ben Laden is alive if you want him to be.

Then, of course, there is the Dread Pirate Roberts theory of OBL.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dread_Pirate_Roberts

As soon as the original OBL died in 2002, a replacement OBL was created, with blacker beard and able to perform great horse riding feats to gullible reporters in 2006!

A Spanish politician has said he was shocked to find out the FBI had used his photo for a digitally-altered image showing how Osama Bin Laden might look.

Gaspar Llamazares said he would no longer feel safe travelling to the US after his hair and parts of his face appeared on a most-wanted poster.

He said the use of a real person for the mocked-up image was "shameless".

The Spanish newspaper El Mundo said an FBI spokesman had admitted the agency had taken a picture from Google Images.

The digitally-altered photos of the al-Qaeda leader, showing how he might look now, aged 52, were issued by the US state department on Friday.

Officials said they had adapted a 1998 file image to take account of a decade's worth of ageing, and possible changes to facial hair.

'Low level' intelligence

Mr Llamazares, 52, the former leader of the United Left coalition in parliament, said he could not believe it when he was first told about the similarity between himself and the new photo-fit of Bin Laden.

He said he soon realised that his forehead, hair and jaw-line had been "cut and pasted" from an old campaign photograph.

Bin Laden's safety is not threatened by this but mine certainly is
Gaspar Llamazares

"I was surprised and angered because it's the most shameless use of a real person to make up the image of a terrorist," he told a news conference.

"It's almost like out of a comedy if it didn't deal with matters as serious as Bin Laden and citizens' security."

The FBI claimed to have used "cutting edge" technology, but Mr Llamazares said it showed the "low level" of US intelligence services and could cause problems if he was wrongly identified as the Saudi.

"Bin Laden's safety is not threatened by this but mine certainly is," he said, adding that he was considering taking legal action.

El Mundo quoted FBI spokesman Ken Hoffman as saying a technician "was not satisfied" with the hair features offered by the FBI's software programme and instead used part of a photo of Mr Llamazares posted on the internet.

"The technician had no idea whose image he had found and no dark motive for using it," he told the newspaper.

The FBI did not respond immediately when asked for comment on Saturday, requesting that questions be sent to it by e-mail.
