The latest issue of Private Eye has a short article about the rebranding of Diet Coke as Coke Zero in which it states that:
| Private Eye wrote: | This month sees the launch of Coca-Cola's new concoction, Coke Zero, with all the cross media marketing splurge you'd expect from the brand who invented the regeneration game.
On the back of the snafus that accompanied the launch of New Coke in 1985 (which everyone hated) and its spring water Dasani two years ago (which turned out to be gently carcinogenictap water), you'd have thought Coke would want anything but controversy with it's latest multi-million pound launch.
Which is why Coke Zero's packaging is somewhat surprising - it features what look like collapsing towers set against a black, apocalyptic background, and all of these next to the word Zero.
Coke has often been accused of being tasteless... but rarely in this sense. |
It has been suggested that Coke have employed subliminal images to market their products in the past and it may be a mere coincidence that shortly after claims that female breasts were depicted by the bubbles in glass in the Diet Coke artwork that it was withdrawn.

Coke Zero is a joke - it's Diet Coke with an all-new male-orientated branding. It's still 11:30, no matter how you look at it...

| I read this article too - does anyone really think it looks like collapsing towers? I kinda see it, but it is a little tenuous isn't it? |
