Israel Will Bomb Iranian Nuclear Sites Next Month, Ex-CIA Agent Predicts
www.businessinsider.com
Pentagon's ready for war, he says.

Quote:
Robert Baer, a former CIA agent in the Middle East, predicted on a radio show today that Israel will bomb Iran's nuclear facilities next month, before the Palestinians go to the United Nations for statehood recognition.
MJ Rosenberg of the Huffington Post writes that Baer "didn't name sources for his prediction of an Israeli attack, but the few he did cite are all Israeli security figures" who have come out against such an attack, like former Mossad chief Meir Dagan, who has warned that an Israeli attack on Iran is both imminent and "stupid."

Baer—whose memoir was the basis of the 2005 film Syriana, starring George Clooney—says that an Israeli attack on Iran would drag the United States into a massive, costly war in the Middle East. And the U.S. military, he alleged, is not opposed.
"There's a standing order in the Pentagon" to prepare for war, he said, according to Rosenberg.
Pronouncements that an Israeli attack on Iran is imminent have been a constant in recent years, culminating in Jeffrey Goldberg's soon-to-expire prediction from last summer that an attack would take place in the next 12 months. There's no evidence to believe that Baer's warning is any more prescient or authoritative than previous ones.

'NATO planning military attack on Iran'
Sat Aug 6, 2011 10:2AM GMT

Russia's envoy to NATO Dmitry Rogozin
Russia's envoy to NATO Dmitry Rogozin says the NATO is planning a military strike against the Islamic Republic to overthrow the Iranian government.

Rogozin said in an interview with Russia's Izvestia daily newspaper published on Friday that the NATO was pursuing a long-reaching goal of preparing an attack on Iran, adding that the alliance intends to change governments whose views do not coincide with those of the West.

"The noose around Iran is tightening. Military planning against Iran is underway. And we are certainly concerned about an escalation of a large-scale war in this huge region," Rogozin added.

The Russian envoy further pointed out that Syria and later Yemen could be NATO's last steps on the way to launch an attack on Iran.

This comes as there are speculations that Israel is preparing for an attack on Iran's nuclear facilities to divert attention from Palestinian efforts to join the United Nations.

Last month, former CIA agent Robert Baer said he is almost certain that such an attack has been scheduled for September ahead of a UN vote on recognizing a Palestinian state.

Europe's Five "Undeclared Nuclear Weapons States"
Are Turkey, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands and Italy Nuclear Powers? (Answer YES ed.)

by Prof. Michel Chossudovsky - Global Research, February 12, 2010

According to a recent report, former NATO Secretary-General George Robertson confirmed that Turkey possesses 40-90 "Made in America" nuclear weapons at the Incirlik military base.(en.trend.az/)

Does this mean that Turkey is a nuclear power?

"Far from making Europe safer, and far from producing a less nuclear dependent Europe, [the policy] may well end up bringing more nuclear weapons into the European continent, and frustrating some of the attempts that are being made to get multilateral nuclear disarmament," (Former NATO Secretary-General George Robertson quoted in Global Security, February 10, 2010)

"'Is Italy capable of delivering a thermonuclear strike?...

Could the Belgians and the Dutch drop hydrogen bombs on enemy targets?...

Germany's air force couldn't possibly be training to deliver bombs 13 times more powerful than the one that destroyed Hiroshima, could it?...

Nuclear bombs are stored on air-force bases in Italy, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands — and planes from each of those countries are capable of delivering them." ("What to Do About Europe's Secret Nukes." Time Magazine, December 2, 2009)

The "Official" Nuclear Weapons States

Five countries, the US, UK, France, China and Russia are considered to be "nuclear weapons states" (NWS), "an internationally recognized status conferred by the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT)". Three other "Non NPT countries" (i.e. non-signatory states of the NPT) including India, Pakistan and North Korea, have recognized possessing nuclear weapons.

Israel: "Undeclared Nuclear State"

Israel is identified as an "undeclared nuclear state". It produces and deploys nuclear warheads directed against military and civilian targets in the Middle East including Tehran.

Iran

There has been much hype, supported by scanty evidence, that Iran might at some future date become a nuclear weapons state. And, therefore, a pre-emptive defensive nuclear attack on Iran to annihilate its non-existent nuclear weapons program should be seriously contemplated "to make the World a safer place". The mainstream media abounds with makeshift opinion on the Iran nuclear threat.

But what about the five European "undeclared nuclear states" including Belgium, Germany, Turkey, the Netherlands and Italy. Do they constitute a threat?

Belgium, Germany, The Netherlands, Italy and Turkey: "Undeclared Nuclear Weapons States"

While Iran's nuclear weapons capabilities are unconfirmed, the nuclear weapons capabilities of these five countries including delivery procedures are formally acknowledged.

The US has supplied some 480 B61 thermonuclear bombs to five so-called "non-nuclear states", including Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Turkey. Casually disregarded by the Vienna based UN Nuclear Watchdog (IAEA), the US has actively contributed to the proliferation of nuclear weapons in Western Europe.

As part of this European stockpiling, Turkey, which is a partner of the US-led coalition against Iran along with Israel, possesses some 90 thermonuclear B61 bunker buster bombs at the Incirlik nuclear air base. (National Resources Defense Council, Nuclear Weapons in Europe , February 2005)

By the recognised definition, these five countries are "undeclared nuclear weapons states".

The stockpiling and deployment of tactical B61 in these five "non-nuclear states" are intended for targets in the Middle East. Moreover, in accordance with "NATO strike plans", these thermonuclear B61 bunker buster bombs (stockpiled by the "non-nuclear States") could be launched "against targets in Russia or countries in the Middle East such as Syria and Iran" ( quoted in National Resources Defense Council, Nuclear Weapons in Europe , February 2005)

Does this mean that Iran or Russia, which are potential targets of a nuclear attack originating from one or other of these five so-called non-nuclear states should contemplate defensive preemptive nuclear attacks against Germany, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands and Turkey? The answer is no, by any stretch of the imagination.

While these "undeclared nuclear states" casually accuse Tehran of developing nuclear weapons, without documentary evidence, they themselves have capabilities of delivering nuclear warheads, which are targeted at Iran. To say that this is a clear case of "double standards" by the IAEA and the "international community" is a understatement.

Click to See Details and Map of Nuclear Facilities located in 5 European "Non-Nuclear States"

The stockpiled weapons are B61 thermonuclear bombs. All the weapons are gravity bombs of the B61-3, -4, and -10 types.2 .

Those estimates were based on private and public statements by a number of government sources and assumptions about the weapon storage capacity at each base

.(National Resources Defense Council, Nuclear Weapons in Europe , February 2005)

Germany: Nuclear Weapons Producer

Among the five "undeclared nuclear states", "Germany remains the most heavily nuclearized country with three nuclear bases (two of which are fully operational) and may store as many as 150 [B61 bunker buster ] bombs" (Ibid). In accordance with "NATO strike plans" (mentioned above) these tactical nuclear weapons are also targeted at the Middle East.

While Germany is not categorized officially as a nuclear power, it produces nuclear warheads for the French Navy. It stockpiles nuclear warheads (made in America) and it has the capabilities of delivering nuclear weapons. Moreover, The European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company - EADS , a Franco-German-Spanish joint venture, controlled by Deutsche Aerospace and the powerful Daimler Group is Europe's second largest military producer, supplying .France's M51 nuclear missile.

Germany imports and deploys nuclear weapons from the US. It also produces nuclear warheads which are exported to France. Yet it is classified as a non-nuclear state.

France Warns Iranian Threat May Lead To Pre-Emptive Strike
Posted on Pakalert on September 3, 2011

France’s President Nicolas Sarkozy warned on Wednesday that Iran’s alleged attempts to build long-range missiles and nuclear weapons could lead unnamed countries to launch a pre-emptive attack. “Its military nuclear and ballistic ambitions constitute a growing threat that may lead to a preventive attack against Iranian sites that would provoke a major crisis that France wants to avoid at all costs,” he said.
Sarkozy did not say which country might launch such a strike, but it has been reported that Israel — perhaps with US support — has considered bombing Iranian nuclear sites if it believes Tehran is close to building a weapon. The French leader placed the blame for the crisis on Iran, which insists it has no intention of building a nuclear weapon, and is merely enriching nuclear fuel for medicinal research and a domestic atomic energy program.
images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTT-ZUa2RGnWBbLhWcHVcq2fViLHzcdPCZayp0TDSRGpRP4a_Pz" rel="prettyPhoto[gallery2]">
”Iran refuses to negotiate seriously,” he told an annual meeting of French diplomats. “Iran is carrying out new provocations in response to the challenge from the international community for it to provide a credible response.” Sarkozy said France would work with its allies to build support for tougher international sanctions against Tehran’s Islamist regime, in a bid to force it to back down over its enrichment program.
Tehran currently does its uranium enrichment, the most sensitive part of its program, at the Natanz facility in central Iran, with plans to divert the 20-percent purification process to a new site near the holy city of Qom. The UN Security Council has repeatedly ordered Tehran to halt all uranium enrichment until its agency the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is satisfied by of the peaceful nature of its nuclear activities.
But, despite being targeted by four sets of UN Security Council sanctions over its refusal to suspend enrichment, Iran remains adamant that it will push ahead and denies Western claims that it seeks to build a nuclear bomb. This week Iran upped the ante once again, announcing that it had abandoned talks with the international community to negotiate a nuclear fuel swap that would see it forego its own enrichment in return for civilian-level fuel. –Breitbart

Regime change in Tehran would be welcome - Decade on, 'Iran is real enemy'

by Philip Webster and Richard Beeston, The Times, 9 September 2011

Tony Blair backs regime change in Iran and Syria and warns the West of a long and hard struggle to defeat terrorism and the flawed ideology that supports it.

The former [British] Prime Minister, in an interview with The Times to mark the tenth anniversary of 9/11, [...] suggests that the West must be ready to use force against Iran if it pursues its nuclear ambitions.

“Regime change in Tehran would immediately make me significantly more optimistic about the whole of the region [...] If Iran were to acquire nuclear weapons capability it would destabilise the region very, very badly. They continue to support groups that are engaged with terrorism and the forces of reaction. In Iraq one of the main problems has been the continued intervention of Iran and likewise in Afghanistan.”

from the archives:

“I believe discussion about the Iraq war has clouded the debate about promoting democracy around the world. I understand the doubts about Iraq and Afghanistan, and the deep concerns at the mistakes made. But my plea is that we do not let divisions over those conflicts obscure our national interest, never mind our moral impulse, in supporting movements for democracy […]

In the 1990’s […] the left seemed conflicted between the desirability of the goal and its qualms about the use of military means. In fact, the goal of spreading democracy should be a great progressive project; the means need to combine soft and hard power.”

Iran named Al-Qaeda's ally: 'Drum beat for US attack'

There will be no warm welcome for Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in New York when he visits for the UN General Assembly. A massive billboard in Times Square accuses Iran of allying with al-Qaeda. The huge poster was put up by the "United Against Nuclear Iran" group, which opposes Tehran's nuclear plans. It also wants hotels to refuse to accomodate Ahmadinejad. But Ivan Eland of the Independent Institute think-thank told RT that attacking Iran risks increasing its desire for nuclear weapons.

To attack Iran because it might have a nuclear weapons programme, although we can't be sure of that, would be as stupid as attacking Iraq was because it was falsely alleged to have weapons of mass destruction.

We should remember that if it is legitimate to attack countries because they have nuclear weapons programmes the following countries ought to be attacked: France, Britain, China, Russia, USA, India, Pakistan and Israel. (South Africa and Ukraine have wisely abolished theirs)

As for Al Quaeda, former foreign secretary Robin Cook said it was a database of CIA assets in Afghanistan during the Soviet occupation of that country, while former Metropolitan Police Chief, Ian Blair, said it was not so much an organisation as a way of working. Now it seems acceptable to imply it is everywhere. Thierry Meyssan is currently calling the rebel coalition in Libya "Al Qaeda".

Has the CIA now created a myth which even long-standing 9/11 sceptics accept?

Iran hosts 5th General Assembly of the Ahlul-Bayt World Assembly

Saman Kojouri, Press TV, Tehran

600 foreign dignitaries from 120 world countries and more than 400 Iranian personalities are attending the four-day conference.
In view of the global developments and the wave of Islamic awakening as well as movements, which are taking place in the region inspired from the Ahlul Bayt school of thought and the Islamic Revolution, the first commission of the general assembly has focused on the issue of Islamic awakening.
In an opening speech, President Ahmadinejad said the main cause of the discord among all human beings has stemmed from evil thoughts.
The United States used the nine-eleven attacks as a pretext to wage wars against Muslim lands of Afghanistan and Iraq. Over one-million people have been killed and many more injured in the two wars. Nations can live together peacefully, but corrupt rulers disrupt that when they come to power.
Participants unanimously believe that unity is the main key to the success of Muslims in all fields and described Ahlul Bayt or the household of Prophet Muhammad as the best point of commonality among Muslims.
The Ahlul Bayt world assembly is an international non-government organization, the permanent secretariat of which is located in Iran.

Bunker Busted: Israel planning Iran nuke plant strike?

As the U.S. continues to stand by Israel, Washington's now coming under fire for new revelations of its dealings with the country. It's claimed the White House sold dozens of bunker-buster bombs to Tel Aviv - weapons best suited for destroying underground nuclear facilities in Iran. A deal to buy the bombs during the Bush administration in 2005 foundered over concerns Israel could pass the technology on to China. But claims have now emerged that the weapons were secretly released shortly after Obama took office in 2009. Observers fear the move could lead to a new war.

In other words, Iran thinks that what’s good for the goose is good for the colossal, militaristic gander.
"Like the arrogant powers that are present near our marine borders, we will also have a powerful presence close to American marine borders," reads a statement from Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyar to the official Islamic Republic News Agency this week. The IRNA adds that Sayyar, the commander of the entire Navy of Iran, will call for “the help of our sailors who follow the concept of the supreme jurisprudence” to send a flotilla towards the Atlantic coast of the United States.
On the same day as Sayyar’s statement, Iran Defense Minister Gen. Ahmad Vahidi also revealed to the media that the navy has another tactic under its sleeve: the country is beginning production of cruise missiles made for sea-based targets that could even counter massive warships, reports The Associated Press. The AP says that Vahidi’s comments suggest that the weaponry could be used to combat American ships anchored in the Persian Gulf, but with a fleet setting sail towards the US, could a new cold war embark between the two nations?
The Department of Defense doesn’t think it’s a big deal.
Pentagon Spokesman Capt. John Kirby released a statement in response to Iran’s plans and says, "We've been pushing freedom of the seas for years and the Iranian navy can go wherever it wants.” Given those sentiments, it seems likely that the United States will continue to sail through the Persian Gulf, even if Iran is ready to respond to that presence.
For those keeping track, this marks at least the second time in a week that Iran has called out America as an “arrogant power.” Those were the words that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad used last week when he called out the US for the military’s ongoing appearance in seemingly all ends of the globe.
"Do these arrogant powers really have the competence and ability to run or govern the world? Is it acceptable that they call themselves the sole defender of freedom, democracy, and human rights, while they militarily attack and occupy other countries?" Ahmadinejad said to the United Nations’ General Assembly last week.
In the meantime, it looks as if Iran will send ships elsewhere, as well. State-run Press TV suggests that the country will also be deploying a new fleet into the Gulf of Arden to protect the nation’s ships from pirate attacks.

Oh dear. Already got UK support. This stinks

Quote:
America's Justice Department has accused factions of the Iranian government of plotting to kill the Saudi ambassador to the US.

Two men have been charged in New York with conspiracy to murder Adel al-Jubeir as part of a major terror attack on US soil.

US authorities named them as Manssor Arbabsiar, 56, who has an Iranian and US passport, and Gholam Shakuri, an Iran-based member of Iran's Quds Force.

They claimed the plot had been "directed by elements of the Iranian government".

Attorney General Eric Holder said: "The criminal complaint... exposes a deadly plot directed by factions of the Iranian government to assassinate a foreign ambassador on US soil with explosives."

He continued: "The complaint alleges that this conspiracy was conceived, was sponsored and directed from Iran and constitutes a flagrant violation of US and international law.

"In addition to holding the individual conspirators accountable for their alleged role in this plot the United States is committed to holding Iran accountable for its actions."

Officials said the plot called for the assassination as part of a wider bomb attack.

FBI Director Robert Mueller says many lives could have been lost.

This would have been just "the opening act" of an attack on US soil, it was claimed.

"We will not let other countries use our soil as their battleground," Preet Bharara, the US attorney in Manhattan, told a news conference in Washington.

Mr Holder said the US government would be taking action against the Iranian government, although what measures that will involve is still unknown.

The Treasury Department has already imposed economic penalties against four people linked to the alleged plot.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said: "This really, in the minds of many diplomats and government officials, crosses a line that Iran needs to be held to account for.

"The idea that they would attempt to go to a Mexican drug cartel to solicit murder-for-hire to kill the Saudi ambassador, nobody could make that up, right?"

Mrs Clinton said the alleged plot could lead to even greater isolation of Iran as the world reacts to the claims.

Both she and President Barack Obama, who was first briefed on the plot in June, are ringing round world leaders to discuss the developments and counter Iranian denials.

"We want to reassure our friends that the complaints against Iran are well-founded," she said.

As she spoke, Alizreza Miryusefi, the press attache at Iran's mission to the United Nations, said the accusations were "totally baseless".

Earlier, IRNA, Iran's official news agency, had claimed the allegations were "America's new propaganda scenario".

The case will further sour relations between the Islamic republic and Washington, which has accused Tehran of backing terrorism and pursuing nuclear arms.

Sky's US correspondent Dominic Waghorn said Arbabsiar is alleged to have approached an American official working undercover in Mexico, posing as a member of a drugs cartel.

The undercover official agreed to help with the assassination attempt, using explosives to blow up the ambassador in a restaurant, in return for $1.5m.

The Iranians allegedly wired £100,000 to an account as part-payment before the authorities stepped in.

Arbabsiar allegedly confessed and implicated senior members of the Iranian government after he was arrested at JFK airport. Shakuri is still at large.

US officials said there had also been initial discussions about other alleged plots, including attacking the Saudi and Israeli embassies in Washington.

Saudi Arabia's embassy in Washington described the alleged plot as a "despicable violation" of international conventions.

The embassy also expressed its appreciation to the US government for "preventing a criminal act from taking place".

The men are charged with one count of conspiracy to murder a foreign official, two counts of foreign travel and use of interstate and foreign commerce facilities in the commission of murder for hire and one count each of conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction and conspiracy to commit an act of terrorism.

They face up to life in prison if convicted.

Arbabsiar appeared in a New York federal court on Tuesday and was ordered to be detained pending further hearings. His lawyer says he will plead not guilty.

Sky's foreign affairs editor Tim Marshall said sanctions against Iran in response "will not placate the hawks in America".

"Down the line, this could be used to make the case for justification [for military action]," he said.

He predicted the US will turn to the EU and demand ever tougher sanctions against Iran and greater support from its allies.

"They will call upon all their allies because this could have been and is tantamount almost to an act of war if the allegations are true," he said.

Britain has pledged its backing for US reprisals, saying Tehran should be "held accountable".

A Downing Street spokesman said: "Indications that this plot was directed by elements of the Iranian regime are shocking.

"Directing an attack against another country is a flagrant violation of international law which calls for the strongest condemnation.

"The United Kingdom is in close touch with the US authorities on this case. We will support measures to hold Iran accountable for its actions."

Truely terrifying. The next step on taking people down the road to another war. I wonder what is the real background of these 2 potential assassins? I'd have a crazy punt that in their backgrounds you'd find a US intelliegnce department.

Isn't it also funny how the target was a Saudi. Rope your friendly Arab into the fray and it makes it more legitimate. The next step will be attacks on US nationals. Then another big show and then war.

Might buy some defense sector shares tomorrow.

KAHLILI: Iran already has nuclear weapons - Western intelligence has known it for years
By Reza Kahlili - The Washington Times - Thursday, October 27, 2011
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/oct/27/iran-already-has-nucle ar-weapons/
The pressure the United States and the West is bringing to bear on Iran to keep it from acquiring nuclear weapons is all for naught. Not only does the Islamic Republic already have nuclear weapons from the old Soviet Union, but it has enough enriched uranium for more. What’s worse, it has a delivery system.
The West for nearly a decade has worried about Iran’s uranium enhancement, believing Iran is working on a nuclear bomb, though the government maintains its uranium is only for peaceful purposes.
When Iran began its nuclear program in the mid-1980s, I was working as a spy for the CIA within the Revolutionary Guards. The Guards‘ intelligence at that time had learned of Saddam Hussein’s attempt to buy a nuclear bomb for Iraq. Guard commanders concluded that they needed a nuclear bomb because if Saddam were to get his own, he would use it against Iran. At that time, the two countries were at war.
Mohsen Rezaei, then-chief commander of the Guards, received permission from the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini to start a covert program to obtain nuclear weapons, so the Guards contacted Pakistani generals and Abdul Qadeer Khan, the Pakistani nuclear scientist.
Commander Ali Shamkhani traveled to Pakistan, offering billions of dollars for a bomb, but ended up with a blueprint and centrifuges instead. The first centrifuge was transferred to Iran on Khomeini’s personal plane.
In a second but parallel attempt to amass nuclear weapons, Iran turned to the former Soviet republics. When the Soviet Union dissolved in 1990, Iran coveted thousands of tactical nuclear warheads that had been dispersed in the former republics.
In the early 1990s, the CIA asked me to find an Iranian scientist who would testify that Iran had the bomb. The CIA had learned that Iranian intelligence agents were visiting nuclear installations throughout the former Soviet Union, with particular interest in Kazakhstan.
Kazakhstan, which had a significant portion of the Soviet arsenal and is predominately Muslim, was courted by Muslim Iran with offers of hundreds of millions of dollars for the bomb. Reports soon surfaced that three nuclear warheads were missing. This was corroborated by Russian Gen. Victor Samoilov, who handled the disarmament issues for the general staff. He admitted that the three were missing from Kazakhstan.
Meanwhile, Paul Muenstermann, then vice president of the German Federal Intelligence Service, said Iran had received two of the three nuclear warheads and medium-range nuclear delivery systems from Kazakhstan. It also was reported that Iran had purchased four 152 mm nuclear shells from the former Soviet Union, which were reportedly stolen and sold by former Red Army officers.
To make matters worse, several years later, Russian officials stated that when comparing documents in transferring nuclear weapons from Ukraine to Russia, there was a discrepancy of 250 nuclear weapons.
Last week, Mathew Nasuti, a former U.S. Air Force captain who was at one point hired by the State Department as an adviser to one of its provincial reconstruction teams in Iraq, said that in March 2008, during a briefing on Iran at the State Department, the department’s Middle East expert told the group that it was “common knowledge” that Iran had acquired tactical nuclear weapons from one or more of the former Soviet republics.
Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer, an experienced intelligence officer and recipient of a Bronze Star, told me that his sources say Iran has two workable nuclear warheads.
[Are they two of the three that David Cameron is alleged to have lost? ed. http://petereyrepatch.blogspot.com/2010/03/us-and-uk-lost-three-nuclea r-weapons.html]
An editorial in Kayhan, the Iranian newspaper directly under the supervision of the Office of the Supreme Leader, last year warned that if Iran were attacked, there would be nuclear blasts in American cities.
Despite knowing that Iranian leaders were seeking nuclear weapons, Western leaders chose to negotiate and appease with the hope of reaching a solution with Iran. Nearly three years into President Obama’s administration, we must acknowledge that the policies of first a carrot of good will and then a stick of sanctions have neither stopped the Iranians with their nuclear program nor have they deterred their aggressive posture. The Iranian leaders today, despite four sets of United Nations sanctions, continue with their missile and nuclear enrichment program, and they have enough enriched uranium for six nuclear bombs, according to the latest International Atomic Energy Agency report.
The Revolutionary Guards now have more than 1,000 ballistic missiles, many pointed at U.S. military bases in the Middle East and Europe. The Guards also have made great strides in their intercontinental missile delivery system under the guise of their space program. As I revealed earlier, nuclear weapons-capable warheads have been delivered to the Guards, and Iran’s supreme leader has ordered the Guards to arm their missiles with nuclear payloads. Iran’s navy also has armed its vessels with long-range surface-to-surface missiles and soon will expand its mission into the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.
“History suggests that we may already be too late to stop Iran’s nuclear bomb. Why do we suppose Iran cannot accomplish in 20 years of trying - with access to vast amounts of unclassified data on nuclear-weapons design and equipped with 21st-century technology - what the U.S. accomplished in three years during the 1940s with the Manhattan Project?” asks nuclear weapons expert Peter Vincent Pry, who served in the CIA and on the EMP Commission, and is now president of EMPact America.
Mr. Pry concludes that Iran only needs a single nuclear weapon to destroy the United States. A nuclear EMP (electromagnetic pulse) attack could collapse the national electric grid and other critical infrastructures that sustain the lives of 310 million Americans.
Are we ready to finally realize what the goals and the ideology of the jihadists in Tehran are and take appropriate action against them? The Iranian people themselves, who oppose the dictatorial mullahs, for years have asked us to do so. Thousands of them have lost their lives to show us the true nature of this regime. We must act before it’s too late.

Reza Kahlili is a pseudonym for a former CIA spy who is a fellow with EMPact America and the author of “A Time to Betray,” about his double life in Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (Threshold Editions, Simon & Schuster, 2010)

Murdoch disinfo?

Israeli prisoner swap may be prelude to attack on Iran
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/oct/28/israeli-prisoner-swap- may-be-prelude-attack-iran/
By Abraham Rabinovich - Special to The Murdoch NewsCorp owned Washington Times
Friday, October 28, 2011
JERUSALEM — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to execute a 1,000-for-1 prisoner exchange last week despite his frequently voiced opposition to such lopsided deals is seen by several Israeli military commentators as an effort to “clear the deck” before possibly undertaking an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Amir Oren, the veteran military analyst for Ha'aretz newspaper, took note of Israel’s exchanging 1,027 Palestinian convicts for army Staff Sgt. Gilad Schalit, who had been captured by Hamas in 2006. Mr. Oren wrote that the price paid by Mr. Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak “can be interpreted only in a context that goes beyond that of the Gilad Schalit deal.”
He noted that Israeli leaders in the past have shown a readiness to absorb “a small loss” in order to attain a greater success, generally involving “some sort of military adventure.”
Mr. Oren also noted that, until recently, Mr. Netanyahu had faced opposition to attacking Iran from Army Chief of Staff Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi and Mossad intelligence chief Meir Dagan. Both retired earlier this year and have been replaced by men believed to hold a different view on Iran.
Released Israeli soldier Gilad Schalit (second from right) walks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (second from left), Defense Minister Ehud Barak (left) and Israeli Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz at the Tel Nof Air base in southern Israel on Oct. 18, 2011. Looking thin, weary and dazed, Schalit returned home Tuesday from more than five years of captivity in the Gaza Strip in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners whose joyful families greeted them with massive celebrations. (Associated Press/Defense Ministry)
The Islamic republic has not been a top agenda item since the outbreak of the Arab Spring. Yet Iran’s nuclear program, which Western nations believe is geared for making an atomic bomb, has remained a key concern, despite Tehran’s denials that it is seeking to build a nuclear weapon.
According to Israeli media reports, a shift in the Israeli government’s views on Iran might have prompted Defense Secretary Leon Panetta’s Middle East visit in April: His main mission was to pass on a warning from President Obama against any unilateral attack on Iran.
At a press conference with Mr. Barak in April, Mr. Panetta stressed that any steps against Iran’s nuclear program must be taken in coordination with the international community.
This week, Jerusalem Post military correspondent Yakov Katz wrote that, with the Schalit chapter behind it, “Israel can now move forward to deal with some of the other strategic problems it faces in the region, such as Iran’s nuclear program.” Had Israel first attacked Iran, Hamas‘ patron, it would have endangered the Schalit deal, Mr. Katz said.
Writing in Yediot Achronot, Alex Fishman said that for Mr. Netanyahu, who built a political career as a warrior on terror, the Schalit deal was a very courageous step, particularly in view of an estimate by Israel’s security services that 60 percent of Palestinians who are released in such exchanges return to terror.
“He took a risk in a certain area and thereby focused all our attention on much more troubling fronts — in distant Iran and in the Arab revolutions around us,” Mr. Fishman wrote. To deal with these problems, national consensus is necessary and the freeing of Gilad Shalit went far toward achieving that.
Mr. Oren offered another insight that he says may point Mr. Netanyahu toward military action against Iran.
Although the prime minister failed to make any enduring mark on history during his previous term or so far during his present term, Mr. Netanyahu may see Iran as an opportunity to achieve his Churchillian moment, Mr. Oren wrote. “The day is not far off, Netanyahu believes, when Churchill will emerge from him.”

Quote:
The US and its allies, such as the UK and Israel, may launch a missile attack on Iranian uranium enrichment facilities in the next 12 months, media speculate.
The possible bombing campaign may start after next November’s presidential election in America, reports The Guardian, citing unnamed sources in Whitehall. It also cites sources in UK’s Ministry of Defence as saying that the top brass are penning contingency plans to help the US with attacking Iran, should Washington launch offensive.
The military action may be chosen because Iran proved to be surprisingly resilient in the face of the international sanctions and the cyber attack on its nuclear facilities, allegedly perpetrated by American and Israeli hackers, the newspaper says. The damage done by the Stuxnet worm was reportedly less severe than first expected, and Iran has managed to overcome the sabotage.
The deadline for the military action is due to Tehran’s intention to move their uranium enrichment centrifuges to the military base dug beneath a mountain near the city of Qom and other heavily-fortified secret locations. Once there, missile strikes will not be able to destroy the equipment, the newspaper was told. The likely timing of the offensive is next spring, The Guardian sources say.
At the moment the hawks are waiting next week’s report by the UN’s nuclear watchdog, the IAEA, which could be a game changer for the issue.
The newspaper says the attack will predominantly involve cruise missile attacks with limited navy engagement. Raids by commando forces may also be called for.
Meanwhile NATO Secretary General Andres Fogh Rasmussen said Thursday the alliance has no immediate plans to get involved in the dispute over the Iranian nuclear program.
Earlier this week Israeli media reported that Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet is preparing an attack on Iranian nuclear facilities. The Jewish State is reportedly arguing the case for an attack on Iran with their American allies.
Iran has been under pressure over its alleged intention to develop a nuclear weapon for years. The latest round of sanctions against Tehran was issued by the UN Security Council last year. The Islamic Republic insists that it is pursuing only civilian use of nuclear energy.
Russia believes that only diplomatic effort based on reliable evidence and respect to all parties involved can resolve the dispute.

Israel tests nuclear-capable missile

Quote:
Israel’s military has test-fired a missile which is reportedly capable of delivering a nuclear warhead to any part of the Middle East and probably as far as Europe. It comes amid speculation that Tel Aviv is planning a military strike on Iran.
The test on Wednesday was reported with little detail by Israel’s Defense Ministry.
“Israel today carried out the test-firing of a rocket propulsion system from the Palmachim base,” a ministerial statement said. “This had been long-planned by the defense establishment and was carried out as scheduled.”
The plume left by the missile went almost straight upwards and could be seen from most parts of central Israel, reports Reuters citing eyewitness accounts.
Both local and international media believe that the missile tested was the long-range ballistic missile Jericho III. The specifications of the weapon are classified, but estimates by military experts believe it to be a three-stage solid propellant missile with a payload of more than 1,000 kilograms, which is enough to carry a nuclear warhead. It may have range of more than 11,000 kilometers and could carry a payload MIRVed warheads of smaller yield.
The news comes amid a flurry of media reports in Israel, which say Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the cabinet are contemplating an attack on Iran. The reports have not been officially commented on. Some analysts believe that the government is playing a strongman card to appeal to voters after Israel’s failure to prevent Palestine’s admission to UNESCO.
Israel and its allies are calling to put pressure on Iran over its alleged intention to produce a nuclear weapon. Tehran denies the allegations. In the past Israeli air forces have attacked sites which were believe to be nuclear facilities, in Iraq in 1981 and in Syria in 2007.
The Jewish State itself has neither confirmed nor denied having a nuclear arsenal, but is widely believed to have such weapons in its possession.

MAINSTREAM MEDIA: IRAN'S ALLEGED NUCLEAR FACILITIES

IRAN ATTACK

Tehran has repeatedly failed to meet its obligations by revealing the construction of nuclear facilities.

Work to develop nuclear facilities began in the 1990s, with the Russian Federation providing experts, although the U.S. blocked the trade of equipment or construction of technology for Iran.

International attention was drawn to its developing nuclear potential in 2002 after an Iranian dissident revealed the existence of two sites that were under construction - a uranium enrichment facility in Natanz and a heavy water facility in Arak.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) sought access to these facilities, but it wasn't until 2003 that Iran agreed to cooperate with it and suspend enrichment activities. The investigation revealed Iran had failed to meet several obligations, including divulging the importation of uranium from China.

The following year, work began on the construction of a heavy water reactor, but again Iran announced a suspension of uranium enrichment under the terms of the Paris Agreement.

Security implications: The UN has passed seven resolutions aimed at curbing Iran's nuclear aspirations, but most of them have been repeatedly flouted.

After Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's election as president in August 2005, Iran removed the seals on its enrichment equipment and effectively rejected the Paris Agreement.

President Ahmadinejad announced that Iran had successfully enriched uranium in a televised address in 2006, where he announced the country had joined those with nuclear technology.

Then U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice had urged the UN Security Council to consider 'strong steps' to force Tehran to shelve its nuclear ambitions
Subsequently the UN Security Council has passed seven resolutions on Iran insisting it ends its enrichment activities.

These have included freezing the assets of people and organisations linked to its nuclear and missile programmes.

Iran revealed it was building a second enrichment facility in September 2009, 20 miles north of Qom.

Iran began fueling its Bushehr I reactor on August 21, 2010, apparently to help create nuclear-generated electricity.

But Tehran has also accused intelligence services from the U.S., Britain, Germany and Israel of sabotaging its nuclear capabilities.

Over the last two years, three Iranian scientists have been killed and one wounded in the capital.

In January 2010, Masoul Ali Mohammadi - a particle physicist - was killed by a remote-control bomb as he left for work.

In November 2010, Majid Shahriar - a nuclear physicist - was killed when a bomb was stuck to the side of his car by a man on a motorbike.

And in July, physicist Darioush Rezaie was shot dead.

A computer worm also infected systems at the Natanz enrichment plant in 2010, causing centrifuges to crash and suspended work.

He has blamed Israel for disruptions to the nuclear programme, including the mysterious assassinations of a string of Iranian nuclear scientists and a computer virus that wiped out some nuclear centrifuges.

But a report by the UN's nuclear watchdog due to be published next week will provide fresh evidence of Iran's activity, bringing the Middle East a step closer to another devastating conflict.

It is the latest of a series of quarterly bulletins on Iran's arms programme, but will contain an unprecedented level of detail on research and experiments carried out in recent years.

It comes as a draft report revealed China is continuing to provide advanced missiles and other conventional arms to Iran, in violation of UN sanctions against the regime.

The report, from the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission, revealed China sold $312million of arms to Iran, second only to Russia.

It also noted that after Russia began cutting back arms transfers to Iran in 2008, China became the largest arms supplier to the Iranian military.

Most of the weapons transfers involved sales of Chinese anti-ship cruise missiles, including C-802 missiles that China promised the U.S. in 1997 would not be exported to Iran.

The report says: 'Because of the relatively short range of these missiles, China's provision of them to Iran does not violate the Iran, North Korea and Syria Non-proliferation Act of 2006, which seeks to prevent the transfer of only those missiles that can carry a 500kg warhead more than 300km.

'It is possible, however, that these transactions violate the Iran Freedom Support Act, or the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability and Divestment Act of 2010, which both use the ambiguous term "advanced conventional weapons."'

Israeli Army gets order to attack Gaza

The Israeli regime has given a green light to its military to prepare for a ground offensive against the Gaza Strip, a top Israeli military official says.

The unnamed official stated that Tel Aviv's decision authorizes the military to attack the occupied territory, AP reported on Wednesday.

The Israeli regime claims the move is aimed at halting rocket fire from the besieged coastal strip.

The Israeli military would be allowed to take all necessary steps against the Gaza Strip by the new order.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday warned that Tel Aviv would operate “vigorously and resolutely” against those that would threaten its security.

“A security philosophy cannot rely on defense alone,” Netanyahu said. “It must also include offensive capabilities, the very foundation of deterrence.”

Israeli warplanes have launched a series of strikes in Gaza since Saturday. At least 11 Palestinians have been killed in the attacks.

Israel attack on Iran military suicide

By Ismail Salami

There is a strong speculation that Israel is bound to mount an attack on Iranian nuclear sites, a threat which the Zionist regime has frequently repeated and an idea which, if translated into action, will bring about apocalyptic consequences for the Zionist entity.

Reportedly, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has recently sought to drum up cabinet support for a military strike against the nuclear sites of the Islamic Republic of Iran. In joint efforts with the defense minister Ehud Barak, Netanyahu has succeeded in wringing support for such a reckless act from the skeptics who were already opposed to launching an attack on Iran. Among those he managed to convince was Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman.

There are still those in the Israeli cabinet who are against such a move including Interior Minister Eli Yishai of the ultra-Orthodox Shas party, Intelligence Minister Dan Meridor, Strategic Affairs Minister and Netanyahu confidant Moshe Yaalon, Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz, army chief Benny Gantz, the head of Israel's intelligence agency Tamir Pardo, the chief of military intelligence Aviv Kochavi and the head of Israel's domestic intelligence agency Yoram Cohen.

However, the support voiced by Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman is considered an ace in the hole for Netanyahu who also enjoys the full-throated support of Washington.

In a show of military prowess and obvious brinkmanship, Israel test-fired a nuke capable missile on Wednesday which cannot be taken as a coincidence considering the threat made by Netanyahu.

"Israel today carried out the test-firing of a rocket propulsion system from the Palmachim base," a Defense Ministry statement said. "This had been long planned by the Defense establishment and was carried out as scheduled."

Echoing his old familiar comments about Iran, Netanyahu said in a parliamentary address on Monday, "A nuclear Iran will pose a serious threat to the Middle East and the entire world, and it of course poses a direct and heavy threat to us."

Also on Wednesday, Israeli Foreign Minister accused Iran of being “the largest, most dangerous threat to the current world order,” adding that Israel expects the international community to “step up efforts to act against it.”

Moshe Yaalon, Israel's strategic affairs minister, told Army Radio on Tuesday, "The military option (against Iran) is not an empty threat, but Israel should not leap to lead it. The whole thing should be lead by the United States, and as a last resort."

There seems to be a united front against Iran in the Israeli cabinet but as far as a military strike is concerned, there is a difference of opinion as to the sanity of such an act and the looming consequences it may incur.

Be it as it may, one of the main factors which render such an act implausible is that Israel is well aware of Iran's military competence and self-sufficiency.

From a military point of view, Iran is known as the best in the region and one of the best in the world in terms of missile industry.

The successful production of the short-, medium- and long-range missiles Shahab (Meteor) and Sejjil (Baked Clay), Saqeb (falling stone) and Sayyad (Hunter), Fateh (Conqueror) and Zelzal (Temblor), Misaq (Covenant) and Ra'ad (Thunder), Toufan (Storm) and Safar (Journey) bears testimony to this claim. The country has so far succeeded in producing more than 50 types of high-tech missiles as part of its deterrent strategy for enhancing military might as it has always been exposed to threats by the Zionist regime and Washington.

The recent Iranian missile Qader (powerful), a magnum achievement, is a sea-launched cruise missile which has a highly destructive power and can eliminate frigates, warships as well as any coastal targets. With a range of over 200 kilometers, the missile can evade any highly advanced radar systems.

Shahab (meteor) III, one of the great missile achievements of the country, is a medium-range ballistic missile designed to hit targets within the range of up to 2000 kilometers. Generally considered as a nightmare for Israel, the missile was test-fired on July 8. 2008 and has been upgraded since then to an impeccable standard.

A senior IRGC commander Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh has already stated that Iran has the know-how to build missiles with over 2,000 kilometers but since the US and Israeli targets are within the reach of the current missiles, the country does not see any point in doing so.

“Iran's missiles have a range of up to 2,000 kilometers and have been designed for US and the Zionist regime (Israel)'s bases in the region,” he added.

According to the Iranian commander, as there is a distance of 1,200 kilometers between Iran and Israel, Iran is already capable of targeting the Zionist regime with the current missiles. Needless to say, Sejjil (Baked Clay) and Shahab missiles rank among the missiles capable of targeting objects within a range of 2,000 kilometers.

With over 50 types of state-of-the-art missiles at its disposal, Iran is readily capable of delivering a death blow to any aggressor who ventures to violate its soil. However, Iran has frequently said its military might poses no threat to other countries and that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.

As the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has said the “main objective of producing weapons in Iran is defending the country against bullying enemies” while in the West, “the main reason for weapons production is increasing the wealth of the weapons cartels.”

Regardless of Iran's military might in countering any audacious aggression, Israel is standing on its last legs as poverty and social strife are rampant in the country and the people have already begun pressing their hands on Tel Aviv's throat.

It matters little on what grounds the idea of attacking Iran was articulated in the minds of the Israelis or who was the initial originator of this imbecilic notion.

What is important is that an Israeli attack will not only disturb the political equilibrium in the Middle East but it will inflict losses of inconceivable proportions upon the Zionist entity as well.

It would not be an exaggeration to state that a military strike by Israel on Iran is tantamount to a final nail in the coffin of Zionism.

Iran to expose data on US terror plots

LAST UPDATE

Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Saeed Jalili
Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Saeed Jalili will release a number of documents detailing US involvement in acts of terror against the Islamic Republic.

Jalili is reportedly set to make the revelations on US terror moves against Iran on Friday, during a ceremony marking the takeover anniversary of the US embassy in Tehran by Iranian students in 1979.

The revelations will come a day after the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei described the US as the great terrorist in the world.

We possess one hundred pieces of irrefutable evidence that reveal the US role in directing terrorists for conducting acts of terror in Iran and the region, said Ayatollah Khamenei in an address to thousands of Iranian students on Wednesday.

Ayatollah Khamenei added that Iran will bring shame to the US, advocates of terrorism and the so-called defenders of human rights through the publication of the evidence.

In November 1979, less than a year after the victory of the Islamic Revolution that toppled a US-backed monarchy, Iranian university students calling themselves "students following the line of [the late] Imam [Khomeini]" seized the US embassy in Tehran, which they referred to as 'the den of spies.'

The students justified the takeover by insisting that the compound had become a center of espionage that engaged in planning to overthrow the nascent Islamic Republic establishment in Iran.

The students occupying the embassy later published documents proving that the compound was indeed engaged in schemes and measures to overthrow Iran's Islamic system.

"But poetry resists academic pretensions, just as the mystery of religious faith evaporates on contact with dogma. Here, more than in the mosques of Esfahan or Mashhad, it is still possible to experience the occasional "lifting of the veil": - as long as one enters without guides and without preconceptions."

"In the middle of the courtyard is a series of steps descending into a deep qanat whose waters are considered holy. When I visited the complex recently, there was no-one there. I descended alone to wash my hands and face. Then I took off my sandals and entered the tiny mosque behind it. As I stood there, light fell onto my hands from somewhere far above my head, and for a moment the presence of something supremely precious and powerfully benign beamed down upon me."

"The Sufi brotherhood that built this remarkable building found wisdom in all the religions; and all were respected. For hundreds of years they lived shoulder to shoulder with the Zoroastrians, whose fire temple stood just metres away from them. The little town of Natanz is an oasis for the spirit. It is a pity that today it is virtually ignored by tourists, and known only to the world for its controversial nuclear power facility, 30 miles away in the emptiness of the Kavir desert."

Errr

This is psychopthic madness.

When our evil press go round saying we should attack Iran then they have every reason to prepare nuclear weapons.

Wondering if and when China might step in. Have read about a yet unfulfilled biblical prophecy of a million strong army (on horseback?) coming from the east towards Israel.

You can only expect iran would have no option other than to retaliate in defense of itself

US and Israel preparing for a war with Iran?

According to some reports the US, UK and Israel are gearing up for a potential war with Iran. Allegedly, a UN nuclear watchdog claims they have evidence of Iran growing their nuclear enrichment program. Earlier this year we reported for the first time in history Iran was able to obtain nuclear power for energy purposes. But are America and the UK looking for excuses to go to war with Iran? Jamal Abdi, policy director at The National Iranian American Council, gives us his take on the matter.
