Quote: | Iran agents 'planned US terror attacks'
Breaking news
The US says it has broken up a major terror plot in which agents linked to Iran sought to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to Washington.
Two men originally from Iran - one a naturalised US citizen - have been charged with counts of conspiracy, Attorney General Eric Holder said.
The plot was "conceived" in Iran by the Quds force, part of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps, he added.
The state department has listed Iran as a "state sponsor" of terror since 1984.
The two men allegedly linked to the plot were named as Manssor Arbabsiar, a 56-year-old naturalised US citizen with dual Iranian and US passports, and Gholam Shakuri, based in Iran and said to be a member of Iran's Quds Force.
Mr Arbabsiar was arrested in September, Mr Holder said, but Mr Shakuri remains in Iran.
They have been charged with a series of conspiracy charges over alleged plans to kill the Saudi ambassador.
Mr Arbabsiar, who is due to appear in court in New York on Tuesday, faces a potential life prison sentence if convicted on all charges, the Department of Justice said. |

These snakes are getting ready to strike.
I'd love to know the proportion of radio 4 listeners who heard that 'news' announcement and believe a word of it.
The secret government are becoming psychotic victims of their own crazed power trips.
‘What is Iran's benefit from a crime like this?’
http://rt.com/news/us-plot-assassinate-iran-617/
Something is amiss with Washington’s allegations, claims antiwar activist Brian Becker.
“I think that the US has climbed the escalation ladder, and whenever the escalation ladder is climbed, you ratchet up an attack against the other side; the other side then has to reciprocate,” he told RT. “I think we really need to question what is going on here. Is it really in the interest of Iran to carry out the assassination of this Saudi Arabian or Israeli ambassador in the heart of Washington at a time when the Iranian government knows the US is trying to find a pretext to escalate tensions with Iran?”
Becker declared that Iran would not benefit from a crime like this, as it would have brought Tehran closer to war with the largest military power in the world.
“The only beneficiaries are the Israeli regime and the United States government, which wants to ratchet up tensions against Iran,” concluded Becker.
Why the Elites Are in Trouble
By Chris Hedges - The elites believe, and seek to make us believe, that globalization and unfettered capitalism are natural law, some kind of permanent and eternal dynamic that can never be altered. What the elites fail to realize is that rebellion will not stop until the corporate state is extinguished.

Even the Los Angles Times doesn't really believe it...
Quote: | U.S. sees alleged assassination plot as radical shift for Iran
FBI says it has uncovered a plan by Iranian operatives linked to senior leaders to assassinate the Saudi ambassador in Washington.
October 11, 2011, 8:46 p.m.
Reporting from Washington—
American officials charged that an alleged plot by Iran to blow up the Saudi ambassador as he dined in Washington marks a radical shift by Tehran toward direct confrontation with the United States.
....
The high-profile nature of the administration's statements, featuring the secretary of State, attorney general and director of the FBI, appeared to reflect the White House's determination to hold Iran responsible for the incident.
....
Iran called the allegations a "fabrication."
...
According to the criminal complaint unsealed Tuesday, members of Iran's Quds Force, an elite Revolutionary Guard unit, tried to hire what they thought was a Mexican drug cartel to kill the Saudi envoy. The complaint said that Manssor Arbabsiar, an Iranian American living in Texas, flew to Mexico and, at the behest of the Quds Force, agreed to pay a man he believed to be a cartel operative $1.5 million to kill the ambassador. Over time, the plot focused on bombing an unspecified restaurant the ambassador frequented, the complaint said.
The "cartel member" turned out to be a confidential informant for the Drug Enforcement Administration. He reported the solicitation to U.S. law enforcement and recorded his conversations with Arbabsiar, officials said.
Arbabsiar gave the man a down payment of about $100,000 and told him the plot should go ahead even if 100 or more bystanders would die in the explosion, the complaint said. "They want that guy done, if the 100 go with him," he allegedly said.
The case "reads like the pages of a Hollywood script," FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III told reporters in announcing the arrest along with Atty. Gen. Eric H. Holder Jr., but "the impact would have been very real and many lives would have been lost."
At Arbabsiar's arraignment in New York on Tuesday, his lawyer said he would plead not guilty.
The fact that the man the Iranians allegedly contacted was an informant allowed U.S. officials to monitor the conversations from the outset in May, officials said.
"Was it a lucky break? Yes," said a U.S. law enforcement official, "but everybody jumped on it."
The plotters also discussed an attack against the Israeli Embassy in Washington, Sen. Richard J. Durbin (D-Ill.) said in a Senate speech. An Israeli Embassy spokesman said he could not confirm that.
U.S. officials previously have accused the Quds Force of sponsoring terrorist attacks abroad, including assassinations, and of roadside bomb attacks on U.S. troops in Iraq. But officials expressed shock and anger at the allegation that Iranian operatives would plan to kill a diplomat on U.S. soil.
Seth Jones, an expert on Iran with the Rand Corp., said if the Quds Force was plotting attacks inside the United States, it would amount to "a notable change in behavior." It would be very hard to believe that senior Iranian officials condoned such an operation, he said.
At the news conference announcing the case, Holder noted that the criminal complaint did not allege involvement by top officials of the Iranian government. Separately, U.S. intelligence officials would not say whether evidence directly linked senior members of the Iranian government to the conspiracy.
Other U.S. officials, however, went further.
ep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.), chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said the evidence suggested the purported plot was approved "at the highest levels of the Iranian government" in part because the Quds Force is believed to report directly to Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The criminal complaint lays out a series of recorded phone conversations from May to October between the two men charged in the case, Arbabsiar and Gholam Shakuri, alleged to be an Iran-based member of the Quds Force. Arbabsiar was arrested Sept. 29 and confessed after being read his Miranda rights, the FBI said. Shakuri presumably remains in Iran.
While they interrogated him, U.S. officials showed Arbabsiar an array of seven photos, two of which were of senior members of the Quds Force, the complaint said. Arbabsiar identified one of the known Quds Force officials as a senior commander he met with in Iran who was coordinating the alleged plot.
Expressing outrage, lawmakers urged the Obama administration to confront Iran. Reps. Peter T. King (R-N.Y.) and Michael McCaul (R-Texas) called the alleged plot "an act of war." But no one was calling for a military strike, and the U.S. has been leveling economic sanctions against Iran for years, with no measurable change in behavior.
Rogers said he hoped the revelations put pressure on the Europeans, the Chinese and the Russians to go along with tougher U.S. economic sanctions against Iran.
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, in an appearance at the State Department, said, "We will be consulting with our friends and partners around the world about how we can send a very strong message that this kind of action, which violates international norms, must be ended."

Iran summons Swiss envoy
http://www.presstv.ir/detail/204155.html
Iran's Foreign Ministry has summoned the Swiss envoy to protest US allegations of Tehran's involvement in a plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to Washington.
During the meeting, head of the North America Bureau of the Iranian Foreign Ministry said since the victory of the Islamic Revolution Iran has been among the main victims of the terrorist activities of terrorist groups sponsored by the United States.
“Iran, therefore, condemns the baseless claims made by the US government… and warns against the repetition of such politically motivated allegations,” a Foreign Ministry statement said on Wednesday.
The Swiss charge d'affaires assured the Iranian official that Iran's message would be conveyed to Washington as soon as possible and that a response would be relayed to the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
The Swiss Embassy in Tehran also functions as the United States interest section.
The US Justice Department has accused Iran of involvement in a plot to assassinate the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Washington, Adel Al-Jubeir, with help from a suspected member of a Mexican drug cartel.
Tehran says the media hype created by Washington is an attempt to deflect international attention from the intensifying anti-corruption and anti-corporatism protests in the country.
The US is the main supporter of Saudi Arabia -- one of the most repressive and undemocratic regimes in the world.

The "very scary" Iranian Terror plot
By Glenn Greenwald
The most difficult challenge in writing about the Iranian Terror Plot unveiled yesterday is to take it seriously enough to analyze it. Iranian Muslims in the Quds Force sending marauding bands of Mexican drug cartel assassins onto sacred American soil to commit Terrorism -- against Saudi Arabia and possibly Israel -- is what Bill Kristol and John Bolton would feverishly dream up while dropping acid and madly cackling at the possibility that they could get someone to believe it. But since the U.S. Government rolled out its Most Serious Officials with Very Serious Faces to make these accusations, many people (therefore) do believe it; after all, U.S. government accusations = Truth. All Serious people know that. And in the ensuing reaction one finds virtually every dynamic typically shaping discussions of Terrorism and U.S. foreign policy.
To begin with, this episode continues the FBI's record-setting undefeated streak of heroically saving us from the plots they enable. From all appearances, this is, at best, yet another spectacular "plot" hatched by some hapless loser with delusions of grandeur but without any means to put it into action except with the able assistance of the FBI, which yet again provided it through its own (paid, criminal) sources posing as Terrorist enablers. The Terrorist Mastermind at the center of the plot is a failed used car salesman in Texas with a history of pedestrian money problems. Dive under your bed. "For the entire operation, the government's confidential sources were monitored and guided by federal law enforcement agents," explained U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara, and "no explosives were actually ever placed anywhere and no one was actually ever in any danger.'"
But no matter. The U.S. Government and its mindless followers in the pundit and think-tank "expert" class have seized on this ludicrous plot with astonishing speed to all but turn it into a hysterical declaration of war against Evil, Hitlerian Iran. "The US attorney-general Eric Holder said Iran would be "held to account' over what he described as a flagrant abuse of international law," and "the US says military action remains on the table," though "it is at present seeking instead to work through diplomatic and financial means to further isolate Iran." Hillary Clinton thundered that this "crosses a line that Iran needs to be held to account for." The CIA's spokesman at The Washington Post, David Ignatius, quoted an anonymous White House official as saying the plot "appeared to have been authorized by senior levels of the Quds Force." Meanwhile, the State Department has issued a Travel Alert which warns American citizens that this plot "may indicate a more aggressive focus by the Iranian Government on terrorist activity against diplomats from certain countries, to include possible attacks in the United States."
In case that's not enough to frighten you -- and, really, how could it not be? -- some Very Serious Experts are very, very afraid and want you to know how Serious this all is. Within moments of Holder's news conference, National Security Expert Robert Chesney -- without a molecule of critical thought in his brain -- announced that this "remarkable development" was "very scary." Very, very scary. Chesney then printed large blocks of the DOJ's Press Release to prove it. Self-proclaimed "counter-terrorism expert" Daveed Gartenstein-Ross tapped into his vast expertise to explain: "Holder weighing in on the plot's connection to Iran means the administration is deadly serious about it." Progressive think-tank expert and Atlantic writer Steve Clemons decreed that if the DOJ's accusations are true, then "the US has reached a point where it must take action" and "this is time for a significant strategic response to the Iran challenge in the Middle East and globally," which "could involve military."
The ironies here are so self-evident it's hard to work up the energy to point them out. Outside of Pentagon reporters, Washington Post Editorial Page Editors, and Brookings "scholars," is there a person on the planet anywhere who can listen with a straight face as drone-addicted U.S. Government officials righteously condemn the evil, illegal act of entering another country to commit an assassination? Does anyone, for instance, have any interest in finding out who is responsible for the spate of serial murders aimed at Iran's nuclear scientists? Wouldn't people professing to be so outraged by the idea of entering another country to engage in assassination be eager to get to the bottom of that?
Then there's the War on Terror irony: our Hated Enemy here (Iran) is a country which had absolutely nothing to do with the 9/11 attack. Meanwhile, our close ally, the victim on whose behalf we are so outraged (Saudi Arabia), is not only one of the most tyrannical and aggressive regimes on the planet, but produced 15 of the 19 hijackers and had extensive and still-unknown involvement in that attack. If the U.S. is so deeply offended by the involvement of a foreign government in an attack on U.S. soil, it would be looking first to its close friend Saudi Arabia, where "elements of the government" were likely involved in an actual plot rather than a joke of a plot.

US walking on thin Ice...
http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,,15458373,00.html
Quote: | Iran allegations put the US on thin ice
...
The new motto within the Obama administration appears to be "to learn from Bush is to learn to be victorious." George W. Bush based his war against Iraq on lies about weapons of mass destruction, and on insider information fed to him by an apparently credible Iraqi informer, who later turned out to be a money-grubbing liar.
....
Obama might be considerably less trigger happy than his predecessor George W. Bush, but his Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Justice Minister Eric Holder have made some rash statements in the context of Iran.
They have screamed out to the world that Teheran's state terrorists and nuclear bomb builders will stop at nothing. And those who will stop at nothing, have to be stopped before they go too far.
Israeli and Saudi-Arabian representatives regularly ask the US president why he doesn't follow his predecessor's lead and wage a preventative war against Teheran and its nuclear plants. Now Obama's government has provided reasons for this question to be asked even more pointedly.
....
It increases the likelihood of a military attack against Iranian bomb and weapons bunkers. But an armed conflict is the last thing the Middle East, America and the crisis-riddled world needs. Words can be weapons, and the words used by America's Justice Minister, Secretary of State and head of the FBI in the context of Iran, are offensive weapons - aimed at Teheran.
Such verbal attacks are not only dangerous, but should be taboo for a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate such as Obama. At their heart they are based on information that an undercover agent hired by the US narcotics authorities collected from an Iranian he used to talk with. But the agent was a junkie himself who became a spy in order to escape a prison sentence.
The American government is walking on very thin ice, and even if the key witness did turn out to be credible, there is no need for a government to broadcast everything it thinks it knows. That is something Obama should have learned rather than copied from George W. Bush. |

Seems to be a new tactic all these "foiled plots" What worries me is that in order for the moderates to swallow the lies its gonna need a proper false flag. My hunch is that it will be a "quasi Christian" target. Christian Zionists have been busy through various media in sowing the All Arabs hates jews and christians line. As the elite PTBs doent seem to give a monkeys about who they target my guess would be a significant "Catholic" target.

I was coming to the same conclusion. Ratzinger?
No matter how ludicrous the current Iranian-FBI-Informant-Bomb plot appears, US politicians continue the escalation on Iran - while the War talk has died down - Obama is still talking about isolating Iran.

Friend: Man accused in Saudi plot is more 'Mr. Bean than 007'
By the CNN Wire Staff - October 14, 2011
http://edition.cnn.com/2011/10/14/us/iran-saudi-arbabsiar-profile/
Manssor Arbabsiar, charged with conspiring to kill the Saudi ambassador to the U.S., is shown in a mug shot from 2001.
Man earns nickname "Jack" for his affinity for the whiskey Jack Daniels
Friend says Manssor Arbabsiar is too disorganized to take part in a killing plot
He is accused of plotting to kill the Saudi ambassador to the United States
Arbabsiar has had prior brushes with the law for minor infractions
(CNN) -- A man accused of an alleged Iranian plot to assassinate the Saudi Arabian ambassador to the United States was too disorganized to have been a part of the scheme, a friend said.
Manssor Arbabsiar is accused of conspiracy to murder a foreign official, conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction and conspiracy to commit an act of terrorism.
Know as "Jack" because of his affinity for the whiskey Jack Daniels, the 56-year-old naturalized U.S. citizen wasn't much of a businessman, according to David Tomscha, who owned a car lot with him for about a year in 2000.
"If they wanted 007, I think they got Mr. Bean," Tomscha said.
"He was very disorganized, he would lose most anything and he would get the dates of the cars wrong," Tomscha said. "He'd tell you it was an '89 and maybe it was an '85. One thing you could be sure, whatever date he told you, it wasn't that year."
The disorganization extended to his personal life.
"He wouldn't pay his bills, not because he didn't have the money necessarily, but because he would forget to pay them," Tomscha said. "If it wasn't for his wife, he'd be homeless on the street."
Earlier this week, another friend Mitchel Hamauei, who has known Arbabsiar for 20 years, said he didn't seem to have strong views on politics or religion.
"It was shocking because it didn't seem like he would be the type of person to do something like that," Hamauei said, adding that he met Arbabsiar through mutual Iranian friends.
Arbabsiar and Gholam Shakuri, an Iran-based member of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, are accused of a conspiracy to murder a foreign official, conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction and conspiracy to commit an act of terrorism, the FBI said Tuesday.
Arbabsiar was arrested in September. Shakuri remains at large, the bureau said.
The two were in a group that began planning this spring to kill Saudi Ambassador Adel Al-Jubeir, the FBI said.
"I don't think he's the Manchurian candidate," said Tomscha. "He came over. He liked this country. He made money here."
Arbabsiar has had prior brushes with the law, but they were for minor infractions.
Public records show three arrests for Arbabsiar over the past 25 years. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail for evading arrest in 1987, and he pleaded "no contest" to a lesser charge in 2004 after he was arrested for driving on a suspended license. Arbabsiar also received a speeding ticket in 2007 for going more than 10 mph over the limit. A 2001 theft charge against Arbabsiar was dismissed, CNN affiliate KIII-TV reported.
According to the allegations he now faces, Arbabsiar and an undercover informant discussed using explosives to kill the Saudi ambassador and possibly attacking a crowded restaurant, according to an FBI affidavit released Tuesday.
The informant named $1.5 million as his price, it said.
Arbabsiar allegedly sent $100,000 intended as a down payment, telling the informant his "cousin" had deep pockets, court documents said.
"He didn't strike me as the kind of guy who would want to go out there and murder hundreds of innocent people," Tomscha said. "That takes a real callous person and he never stuck me like that."

Derivatives are in trouble, so an Iranian war distraction is needed. Alex Jones suggests that action is being taken to kick off an Israel strike against Iran with the phoney, Hollywood-style Iranian assassination plot as one trigger event, http://rss.infowars.com/20111014_Fri_Alex.mp3.
According to the Bank of International Settlements, there are $600 trillion of outstanding, unregulated derivatives. This is 10 times global GDP. The so-called rogue trader at UBS and the Dexia bank bailout, http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-15235915, suggests that we are near a derivatives collapse. That is, the rogue trader lost billions doing what he had been told to do but this fact could not be admitted. So, get him to plead guilty to fraud and pay him millions when he gets out of jail three years later.
As for Dexia, we were told that the Greek-Euro crisis was the cause of the bailout. Yet, Greece has not (yet) defaulted. Why would a bank that loaned money to Greece need to be saved if Greece is still paying its debts? Indeed, according to the FT, Dexia's biggest exposure is to Italy - and its 15-year bonds.
The real reason of our financial problems is derivatives. Dexia is Europe's biggest derivatives trader, http://sgtreport.com/2011/10/red-alert-so-begins-the-derivatives-implo sion-with-dexia-a-bank-no-one-has-heard-of/. Remember the Ghanaian rogue trader working for UBS? He worked in derivatives.
What's made matters worse for these banks is that China has told the six biggest Western banks that they will not honour these derivative deals. Basically, they regard derivatives as criminal, they feel they have been conned and they won't pay up.
This is the real reason banks are being downgraded by people like Fitch and Moody's, not the phoney Euro crisis or government debt.
Derivatives are close to collapse – a distraction is needed, quick.
Which brings us to Oliver Letwin and Liam Fox. Letwin was clearly behaving as a spy using dead letter box drops. Amongst all the ‘constituency papers’ were, no doubt, government thinking on Iran. And Mossad rubbish collectors will take care of those papers for him. Then there is Fox. Wheritty seems to be running him on behalf of an Anglo-American neo-con network, who were, probably, organizing a US response to an Israeli strike against Iran.
Yet, there is no doubt strong opposition against such action within the UK and US establishments. This is why we are hearing about Letwin and Fox.

Re attack on Iran:
Surprised no one picked up on this. I got email from States giving three AJ links on this this morning, but didn't have time to post it on Forum.
I searched for the email when I got in tonight, and 'voila!', it had dissapeared.
I knew I hadn't imagined it, and located this:
http://www.infowars.com/sources-us-gives-israel-green-light-for-iran-s trike/
But it wasn't up near the top of the search, which one would expect, given the importance of the issue, and AJ's record of being 'on the money' with forecasts, including 9/11 2/3 months before it happened.
Seems to me there may be a major internet blitz by 'them' to keep this prediction off the grapevine....

'Mossad gave Arbabsiar ID papers'
Mon Oct 17, 2011 2:7PM
http://www.presstv.ir/detail/205085.html
A senior Pakistani intelligence official says the man at the center of an alleged plot to kill a Saudi diplomat in Washington had received forged identity documents from the Israeli intelligence agency, Mossad.
"The person who is accused in this case had received fake ID documents from Mossad three months ago," the Pakistani Urdu-language Ummat daily quoted the Inter-Services Intelligence officer as saying on condition of anonymity.
He also revealed that Mansour Arbabsiar, 56, "was due to conduct an operation named Foss Fling" for the Mossad.
On Sunday, Iran's Foreign Ministry once again summoned the Swiss envoy to protest US allegations of Tehran's involvement in a plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to Washington.
During the meeting, head of the North America Bureau of the Iranian Foreign Ministry said the US was obliged to collect information about the suspect in custody, and extradite him to Iran's interest section in Washington based on international regulation.
Last Tuesday, the US Justice Department accused Iran of plotting to assassinate Saudi Arabian Ambassador Adel al-Jubeir, with help from a suspected member of a Mexican drug cartel.
Tehran says the media hype created by Washington is an attempt to deflect international attention from the anti-corruption and anti-corporatism protests currently rocking the country.
Iran's envoy to the UN, Mohammad Khazaei, has filed a complaint against the US for what he called the “evil plot.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has described the US accusation as an immature scenario and says US officials will ultimately be forced to apologize.
