no one's gonna deny the fact INS Viraat has served the naval arm something beyond obviously, but it ofcourse old today yet intensely formidable. Its real sisters will be joining soon...INS Vikramaditiya(2012) and INS Vishal (2015)...

Quote:
The Vikramaditya will replace the aging INS Viraat aircraft carrier in 2013, after trials and commissioning. Also in 2013-2014, the Vikramaditya will be joined by the INS Virkant, currently under construction and due to be the first indigenously designed and built Indian aircraft carrier.

But then the new Russian Carrier will be Russian equipped so maybe India has a change of heart after all?

Quote:
The 3 indigenous Vikrant class will be INS Vikrant(first one), INS Virat and INS Vishal.

INS Vishal might be a super carrier (90K T displacement )

It is clear to me that all this war is to militarily control or stop the spread of influence of Russia and China. Look what countries are hit, look at recent China/Russia dealings with these nations and always look at the World map!

yet more containment of China

Australians call for suspension of military cooperation with US
Rihab Charida, Press TV, Sydney

Quote:
The recent arrival of 200 US troops at the new military base in Darwin has renewed calls from Australia’s anti-war movement to end Australia’s close military cooperation with the US and increased military expenditure.

Opponents to the base say that it will not bring peace, but rather will increase the chance of hostilities towards Australia both in the region and globally.

The military base in Darwin was announced by US President Barack Obama during his visit to Australia in November, and by the end of 2017 it is expected that there will be up to 2,500 Marines at the base in Darwin.

Whilst two thirds of all US marines are based in the pacific, Australian Defence Minister Stephen Smith rejected the analysis that the closer military ties between Australia and the United States are a response to the growing military assertiveness of China, Australia's most important trading partner.

The Australian government refers to the US bases as joint facilities, with Prime Minister Gillard claiming that there are no U.S. military bases in Australia. The reality is that the 50 military bases in Australia have all been made available to the US. The US has can and has used these bases at times of war to launch missiles or gather surveillance.

On Wednesday, the Australian Anti Bases Campaign along with other anti-war groups launched a new network to resist the US military buildup in the pacific and the stationing of US marines in Australian, which they say threatens to bring war to their doorstep.

The coalition was also formed in response to the increased military expenditure which they say only benefits the powerful elements of society who are profiting from the government’s huge military budgets. They say these forces are undermining Australia’s economy, damaging the environment and destroying thousands of lives in foreign countries such as Afghanistan.

This high expenditure comes at the cost of public service and infrastructure. In the case of recent natural disasters, the government did not consider cutting any of its exorbitant military budget but rather cut environmental, education and housing programs in order to pay for the reconstruction effort after cyclone Yasi and the devastating floods in Queensland which is costing $5 billion.

There has consistently been bi-partisan support for military and other cooperation with the US with both Labor and Liberal supporting annual increases in military spending despite the views of the Australian public.

According to reports commisioned by Anti Bases campaign, 85% of Australians do not want more of their tax money being spent on the military. Despite this, Australia is among the top military spenders per capita in world, with an annual spend of $36 billion dollars, an amount that is expected to rise by 4 to 5 per cent each year for the next 20 years.

Quote:
200 US troops recently have arrived in Australia and will be stationed at a military base in the country's north. Anti-war groups have raised concerns about the strengthening military ties with the US which they say is not in Australia's interests. Over 80% of Australians are opposed to the Australia's military spending which is currently at $87million per day, especially given public services have been suffering in recent years from lack of funds.
