AirAsia flight carrying 162 people from Indonesia to Singapore has lost contact with air traffic controllers.

Indonesian Transport Ministry official Hadi Mustofa said Flight QZ8501 stopped communicating with the Jakarta air traffic control tower at 7.24am local time.

He said the plane had asked for an unusual route before contact was lost with Indonesia's Juanda International Airport in Surabaya.

The flight was expected to arrive in Singapore at 8.30am local time (12.30am UK time).

Most of those on board - 156 - were from Indonesia, with three from South Korea, and one each from France, Malaysia and Singapore.

Authorities had initially said that one Briton was aboard the plane.

According to air traffic control website Flight Radar, the aircraft was travelling at 32,000-feet over the Java Sea when contact was lost.

Aviation expert Doug Maclean told Sky News that all the evidence suggests that "something very serious" has happened.

A statement on Malaysia based AirAsia's Facebook page said: "AirAsia Indonesia regrets to confirm that Flight QZ8501 from Surabaya to Singapore has lost contact with air traffic control at 07.24hrs this morning.

"At the present time we unfortunately have no further information regarding the status of the passengers and crew members on board, but we will keep all parties informed as more information becomes available.

"The aircraft was an Airbus A320-200 with the registration number PK-AXC. At this time, search and rescue operations are in progress and AirAsia is cooperating fully and assisting the rescue service."

The airline has set up an emergency call centre for family or friends of those who may have been on board the aircraft.

AirAsia co-founder and director Tony Fernandes, who is also chairman of QPR football club and UK-based F1 team Caterham, tweeted a short statement saying: "My only thoughts are with the passangers and my crew.

"We put our hope in the SAR operation and thank the Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysian governments."

A statement issued by the Singapore Civil Aviation Authority said: "The Singapore Rescue Coordination Centre has offered help to the Indonesian authorities. Two C-130s are already on stand-by for this purpose.

"Crisis Management Centres have already been activated. We are working with the airline's crisis management team. A waiting area, and all necessary facilities and support have been set up for relatives and friends of the affected passengers at Changi Airport Terminal 2."

The incident comes at the end of a difficult year for Malaysia's airlines. National flag carrier Malaysia Airlines lost two aircraft this year.

Flight MH370 went missing on 8 March on a trip from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 passengers and crew on board.

On 17 July, Flight MH17 was shot down over Ukraine, killing all 298 people on board.

:: Relatives or friends of those aboard the plane can contact the AirAsia hotline on: +62 212 985 0801.

A British national was on board missing AirAsia flight QZ8501, the UK Foreign Office has confirmed.

The FCO said the passenger's next of kin had been informed.

The airline had originally released a statement listing the nationalities of passengers and crew as Indonesian, South Korean, Singaporean, Malaysian and French.

Flight QZ8501 from Surabaya in Indonesia to Singapore went missing in the early hours of Sunday.

An FCO spokesman said: "We are aware of an incident regarding AirAsia flight QZ8501.

"Our thoughts are with the passengers' families as they await further news.

"We have been informed by the local authorities that one British national was on board. Their next of kin has been informed, and we stand ready to provide consular assistance."

Yes
Looking dodgy
Yes you look for an unusual route to avoid high altitude bad weather which is rare
But this flight didn't avoid the bad weather

This is the THIRD Malaysian aircraft to crash this year
Time to look for nearby US bases or AWACS in the zone I'm afraid
Yes, Air Asia (MYX: 5099) is a Malaysian low-cost airline headquartered near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
News media not making the connection
Neither with the Malaysian authorities verdicts on 9/11, Bush, Blair, the Israelis et al.

Quote:
In a separate story, Detik.com also quoted Nasional Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) Jakarta chief Sutrisno as saying that the agency's radar did not detect the flight's Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT).

He said the ELT would go off if there was impact or if the plane had gone under water.

"If the plane landed smoothly on water, it wouldn't have gone off, unless the device was not working. It didn't go off so Basarnas doesn't know its position now," Detik quoted him as saying.

These incidents follow news reports of ISIS encouraging lone wolf terrorists to target British airlines--specifically BA and Easy jet.

If the stock trades story proves to have any truth to it this will only be known about as a deliberate downing by a handful of people
Could be more effort is being taken to disguise attacks on Malaysia but making sure key people know it's an attack?

This is an interesting article.

The aircraft is easily accessible to divers. Why haven't we heard more about it?

AirAsia plane engine dies just before takeoff from Surabaya, passengers told to disembark:
http://www.straitstimes.com/news/asia/south-east-asia/story/airasia-pl ane-engine-dies-just-takeoff-surabaya-passengers-told-dise

Yet another one! Airlines hopefully have taken note, and next time they need new aircraft, they avoid Boeing and Airbus like the plague!
Also, passengers should be very wary of getting on such planes, especially from Foreign carriers.

Perhaps a good opening for Russian, Chinese and Brazilian aircraft manufacturers?

Why are they cutting up the aircraft before finding out how the aircraft crashed?

Leaked radar data hints AirAsia plane rose, fell very fast:
http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/661959/leaked-radar-data-hints-airasia-pl ane-rose-fell-very-fast

'About 45 minutes after the Airbus 320-200 with 162 people on board left Surabaya for Singapore on Sunday morning, the pilots asked air traffic control for approval to climb from 32,000 feet to 38,000 feet in order to avoid a storm.

Approval was given for an ascent to 34,000 feet, after which air traffic control lost contact with the cockpit.

Between then and the crash, which has apparently left no survivors, the plane allegedly climbed at a rate of 6,000 feet to 9,000 feet per minute.

It then fell at a rate of 11,000 feet per minute, with sudden drops of up to 24,000 feet per minute, based on unverified data recently tweeted by Indonesian aviation analyst Gerry Soejatman.

However, Jacques Astre, president of industry consultancy International Aviation Safety Solutions, said: “The (climb) rates sound excessive… Given the altitude and potential weight of the aircraft, such a rate of climb sounds quite excessive for the aircraft’s capability.”

An experienced A-320 pilot said: “The steepest climb is usually done after take-off, when the plane has maximum power, to reach cruise altitude and, even then, we are looking at 3,000 to 4,000 feet a minute.

“At 32,000 feet, where the air is thinner, the plane is not capable of doing a 6,000 to 9,000 feet per minute climb. Even to do 1,000 feet a minute is tough.”

I have read somewhere else (but can't find it now) that a pilot would have to be bonkers to even try for such a high angle climb.

BUT, supposing the plane was 'highjacked' via the 'highjacker override system' that this fly-by-wire plane had installed: then it could INTENTIONALLY have been put into a totally unsustainably high climb angle, causing stall, extremely rapid descent, then be blown apart by such abrupt pressure changes caused by extreme rate of descent?

I took this comment off AV Herald comment section:
'According to the passenger list, there were three no-shows. Lucky ones'

Worth investigating these 'lucky' folk?

Crash: Indonesia Asia A320 over Java Sea on Dec 28th 2014, aircraft lost height and impacted waters:
http://avherald.com/h?article=47f6abc7

'...The crew requested to climb to FL380 and requested to deviate to the left of M-635 around cloud. The aircraft seemingly was on the radar screen at 06:16L, at 06:17L only the ADS-B signal remained, contact with ATC was lost, at 06:18L the target disappeared from the radar screen. At 07:08L INCERFA was invoked by ATC, at 07:28L ATC declared ALERFA and at 07:55L DETRESFA was declared by ATC. According to standard operating procedures AirNav Indonesia opened a crisis center under the lead of the director of Civil Aviation at the Tower of Jakarta Airport. All crew with the exception of the first officer (French citizen) were Indonesians. In addition to the 6 crew there were 155 passengers on board of the aircraft.

On Dec 29th 2014 Indonesia's Ministry of Transport (DEPHUB) reported that 8 ships have been dispatched to or already are in the area to search for the wreckage. In addition to three Hercules C-130s dispatched by Indonesia's Air Force a King Air aircraft, normally used for calibration of navigation aids, has also been dispatched to search for the A320, the King Air searched the area of Sampit to Pontianak and mainland of Borneo on Dec 28th and today (Dec 29th) is searching the area from West Kalimantan to Bangka Belitung Islands and Tanjung Pandan (Pulau Belitung). The search resumed in the morning at 06:00L (Dec 28th 23:00Z).

On Dec 29th 2014 AirNav Indonesia reported that the captain of the flight requested to climb to FL380. AirNav Indonesia coordinated with Singapore, which took not more than two, maybe three minutes. Due to other traffic the aircraft could not get cleared to FL380 instantly and was cleared to FL340 at first. When the aircraft was radioed with the clearance to climb to FL340 at 06:14L, there was no response anymore. At that time the aircraft was still visible on the radar screen, the controller asked other aircraft around QZ-8501 to relay, but neither aircraft received a response from QZ-8501. There were seven aircraft passing through the area at that time at flight levels between 290 and 380, neither of them encountered any difficulties. The radar target of QZ-8501 disappeared from radar screen at 06:18L.

On Jan 15th 2015 Indonesia's Ministry of Transport announced, that both flight data and cockpit voice recorder have been downloaded successfully by Indonesia's NTSC. The CVR is currently being transcribed, the flight data recorder analysis is in progress and expected to take some time.

In a parliamentary meeting on Jan 20th 2015 Indonesia's Minister of Transport told members of Indonesian Parliament (House of Representatives) that the aircraft was climbing at a vertical rate of up to 6000 fpm exceeding the aircraft's capabilities, its airspeed decreased and it appears the aircraft entered a stall. Indonesia's media had earlier reported, claiming to quote members of the Indonesia's NTSC (there is no official confirmation from the NTSC), that the cockpit voice recorder has now been heard in its entirety, about half of it had been transcribed already, there were only the voices of the two pilots, sounds of various warnings and cautions, but no abnormal sounds like another voice, shots or explosions. Media thus reported, again without official confirmation, the NTSC rules out terrorism as cause of the crash....'

If you scroll down to the 'comments' section, Captain out of his seat, not out of his seat; circuit breaker pulled, circuit breaker not pulled.
The site does not allow 'Conspiracy Theory' comments, but the impossibly steep rise, plus Chinese guy's pre warning of a 'Black Hand' downing of another Malaysian plane, screams 'Electronic takeover', like MH370.
Also apparently the plane was not cleared for the flights on Sundays, so France and First Officer's family taking manslaughter proceedings against airline...

'Indonesia AirAsia Flight 8501':
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indonesia_AirAsia_Flight_8501

'.....'Legal proceedings[edit]

France has opened a criminal investigation to investigate possible manslaughter charges. The family of the first officer, a French national, have filed a lawsuit against AirAsia in connection to the lack of permission to fly on that day, claiming the airline was "endangering the life of others."....'
