A student called in police over a former top cop who sexually pestered her while teaching criminology.
The 24-year-old victim spoke out as Martin Kay, 51, an ex-counter-terrorism chief turned lecturer, dodged prison.
The dad of two got a suspended sentence after bombarding the victim with texts, reports the Sunday People.
He got the woman’s number after she turned to him for support after being diagnosed with an incurable illness.
“He put me through a living nightmare,” she said.
The student was pursued relentlessly by Kay whilst she was studying at university.
She told him she was ill, asking if the university might give her extra time for assignments.
He offered to help and asked if she had family.
“I told him I had no one, that I lived alone. Martin wrote down his number on his business card. He told me I could contact him day or night.
“I cried - it was the first time I had told anyone outside my family.
“I was relieved and grateful. But what started as a professional relationship became a nightmare.
“Martin’s messages became sexually explicit and constant - even though I told him not to contact me.
“He pressured me into responding to his messages, emails, phone calls and requests to send pictures and videos.
“I felt anxious and fearful that if I rejected him, my grades would suffer.
“He was trying to dominate, control my life. I felt he was blackmailing me: if I was not nice to him my grades would suffer and he would tell people about my condition."
She started skipping university but he pursued her by phone and email.
“Martin went out of his way to make my life miserable. I felt trapped and scared.
“I had a sense of panic, immense fear and loneliness. I knew no way of making him stop. I was angry, incredibly sad and ashamed.”
The woman, an overseas student, lost her scholarship because of the stress which put her in hospital for nearly a fortnight.
“I felt broken by Martin. I broke down in front of my partner and realised the control that he had over me,” she said.
She told a district judge at Lancaster Magistrates Court: “Martin Kay is a sexual predator preying on vulnerable women for sexual gain. He is a manipulative and calculating groomer."
The student contacted cops in September 2014.
Kay denied her allegations in four interviews but accepted harassment in the fifth.
Before leaving the police in 2013, Kay was promoted to Det Supt with Special Branch.
He worked with MI5, MI6, Counter-Terrorism Command at New Scotland Yard, the Home Office and the North West Counter Terrorism Unit, and was part of a team reviewing policing at the London Olympics.
The ex-cop, of Samlesbury, near Preston, Lancashire, pleaded guilty to a single charge of sexual harassment. His jail term was suspended for a year. He has resigned from the university.
He claimed in court to have an 'unblemished' and 'exemplary' record.
Police confirmed two years before he retired he had waged a similar campaign against a woman officer.
“This matter was dealt with at the time and was resolved informally in line with the wishes of the officer involved,” said a force spokesman.
"Mr Kay was moved from his post and there were no formal misconduct proceedings.
“We have referred the matter to our Professional Standards Department.”

There is no justice in the UK at all. This pervert should have got life for what he did considering what his job was, he did know better but of course he's got off completely. Disgraceful. Our police are a complete waste of money in UK. They only work for the 1%.
