Dozens of people were killed in the French Riviera city of Nice late on Thursday when a truck ploughed into crowds watching a fireworks display on France's Bastille Day national holiday, the mayor said on Twitter.
BFM TV said at least 30 were dead after the truck drove through people on the famed Promenade des Anglais on the Nice seafront. BFM said local authorities were treating the incident as an attack. Almost exactly eight months ago Islamic State militants killed 130 people on a Friday night in Paris in November.
"Dear Nicois," local government leader Christian Estrosi wrote in a tweet. "The driver of a truck appears to have killed dozens of people. Stay at home for the time being. More news to follow."
Regional newspaper Nice Matin quoted its own reporter at the scene saying there were many injured people and blood on the street. It published a photograph of a damaged, long-distance delivery truck, which it said was "riddled with bullets" and images of emergency services treating the injured.
Damien Allemand, the paper's correspondent, was quoted as saying: "People are running. It's panic. He rode up onto the Prom and piled into the crowd ... There are people covered in blood. There must be many injured."

At least 73 people have reportedly lost their lives and scores more others sustained injuries when a truck ran through a crowd of people marking the French National Day, commonly known as the Bastille Day, in the southern French city of Nice.
A French MP told BFM TV that guns and grenades were found inside the truck that drove into crowd in Nice.
Local iTele TV channel quoted police as saying 73 people have been killed.
French President Hollande Francois Hollande, who was in the southeastern commune of Avignon, is returning to Paris, where he will join ongoing crisis meetings after the attack in Nice.
Gunmen are reported to have taken hostages in a hotel and restaurant in Nice.
Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi, who was attending the celebration at the time of the attack, has tweeted: "Dear people of Nice, the driver of a truck seems to have left dozens dead. Stay for now in your home. More info to come."
Police have reportedly shot the truck driver dead.

There is a deep irony in the fact that French President Francois Hollande will celebrate Bastille Day, July 14, the day in 1789 when civil unrest led to an uprising which led to a written constitution and a breakaway National Assembly.

Hollande is himself — 227 years later — facing civil unrest and deep unpopularity over his controversial labor law reforms and for using a part of the constitution to bypass the National Assembly and force through the legislation.

Back in 1789, France — under Louis XVI — was in a serious economic crisis, mainly caused by the cost of intervening in the American Revolution. An argument grew between the nobility/clergy and the commoners — the Second and Third Estates —leading to the storming of the Bastille, where political prisoners were held, the creation of a National Assembly and a written constitution.

France has been hit with a series of strikes and mass demonstrations since March, bringing chaos to the rail network, the Paris Metro and airlines, as well as road transport, because of industrial action and blockades at fuel refineries and depots.

Hollande Becomes Most Unpopular President Ever Amid Labor Reform Crisis

The labor reforms were largely directed at making companies take on more workers on permanent contracts, rather than temporary ones, to bring down the unemployment rate from ten percent. The proposals would give employers more scope to lay-off workers and cut costs and allow some employees to work far longer than the current 35-hour week.
The reforms were pushed through by Hollande, who invoked a little used piece of the constitution — article 49.3 — to bypass parliament and implement the reforms.

As Hollande watches the fireworks on Bastille Day — probably his last as president — he may well reflect on his place in history: the person that used the constitution against the masses that created it.

Like so many children Yannis Coviaux loved the beach, playing in the sand and the sea. His father’s solitary consolation this weekend is that his four-year-old boy died happy, clutching a toy car and contented after a blissful day with friends. Yannis was among the victims mown down by a 19-tonne refrigerated truck driven by a mass murderer.

His tale is just one of the heartbreaking stories from the Bastille Day massacre in Nice. Father Mickael Coviaux told a French paper how he pulled his wife out of the way and dived to the ground as the lorry, driven with such lethal intent, bore down on them. Then he looked up and saw his son lying still in a pool of blood. ‘When I saw him on the floor, I immediately understood,’ he said. ‘It looked like Aylan.’

Two tiny boys. Two tiny corpses. And one apparent link in that they were both victims of jihadist terrorism in their own separate ways. Aylan Kurdi, a three-year-old Kurd from northern Syria who fled the savagery of Islamic State only to drown in the Mediterranean amid hostility to such refugees. And Yannis Coviaux, a four-year-old French boy who died after a day spent playing innocently in the surf of the same sea.

Yannis was far from the only child to die last week in Nice. Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel also killed another four-year-old named Kylian Mejri, along with his mother Olfa Ben Souayah Khalfallah; like Bouhlel, she lived in France but was of Tunisian descent. These atrocities do not discriminate between religions or nationalities, of course, since their sole purpose is to sow the utmost havoc, horror and hatred.


Muslim fanaticism not the root cause

But we should pause to ponder whether politicians and the media are playing a part in furthering their divisive cause. The Nice killings were instantly blamed on Islamic State, fuelling fears over Muslim fanaticism. Sure enough, the terror group soon claimed Bouhlel was one of their ‘soldiers’. With the now familiar choreography of such attacks, French politicians condemned IS depravity while opponents – particularly the far-right – sought to make maximum political capital from bloodshed.

Public concerns are understandable; this was the third major attack on French soil in 18 months. Yes, we know burgers, cars and smoking wipe out far more people in the West than terrorist bombs, guns and knives. That fewer people died in recent years from terrorism than in previous decades. And that such evil slaughter is the most ignorant perversion of Islam. But cold statistics do not set racing minds at rest.

Yet was Bouhlel really a jihadist killer, dying from twisted devotion to his religion? Or merely a pathetic inadequate who cloaked himself in their cause to carry out deeds no different from those mass shootings we see all too often in America? France’s interior minister claimed Bouhlel ‘radicalised himself very quickly.’ And there is no doubt IS seeks to encourage such killings. Before rushing to judgement and inflating their cruel image, however, consider the facts.

As a boy, Bouhlel was troubled and violent – ‘he would break anything he saw in front of him,’ said his father. The delivery driver had been prescribed medication for depression. He drank, smoke, gambled and took drugs. He ate pork, enjoyed music and, although a married father of three, eyed up his neighbour’s daughters. He was a loner, estranged from his wife and probably suffering financial problems. He was known to police for theft and domestic violence, but not for links to religious extremism.


Bouhlel’s family said he did not pray or attend a mosque. His wife’s cousin said ‘he was not a Muslim, he was a *… a nasty piece of work.’ Perhaps in the depths of despair he found solace suddenly in religion and fell in with hardliners. Possibly he was turned rapidly by the bloodstained bigots of Isis into a jihadist killer. But even if confirmed, the evidence still points to a sick individual filled with loathing, whose personal troubles exploded in the most terrible way on the wider world.

Similarity to Orlando killings

In this, he was no different to Omar Mateen, another disturbed man who last month killed 49 people at a gay nightclub in Florida. Once again, he left little trail of links to religious extremists although had watched gruesome Isis videos; his only radical messages posted online came the night he carried out barbarity. He had even been followed by the FBI for months. But he beat up classmates, was a long-term steroid user and, although twice married, seems to have struggled with his sexuality.

How often do we hear these mass killers took drugs, stole and were violent before seeking infamy? And how rare the evidence they observed tenets of the religion in whose name they kill. Yet the consequences of their carnage is clear – just look at the latest Pew survey showing a rise in unfavourable views of Muslims across Europe. The proportion of British people holding such views has risen from 19 to 28 per cent since last year; in several nations from Spain to Hungary, it is far higher.

Such data must delight those seeking to drive open fissures in our society. Not just leaders of jihadist groups, but also loathsome nationalist politicians who trade in public fear. If we want to preserve our liberal democracies, we need to resist their hostility. Yet in the rush to pin a label on losers who take out their self-hatred on humanity, are we doing some dirty work for those seeking more death, destruction and division?

French people have taken to Twitter to make fun of Isis after the terrorist group claimed responsibility for the Bastille Day attack in Nice.

The Amaq news agency, the jihadists' propaganda site, claimed Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel was "one of the soldiers of the Islamic State", but French authorities have not discovered any links between Bouhlel and any terrorist organisation.

Bouhlel killed 84 people and injured hundreds more when he drove a lorry for over a mile through crowds gathered for Bastille Day celebrations.

Expressing their contempt for the group and its dubious claims, French nationals have used the hashtag #DaeshRevendique, or #IsisClaims, to speculate what other bad things the group might next take responsibility for.

Everything from France losing to Portugal in the final of Euro 2016 to bad haircuts have jokingly been attributed to the terrorist group.

According to Le Figaro, the Mayor of Nice has received a requisition sent by the Ministry of the Interior, claiming that all the pictures taken at the site where 84 people died on the 14th of July, to be destroyed in order to "prevent their dissemination".

The sub-directorate terrorism (SDAT) has expressly requested the deletion "complete" is nearly 20 hours of footage from all the cameras that have filmed the scene of the crime between the 14 July at 22: 30 and July 15 to 18h. In effect, a "judicial order" urgent, that obtained the French newspaper Le Figaro, was sent on 20 July to the supervision centre urban Nice.

French authorities withdrew police vans blocking off the promenade in Nice just hours before a 19-ton truck crushed at least 84 people to death in an Islamist terrorist attack, it emerged last night.

The disclosure raises serious questions over the security for the 30,000 people who had gathered on the Promenade des Anglais for the Bastille Day fireworks.

Just 60 officers were on duty, despite France being on heightened alert and concern that Nice was a likely target for attack because of the large number of jihadists from the city who had already travelled to Syria.

Four police vans that had blocked off the Promenade des Anglais to protect a military parade earlier in the day were removed before the attack on Thursday, according to eyewitnesses.

In a pessimistic interview with the Journal du Dimanche, Manual Valls, the French Prime Minister, has warned that terrorism will be a part of the country’s daily life for a long time.

A senior French police officer has claimed that the interior ministry “harassed” her into altering a security report from the deadly terrorist attack in Nice.

Sandra Bertin, the officer in charge of Nice's CCTV control room, told the Journal du Dimanche newspaper on Sunday that an unnamed interior ministry official contacted her after the attack and pressured her into altering her report for the night of the incident.

On July 14, a truck driver plowed through a Bastille Day crowd in Nice, killing 84 people and wounding 200 others.

Bertin claims that she was "harassed for an hour" by the official who wanted her to detail the presence of local and national police at the fireworks event where the carnage took place.

"The national police were perhaps there, but I couldn't see them on the video," she said, adding, "He ordered me to put in (the report) the specific positions of the national police which I had not seen on the screen."
She also said that the person from the ministry told her to email her report in a “modifiable form … so they didn’t have to type it all out again.”

France’s Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve (seen below) has dismissed the claims and has announced that he will sue Bertin for defamation.



“It will be very useful if Madame Sandra Bertin could be questioned by the investigators and could give them the names and positions of the people she is accusing, the emails she is talking about and their contents,” he said in a statement.
“Unworthy accusations are part of the virulent polemic that certain elected representatives in Nice have wanted to encourage and feed every day since the terrible July 14 attack,” he added.

The 31-year-old Franco-Tunisian assailant in the attack, who was later shot dead by police, was identified as Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel.

The Daesh Takfiri terrorist group later claimed responsibility for the deadly attack in Nice. But, Paris prosecutor Francois Molins said that no direct evidence has been found to link the attacker to the terrorists.

The European country has been in a state of emergency since last November, when assailants struck at least six different venues in and around the capital Paris, leaving 130 people dead and over 350 others injured. Daesh claimed responsibility for the horrendous assaults.

On Wednesday, the French parliament extended the country's state of emergency for another six months.

Two weeks after a truck killed 84 people in Nice by driving over them, the exact daytime of the terror ride is still not clear. This is most remarkable because the incident was witnessed by thousands of people and authorities and the media ought to be able in the meantime to report the time of the crime up to the minute. But media reports in the immediate aftermath vary from 22:30 to shortly after 23:00, and the uncertainty hasn't improved since. Here's an excerpt:

The last source, the German TV journalist Richard Gutjahr, is the most reliable one insofar as he was in Nice, witnessed the last seconds of the terror ride from the balcony of his hotel room and filmed it with his smartphone in a now famous video. He probably extracted the time from the metadata of the video.

All sources agree that the truck was going very fast, so it is incomprehensible why Le Figaro and Le Monde report a time span of 15 and 30 minutes. There are also countless private witness accounts, most of them pinpointing the attack at around 23:00.

So far, this hotchpotch has not been clarified by any official, no police president, no mayor, no prosecutor and no politician. The world had to wait for a medium rank police officer to learn of more details. Sandra Bertin from the Nice police department is responsible for the surveillance cameras and hit the headlines by uncovering a row between the national government and the local law enforcement. She claims, among other things, to have been urged by the interior ministry to destroy crucial surveillance footage, which she refused to do. Instead she went public in an interview with the Journal du Dimanche and revealed details, finally:

Je me rappellerai toute ma vie de cette heure-là : 22h33. J’étais devant les écrans du CSU avec les équipes. Nous recevons alors des policiers municipaux positionnés sur la Promenade le signalement d’un camion fou. Nous récupérons tout de suite son image à l’écran et nous demandons son interception. Le camion était lancé à 90 km/h, sans phares, sans qu’on l’entende à cause du bruit. Il contourne le barrage de la police municipale. Les équipes n’ont pas pu l’arrêter. On ne crève pas les pneus d’un 19 tonnes avec un revolver! A ce moment-là, d’autres policiers municipaux sont en civil dans la foule, qui se retrouvent face à lui. S’ils avaient été armés comme nos collègues de la police nationale, une de nos revendications, ils auraient pu le stopper. Le poids-lourd se retrouve finalement face aux policiers nationaux, qui tirent et le neutralisent. Il est 22h34.

So she basically says that the truck's terror ride began at 22:33 and ended at 22:34. Two days later, Le Monde published excerpts of her report, leaked by the national police and causing confusion at the newspaper.

Le premier policier cité est national, et il court après le véhicule : « Vingt-deux heures trente-cinq minutes et quinze secondes : visualisons un agent de la police nationale à pied courir derrière le camion. » Puis c’est au tour immédiatement d’un agent municipal : « Vingt-deux heures trente-cinq minutes et vingt secondes : visualisons un agent de la police municipale à pied courir derrière le camion ; le véhicule se situe alors à l’intersection de la promenade des Anglais et de la rue Meyerbeer. » C’est-à-dire au niveau du premier point de contrôle tenu par la police nationale.

The said intersection (Promenade des Anglaises/Rue Meyerbeer) is exactly the location captured in the Gutjahr video, i.e not far away from the final position of the truck. But there is a yawning 32-minutes discrepancy between Bertin's 22:35 and Gutjahr's 23:07.

So what's going on here? It's Bertin vs. Gutjahr. We have a 22:30+- version and a 23:00+- version. It appears that one of them must be utterly wrong. This is most astonishing because Gutjahr is a professional journalist and Bertin is a professional video analyst.

One circumstance might help to clarify the confusion: the fireworks. All media reports and private statements agree that the attack occured shortly after the fireworks ended, ranging from five to fifteen minutes afterwards. The determination of the end of the fireworks might verify either Gutjahr or Bertin.

Gutjahr himself says that the fireworks lasted from 22:15 to 23:00. However, there is a video of the complete fireworks which lasts only 18 minutes. Gutjahr probably included the preparations and made a rather rough estimation.

Additionally, between 22:00 and 22:30 dusk fell over Nice. At 22:00 the sky was still too bright to start the fireworks. Gutjahr's 22:15 seems to be a reasonable lower bound for the begin of the fireworks. Adding the 18 minutes duration of the fireworks video and the 5 minutes minimum until the attack delivers a lower bound of 22:38 for the attack. The fireworks were certainly finished before 23:00, so Gutjahr's 23:07 is a reasonable upper bound for the attack.

The bulk of evidence seems to validate Gutjahr and falsify Bertin. But Bertin's report is most detailed and based on primary evidence - the surveillance videos - so it looks odd that she could be so wrong.

Or is it possible that both Gutjahr and Bertin are right; that they are talking about different incidences; and that the official narrative has to be rewritten? If so, Le Monde sits on a bombshell and ought to tell the public more about Bertin's terror timeline - soon.


Update: In a recent interview, Richard Gutjahr all of a sudden has changed the time data of his early reports: now he claims he filmed the truck at 22:35 when the fireworks were still ongoing.

Having initially wanted to produce a Snapchat story of the festivities, Gutjahr was stood on his hotel balcony filming the fireworks at 10:35pm when he noticed people running and screaming in the street below him.

"I saw something was wrong – something just didn't fit the image," he said.

"I happened to have my camera in my hand because I was still Snapchatting the fireworks, so not knowing what to expect, I turned the camera from vertical view to the horizontal position and used the phone's regular camera to film. I didn't want this to be on Snapchat."

It is absolutely certain however that the fireworks were finished when he took the famous video footage. First, there is no firework noise audible in the video. Second, there is a video of the end of the fireworks showing that no panic has erupted at this point. Third, it is known from another video that a rock band was playing just when the truck plowed through the crowd - the band certainly didn't start before the fireworks were finished.

So why did Gutjahr change his account?

TEL AVIV – A former congresswoman spread the lie on Twitter that Israel played a role in both the Nice and Munich terror attacks, based on the detail that an Israeli photographer was present at the scene of both incidents.
Cynthia McKinney, a Democrat and former member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Georgia, who has made disparaging remarks about Jews in the past, tweeted: “Same Israeli photographer captures Nice and Munich tragedies. How likely is that? Remember the Dancing Israelis?…”

A video accompanying the tweet claims that Richard Gutjahr, a German journalist married to former Israeli Knesset member Einat Wilf, took photos of the carnage perpetrated by a truck-driving terrorist in Nice earlier this month as well as the shooting in a Munich mall that left nine German teenagers dead.

The video’s narrator claims that Gutjahr’s pictures prove that “Nice is a false flag and Munich is either a false flag or a hoax” and “Israel set this guy up.”

However, as the Times of Israel points out, Gutjahr does not have Israeli citizenship and his Twitter profile features no photos from Munich.

“The fact that this guy happened to be at both, there’s no way it’s a coincidence,” the narrator says, adding that it’s “100% clear that Israel’s fingerprints are all over these events.”

New World Agenda, which uploaded the video, features an illuminati symbol on the opening shots of many of its videos. On the user’s YouTube channel, the video appears alongside scores of conspiracy theories, including the claim that Omar Mateen, the terrorist behind the Pulse nightclub shooting, is an actor and the shooting was a hoax.

McKinney’s mention of “Dancing Israelis” is a reference to a debunked conspiracy theory regarding the alleged arrest of five Israeli men caught dancing in a New Jersey park on the day of the 9/11 attacks.

Nice authorities have turned down the request of French anti-terrorist police to delete footage from surveillance cameras and any other videos which captured the fatal truck attack on Bastille Day.

The request was sent by Anti-Terrorist Sub-Directorate (SDAT), a special police division battling extremism, to the mayor of Nice’s office on Wednesday, according to the paper.

"This is the first time we’ve been asked to destroy evidence [from the attack],” a source close to the city authorities said. “The CCTV center and the city of Nice could be prosecuted for this… Also the officers in charge of the cameras don’t have jurisdiction to engage in such operations.”

Le Figaro managed to obtain the copy of the document in which SDAT, citing articles of the criminal and penal codes, demands the city authorities delete “completely” nearly 24 hours of the attack captured on cameras on the Promenade des Anglais.

“Delete the recordings between July 14, 2016 22:30 and July 15, 2016 18:00,” the documents demands.

The anti-terrorist police named six cameras which recordings should be “particularly” deleted. Plus the city authorities should delete any footage from any camera “that captured the crime scene”, the paper added.

Le Figaro reported that the day after the attack police demanded from the city authorities to recover 30,000 hours of CCTV-related events. A backup operation is reportedly ongoing and will take place for several days. Le Figaro source said that the authorities are concerned for the safety of the backup operation with this new demand.

The Prosecutor’s Office in Paris later confirmed the information to Le Figaro, saying that the demand had been made “to prevent the uncontrolled distribution of the images [of the attack].” The office added that “of thousands of surveillance cameras” in Nice, at least 140 of them contain “interesting” elements regarding the attack.

Anti-terrorist police, however, claim that their experts have managed to recover 100 percent of the information from Nice cameras.

On Friday, Nice Matin newspaper reported that the local mayor had refused to answer the call. According to his lawyer, Philippe Blanchetier, the municipality will even ask the prosecutor to keep these pictures "in order not to jeopardize with any other procedures that may emerge beyond the investigation.”

Since the murderous attack in Nice on July 14, numerous photos and videos have emerged in media showing police approaching and shooting at the truck, which plowed into a crowd of spectators, or depicting the aftermath of the Bastille Day assault.

Having good reasons not to believe the authenticity of many recent attacks and seeing what appears to be a CPR dummy in the very first footage of the aftermath taken from Nice it is hard not to conclude at least a similarity to some recent and very blatant fake attacks including those which are genuine but fabricated from the inside.


The possibility of combining both real casualties with fake ones is worth considering if the objective includes the obfuscation of evidence. There appears to be a tendency from the perpetrators of psy-ops to wait for what the alternative media begins pointing at, and then fabricate evidence accordingly.

2 of the locations mostly photographed and filmed with bodies are a and b (which by the way are more than 1 kilometer appart) while the truck stops at location c under a hundred meters ahead of b.

A lot of explaining would have to be done in a world where the truth matters at all.



Notice the man with one arm clean and clearly detached from the bloodied torso. Is it an compressed artifact from the video? Perhaps.
During these attacks there are obvious problems such as the ratio of deaths to those injured, the ratio purported by the media so far would be consistent only with airplane disasters where injured survivors are the minority. Moreover the amount of blood marks and damage to the front of the lorry truck is inconsistent with even far fewer victims hit at 100 km/h.
I will not go into detail because while the above is not conclusive, having already concluded fabrication and inside job from even the very recent Orlando, Brussels and Paris attacks something more important is at stake.

Rather I want to show that perhaps the conclusion of the specific attack is less important than the effect it has on those truly responsible to serve and protect.
It is unfortunate that for the last couple of decades me and countless others lay or retired officials have had the moral obligation to denounce something that the official authorities should be truly engaging in, and the fact that there are reasons to doubt their efficiency and accountability is a tragedy in itself.
This tragic situation leads to more suspicion and in turn less moral incentive for those concerned to fulfill their mission to inform, protect and serve.

This, at least to me, is not surprising since as a premise I see this as a fallen, ever more fragmenting world (but don't despair, this dark background makes the good shine with more contrast even if less of it).
The most loathed target to destroy is the good, the true, the beautiful and the life, this sounds corny until you realize that these are usually well known faces of God by many religions and philosophies, one understanding of God is that He is not mocked and, to the horror of all of us humans: ultimately just.

The enemy in many instances appears to be nothing but a natural consequence of humanity being fascinated by the opposites: The evil, the lies, the horrible and the death evident in what abounds in most popular media, a media increasingly pressured to lure consumers and sell a cheaper product since almost all of it is freely available for stealing.

What conspiracy theorists are loathed for is the same in those who hate them, they are becoming that horrible face at which they are staring, those who are not into conspiracy theories are only a little worst, Medusa has already mesmerized them into a stone that doesn't want to be bothered.

The exception to this are those who heed to a call that I am increasingly convinced is the only way out:

The truth is better at exposing the lies rather than collecting and analyzing lies, especially today when there are so many and frequent, one is drowned without a lamp to shine on them and scatter them out like cockroaches.
