Amber Rudd is refusing to say if the Parsons Green suspect was known to police a day after Donald Trump said the bomber was 'in the sights of Scotland Yard'.
Yesterday the US president embarrassingly claimed police were aware of the suspect before the explosion, which injured 30 people.
But today the home secretary would not be budged on whether counter terror officials had information on the attacker.
Trump tweeted: 'Another attack in London by a loser terrorist.These are sick and demented people who were in the sights of Scotland Yard. Must be proactive!'
He later walked back on his controversial comments, tweeting: 'Our hearts and prayers go out to the people of London, who suffered a vicious terrorist attack'
When asked during an interview if it was concerning the suspect might have been already known to Scotland Yard, Mrs Rudd said: 'It's much too early to say that, we have one arrest and we have an going operation.'
But then she added: 'When we have more information, we will be sharing it.'
The US President took to social media within hours of the attack to claim the suspect was 'in the sights of Scotland Yard'.
He said: 'Another attack in London by a loser terrorist. These are sick and demented people who were in the sights of Scotland Yard. Must be proactive!'
His comments angered the Prime Minister who said: 'I never think it's helpful for anybody to speculate on what is an ongoing investigation.'
She later challenged the president in person when he called her to discuss the case.
Today Mrs Rudd described the arrest of the 18-year-old man as 'very significant' but would not respond to journalists questions about if Scotland Yard held information about him beforehand.
She said: 'The operation is ongoing.'
Investigators - who it is understood are linking the attack to Islamist extremism - are continuing their probe and the threat level remains at critical, which means a further attack is feared to be imminent.
The country's top counter-terrorism officer indicated that a potential network of plotters could have been involved.
A Scotland Yard spokesman criticised Mr Trump, saying: 'The comments are unhelpful and pure speculation. If anyone has got any evidence or information, please contact the anti-terrorism hotline.'
Although Mr Wallace said this morning that although it was 'not helpful to have a running commentary on a live investigation' he said about Trump's later tweets: 'I saw his follow-up statements. I think his sentiment was that the international community stands together in facing this threat.
'I think we can take that as being a good thing.'
Keith Simpson, a Tory member of the Intelligence and Security Committee ahead of the election, last night told MailOnline Mr Trump's tweets would alarm some in Britain who could fear the security services knew of the plot and let it go ahead.
He said: 'Frankly, I don't know if that's the case.
'There will now be some interesting conversations going on between senior people in the Cabinet Office and the Trump Administration.
'He's done this kind of thing before. I think Theresa May has come as near as possible to say don't be so stupid.
'This is part and parcel of the way he deals with politics.'

Michael Perry, 29, a medical student who was at Parsons Green, said: "Alex had a massive scrape and bleeding and a contusion on his forehead where he had been knocked forward, as well as gashes on his tummy and side where he had been stepped on."

Anyone who had lived in central London for the last two decades had been psychologically or psychically attacked by an invisible atmosphere of fear reggarding bomb or terrorist attacks.
After twenty years of bomb attacks the only terrorist presence I was able to perceive everyday was the Police, the CID, and the Intelligence Services interpenetrating my life in all possible aspects.

Okay... I was just suppose to bomb a flight from Astana, to Amsterdam to Manchester on the morning 6th September. (Amsterdam to Manchester would make sense... ICTS security). They (Israel) planted a bomb in my laptop on the flight in (Amsterdam), and expected me to board the flight two weeks, one day later... then after my passport was stolen (silly I know), they tailed me around Astana and tried getting me to buy a ticket Astana to Istanbul to Manchester... I flew direct Air Astana over Russian airspace to London...I should have done it by train.
This 'attack' (whether a warning or failure) was a message to UK Government by Israel/CIA... this did not have the backing British Intelligence.

Hi...yes that was mentioned by a friend of mine - but am unsure if it was price tag or a clothes label ?
And would that be one of her party/helpers stood by her in the "on the phone" image ?
I also think that perhaps one or two are stood by a building when she takes a walk for the cameras - they're always there. At the Bataclan play, they were obvious - in the back street....two or three positioned around - with one leaving and then re-entering the building to direct the kids (on cue) out of the door - they even had someone on a roof waving a laser pen.
I find that this Parsons act "has" been noticed as odd by many that wouldn't ordinarily question the official narrative - not openly, but when put on the spot with the extremely obvious...as "how is it that an explosion that happens to cause physical injury leaves absolutely no visible signs of any explosion occuring" - they do look with some understanding.
Was a complete botch of a job - so does makes me wonder, if this staged event didn't somehow go according to plan.....or are they just that assured of themselves they dont give a damn - and can so brazenly mock.

Ref: The still frame of the video I took on the platform at Parsons Green - this was filmed a couple of minutes after the stampede. The staircase was blocked so many of us remained on the platform once it was clear there was no further danger. Just been talking with a friend who,s knows a woman who had to sign a release document / form @ her daughters school that permitted the school to hold the kids in a room whilst away on a school trip in case of an emergency.& this was PRIOR to their trip to London where they became involved in the London Borought Terror Hoax & guess what..they had to be hidden in a restaurant for their own safety..it may be normal protocol on a school trip 2 have these kinds of forms for adult consent on behalf of the parents but I find it very strange that this was particularly saying about placing them in a room for their own safety ....will try & get more info..
