The Nazis were the result of a merging of the O.T.O of Crowley and the Thule Gesselschaft of Germany. It is presumably for this reason that Hitler, when he wished to create an arm of German Intelligence in Egypt, contacted a leading Salafi and Freemason, named Hasan al Banna. With the demise of the Nazis following WWII, control of the organization was transferred to the CIA. In 1954, after it was discovered that the Muslim Brotherhood was responsible for an attack on his life, President Gamal Nasser of Egypt ordered a crackdown. Fleeing members of the Muslim Brotherhood were then shuttled to the CIA’s ally, Saudi Arabia.

The Salafi movement has since come to be spearheaded by Saudi Arabia, and identified as one and the same as the heresy of Wahhabism. Wahhabism was created by the British, in the eighteenth century to undermine the Ottoman Empire, and to achieve Western control of the world’s primary oil resource. Today, the promotion of Wahhabism is part of a larger Western agenda, involving the CIA, to denigrate Islam. According to William Engdahl, it was Henry Kissinger who orchestrated the Oil Crisis of 1973. The subsequent wealth achieved by Saudi Arabia then served as a hidden slush fund for CIA covert operations.

When John Loftus, a Justice Department official in the eighties, was permitted to peruse classified government documents, he discovered that the British Secret Service convinced American intelligence that the Arab Nazis of the Muslim Brotherhood would be indispensable as “freedom fighters” in preparation for the next major war, which was anticipated against the Soviet Union.

And so, when the Americans wished to lure the Soviets into their own version of Vietnam, they did so by funding factions of the Muslim Brotherhood in Afghanistan. Financed and coordinated through the assistance of the Pakistani secret service, the ISI, it became the largest CIA covert operation in history.

It was all part of the larger the Iran-Contra Operation. Through the devious activities of the Aspen Institute and the Club of Rome, in collaboration with the Muslim Brotherhood, British agent the Ayatollah Khomeini was installed in Iran. The Americans then began illegally trading arms with the country, proceeds of which were used to fund the right-wing Contra thugs of Nicargua, in return for cocaine which sparked America's crack epidemic. These funds, in addition to growing heroin trade in Afghanistan, were used to fund the US's covert war in Afghanistan.

Through this strategy, not only did the Americans succeed in bankrupting the Soviet Union, but they also managed to create a budding network of Islamic terrorists, brainwashed in the radical ideologies of Wahhabism and Salafism, who dispersed across the world, and who were then blamed as responsible for the great false flag operation known as 9/11, which allowed its hidden planners to embark on their War on Terror, Samuel Huntington's "Clash of Civilizations", or the beginnings of Pike's WWIII.

The Evening Standard and the Independent have been explicitly accused by the British government of being part-owned by the Saudi Arabian state, with a series of “unconventional, complex and clandestine” deals used to hide the sale of stakes in the London-based news outlets to a Saudi government bank.

Evgeny Lebedev, who controls both publications, sold 30% stakes in them to offshore companies fronted by a Saudi businessman, Sultan Mohamed Abuljadayel, in 2017 and 2018. The Standard and the Independent say they are unsure who ultimately employs the businessman.

David Scannell, the government’s legal representative, told a court on Tuesday that the Saudi Arabian government could now potentially exert editorial influence over the news outlets, said the sale of the shares has “national security implications”, and accused Lebedev of going out of his way to avoid answering questions about the deals.

“What is of concern to Her Majesty’s government is that a foreign state could be acquiring a substantial stake in Lebedev Holdings [owner of the Evening Standard] and the Independent simultaneously,” he said.

The culture secretary, Jeremy Wright, last month announced an investigation into the sales, warning that the ultimate investor may have “strong links to the Saudi Arabian state” and raising fears that a foreign government may have gained influence over the news direction of two major British publications.

The decision to intervene is highly political. The heavily lossmaking free London newspaper is edited by the former Conservative chancellor, George Osborne, who has let it be known that he would consider a return to frontline politics.

In addition, the incoming Conservative prime minister, Boris Johnson – who could influence the direction of the inquiry – has refused to answer questions from the Guardian about his attendance at parties held at Lebedev’s Italian castle.

Wright previously said the Saudi investment deals “may have an effect on the Evening Standard and the Independent’s news agendas”. The Independent has already launched a series of foreign-language websites run and staffed by Saudi journalists and aimed at audiences in some of the nation’s regional rivals.

Saudi Arabia has a poor record on press freedom and the sale of the stake in the Evening Standard’s parent company took place in the aftermath of the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, widely considered to have been carried out by by Saudi officials.

Both the Independent and Evening Standard insist concerns about editorial independence are unfounded and they are not influenced by financial backers.

Lebedev’s lawyers are fighting to stop the government investigating the Saudi investment on a technicality, arguing that the government waited too long and missed the deadline to intervene.

In response, the government says its decision was delayed, in part, because both Lebedev and the Saudi investors refused to provide key information.

A hearing of the competition appeal tribunal also heard that the Evening Standard and Independent investments had been made through two separate Cayman Islands-registered companies called Scalable Inc and International Media Company, a process that helped obscure the true investor.

Each of these two companies was in turn 50% owned by Abuljadayel and 50% by Wondrous Investments, itself ultimately controlled by Saudi Arabia’s state-controlled National Commercial Bank.

“These brass-plaque companies were incorporated for the express purpose of obscuring the true acquirers,” said Scannell, acting for the government. “Our understanding is that the bank is owned and controlled by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

Asked whether Abuljadayel was employed by the Saudi investment bank, lawyers for the Evening Standard and Independent referred to previous news articles and said: “It’s certainly been reported as such.”

When pressed further on the Saudi individual’s ultimate employer, the lawyers said: “We’re not really in a position to assist on that.”

Lebedev’s lawyers also argued that the government should have started investigating earlier because the investment had been covered in the Financial Times and the Guardian.

Lebedev has close ties to Saudi Arabia, posing on his Instagram with Saudi-backed militias in Yemen. The Independent editor, Christian Broughton, has visited the Saudi capital to meet business partners.

The legal challenge was only against the decision to refer the Saudi investment to the Competition Commission on merger grounds.

The culture secretary has separately asked the media regulator, Ofcom, to investigate any public interest concerns and report back by mid-August. The Guardian understands this report will be produced regardless of the court ruling.

Television and Radio
ITV - Jewish Controlled
It had always supposedly been a principle of ITV, since its foundation in 1955, that unlike the BBC, each company involved could only hold a franchise to broadcast to a single region and that these
franchises were to be reviewed every couple of years. But in 1993, the Jew Michael Green, who is the founder and Chairman of Carlton Communications plc, along with the Jewish Saatchi brothers of the advertising giants Saatchi and Saatchi, aggressively campaigned to have the independence of the ITV regions abolished, with the Government agreeing. At present, the ITV network is divided into
fourteen regions, all of which are controlled by two Jewish controlled companies, Carlton Communications plc and Granada plc, except for the less populous regions of Scotland, Ulster and the Channel Islands. Carlton controls Central, London, West Country and HTV Wales and West: while Granada controls Anglia, Border, Granada, London Weekend, Meridian, Tyne Tees and Yorkshire.
In April 2001, Carlton Communications plc and Granada plc announced proposals for partnership in a new ITV company, which will put the entire ITV network under the control of a single Jewish controlled ITV company. New Labour have announced, May 2002, that present laws which would prohibit such a merger are to be changed in their Communications Bill. The new company will simply have control of ITV, ITV2, and a new ITV Sport Channel. Michael Green, the Jewish Chairman of Carlton Communications plc, boasted of the new monopoly that: "ITV will now leapfrog the BBC and Sky with this new partnership. A combined free-to-air and pay television audience of 50 million
viewers a week offering entertainment, the Internet and e-commerce is a world first." Steve Morrison, the Jewish Chief Executive of Granada plc, commented: "This agreement will fuel the growth and evolution of ITV and unlock the full potential of our assets in the digital age. ITV's strong content brands, like Coronation Street, Popstars, Survivor and Who Wants to be a Millionaire? will be exploited across all channels, making ITV the home of entertainment for everyone, everywhere." As things are, each of the companies broadcasts to 26 million people, half of the country, or more.

Carlton Communications plc - Jewish Controlled
The Jew Michael Philip Green is the founder and Chairman of Carlton Communications plc, floated on the London Stock Exchange in February 1983, and has a personal "salary" of £892,000 and a personal fortune of £124 million. Carlton has a turnover of £2.1 billion, and in A. D. 2000 reported pre-tax profits of £342m, while Green has a "salary" of £892,000 per year and a staff of 3000. Carlton is a media company, dealing in free and pay television, the making and distribution of programmes, as well as in interactive television and the internet. It owns over 40 per cent of the ITV network, which is by far the UK's largest commercial broadcaster, and thereby presently broadcasts to 26 million people in the United Kingdom.
Its ITV channels are:
Central, London, West Country and HTV Wales and HTV West. Its Carlton Channels division also includes 50% of London News Network, 25% of GMTV and 20% of ITN. Carlton Productions is a major producer for ITV, producing drama, entertainment, factual, factual entertainment, comedy and children's titles, investing over £200m a year in producing new television programmes for ITV, BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5 and digital channels. It includes the producer Planet 24, responsible for Gay Time TV, and the supplier of game show formats Action Time. Carlton International controls and sells a library of 2,000 films and 18, 000 hours of television programmes to over 100 countries. Carlton America produces seventeen films for television each year. According to the Media Guardian, July 16, 2001: "His future power is inextricably linked to the future of ITV, which will become a single company in the not too distant future." He was quoted in the Jewish Chronicle as declaring that: "I am very aware of being Jewish." Kosher TV.
ITN - Jewish Controlled
Green is also Director of ITN, which provides the news for the ITV network, of GMTV Limited and of Thomson multimedia in France. He is also Chairman of the Media Trust. Kosher TV.
Granada plc - Jewish Controlled
In the year ending 30th September 2000, Granada plc had a turnover of £5,447 million and made operating profits of £123 million. Like its partner Carlton Communications plc, Granada is a media company, dealing in television broadcasting and production, pay and digital TV. The company owns seven of the ITV stations: Anglia, Border, Granada, London Weekend, Meridian, Tyne Tees and Yorkshire. It broadcasts to 60% of Britain's homes. Its other ITV investments are ITN (20%), GMTV (25%), London News Network (50%), and the Scottish Media Group (18.1%), which controls Grampian, and Scottish. Granada Creative produces nearly 9000 hours of original television programmes and films per year, which it sells to more than 120 countries and makes in five countries worldwide. It made 60 % of the ITV Network's original programmes, in A. D. 2000, and 83 % of its best-rating ones.
The Jew Steve Morrison is Chief Executive of Granda plc. He joined Granada Television in 1974, was made Director of Programmes in 1987, and was appointed Managing Director of Granada in 1993, Managing Director of LWT in 1994, Chairman of the ITV Marketing Group and of Laser Sales in 1995, and Chief Operating Officer of Granada Media Group in 1996. He is also Governor of the National Film and Television School. He is set on permanent joint domination of the entire ITV network with his fellow Jew Michael Green. Kosher TV.
Anglia Television - Jewish Controlled
Also worthy of mention within the ITV network is Anglia Television, now part of the Granada Media Group. Broadcasting to the East of England, covering nine counties from the Wash to the Thames and westwards to Northamptonshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire, of which it is the most watched television channel, it has its own audience of over four million. However, as a producer, Anglia is the major provider of daytime and religious programmes for the entire ITV Network and also produces documentaries.
The Jew Graham Creelman has been Managing Director of Anglia Television since 1996. He is also Chairman of Anglia Multimedia, Chair of Eastern Screen, and Chair of East of England Cultural
Consortium. Before joining Anglia, he was a current affairs producer for BBC Television, and specialised in politics. Kosher TV.
BBC TV - Jewish Controlled
The present Director General of the BBC is Greg Dyke, who is thought to be a Shabbats Goy. He was appointed by the fanatically muliticulti New Labour Government, to which Party he had donated over £50, 000 in the preceding five years. He was previously Chairman of Pearson Broadcasting plc, who then owned Thames Television, and while there he left its day-to-day running to the Managing Director, the Jew Tony Cohen. Dyke is well known for his fanatical anti-white crusade. He complained during his interview on BBC Radio Scotland's The Mix show on January 7, 2001 that, "I think the BBC is hideously white." And I had thought it was hideously Jewish, like the rest of the world's media! He has made the negress Linda Mitchell Head of Diversity at the BBC, with the task of ensuring that the BBC fully reflects "the diversity of the United Kingdom" in its programmes and workforce. Dyke explained at a Race in the Media conference, that his crusade to enlarge the ethnic representation of the BBC is the "acid test" of his tenure. We do not think that Dyke has much to worry about on that score.
The Jew Alan Yentob is Director of Drama, Entertainment and Children's Programmes for all of BBC television with a personal staff of 1392 and a salary of £213,000. He formerly had the title of Director of Television from 1997 to 2000 and before that, Director of Programmes. According to Broadcast magazine in 1996, his former title gave him "control over all non-news BBC programmes including those for satellite channels and those in English for the World Service." Judging by his new title, one does not suppose much has changed. He is a close personal friend of the Jew Michael Green who owns Carlton plc and of the Jew Michael Grade, Chairman of Pinewood-Shepperton Limited, whom we shall meet soon. They holidayed together in the Caribbean and, together with the Jew Charles Saatchi, are referred to by insiders as the "St. John's Wood Mafia". For good measure the atheist Jew, Alan Bookbinder was appointed the BBC's new Head of Religion and Ethics in July 2001.
The BBC, like the rest of the supposedly British media, is fully geared to the all-out promotion of "multiculturalism". Its Producers' Guidelines specify to its potential programme producers that: "People from all groups should be represented in the full range of our programmes. [...] BBC programmes should not categorise black people as criminals. [...] Colour should be mentioned only when it is relevant. Ask yourself each time: would you say "white" in similar circumstances? [...] Programmes must not allow offensive assumptions or generalisations in scripted material, and interviewees who express them need to be challenged wherever possible. [...] BBC programmes
must not be vehicles for prejudice. Lesbians and gay men can be particularly subject to thoughtless and offensive stereotyping. [...] Programmes must not allow offensive assumptions or generalisations in scripted material, and interviewees who express them need to be challenged with vigour. [...] Be sensitive to the effect of language. 'Homosexual' has wide currency. 'Gay and lesbian' is often preferred and is certainly acceptable."
BBC Radio - Jewish Controlled
The Jewess Jenny Abramsky is Director of BBC Radio and Music and has control of all of BBC Radios 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Live, and of the BBC's digital radio operation. Abramsky is the most powerful executive in radio in the UK, public service or commercial: with control of the five national radio stations she oversees 49% of all radio listening in Britain. She has an annual programming budget of £290 million, a staff of 600 and takes home £258, 000. She has spent over 30 years in BBC Radio, only taking a two-year break as Director of the BBC Continuous News Services. Abramsky has also been a Governor of the British Film Industry since February 2000. The BFI Annual Review for
the year 1999-2000 states: "We embarked on a series of initiatives to establish cultural diversity as a core value across the BFI". They have established the Towards Visibility campaign as part of
their "cultural diversity strategy". She received the accolade of "Woman of Distinction" from Jewish Care in 1990.
BSkyB - Jewish Controlled
British Sky Broadcasting is also a significant television broadcaster in the United Kingdom, and a part of the global media empire, News Corporation, of the Jew Rupert Murdoch, son of Elizabeth Green who was the daughter of a wealthy Jewish family. His rise in the media business has been due to the financial support of the Jews Oppenheimer, Bronfman, Armand Hammer and the Jewish Rothschild empire.
The satellite broadcasting arm of the Jew Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation, Sky Global Networks, includes the lion's share of British Sky Broadcasting. British Sky Broadcasting is Britain's leading pay-TV provider and one of the world's top 250 companies. It broadcasts news, entertainment and sports programmes to over 10 million subscribers and their families in the Britain and Ireland, which includes five and half million subscribers to its digital satellite service, which was launched in 1998 with 140 channels. By 1999, satellite and cable television channels accounted for over 15% of total UK viewing. Murdoch has spoken of "my faith and News Corporation's faith in the integrity and worthiness of the Zionist undertaking", and has explained that, "I have always believed in the future of Israel and the goals of the international Jewish community." 'American' Satellite Broadcasters - Jewish Controlled
The other leading media bosses in the world all broadcast some channels into Britain via satellite: the Jew Gerald Levin, the Chief Executive Officer of AOL-Time Warner, the leading media conglomerate in the world with sales of £18 billion in the first two quarters of 2001, and 133 million subscribers; the Jew Michael Eisner, Chairmen and Chief Executive Officer of Disney, another world leading media conglomerate, with a turnover of $25 billion; and the Jew Sumner Rothstein ("Redstone"), Chairman and Chief Executive of Viacom, also a world leading media conglomerate with a turnover of $20 billion. Pinewood-Shepperton Limited - Jewish Controlled
Pinewood-Shepperton Limited is the result of the merger of Britain's two leading film and television production studios, Pinewood and Shepperton into a single company. Pinewood was built in the l930s by J. Arthur Rank and was the home of many "classic" British films. It is Europe's leading production facility and has been at the front of international production for over 60 years, presently providing studio facilities for producers of feature films, commercial and television programmes. Shepperton has also been in operation since the 1930s and over 600 films have been made here, including many British "classics". It is the second largest production studio in Britain, hosting high profile television programmes and providing facilities and stages for hundreds of commercials a year.
Pinwood-Shepperton is controlled by the Jew Michael Grade. Grade is the nephew of the Jew Lew Grade, also a film producer and one of the founders of the ITV network. Micahel Grade was formerly Controller of BBC 1 in 1984, Director of BBC Programmes in 1986, and as Chief Executive of Channel 4 from 1988 to 1997, he was dubbed "pornographer-in-chief" by the Daily Mail. He is now Executive Chairman of Pinewood and Shepperton Studios, Executive Chairman of Pinewood-Shepperton
Limited, Chairman of Hemscott plc, Chairman of the Octopus Publishing Group and in October 2001 was made Chairman of Camelot. The Jew Grade purchased Pinewood Studios from the Rank Group plc for £62 million in February 2000 A. D. He was backed by the investment trust "3i", paying £55.5 million in cash and £6.5 million in a loan note, repayable in 2007. In February 2001 he paid £35 million for the rival Shepperton Studios, again backed by "3i", and while the studios continue to operate under their old names, they are now merged into a single company as Pinewood-Shepperton, valued at over $144 million.

The Cultural Diversity Network
We have already seen the pro-multicultural policies of the Jewish controlled BBC, whereby "the full range" of their programmes are constantly to be used as instruments for the promotion of "multiculturalism". Although the Jews have been using their control of the media to transform Britain for decades, the so-called Campaign for Racial Equality stated in April 2001 that: "British TV bosses plan to
revolutionise the way new television programmes are developed in the future, putting diversity right at the heart of the creative process." They quoted the Chairman of the CDN as explaining as the
purpose of the Network as follows: "Britain is changing. And British television needs to change too. We are becoming an increasingly multiracial, multicultural society. [.] The new Commissioning Clause will make diversity one of the standard criteria against which new programme proposals are judged. I fully expect it will change the face of television as we know it." In other words, all of the Jewish controlled broadcasters in Britain are committed to constantly and systematically using all of their programmes to promote a multiracial, "multicultural" transformation of Britain, against the

Express Newpapers - Jewish Controlled
Express Newspapers owns the Daily Express, the Sunday Express and the Daily Star, all of which have a national circulation. The Daily express had an average daily circulation of 927, 785 in the six
months to April 2002, being Britain's second leading mid-market paper, after the Daily Mail. The Sunday Express had an average circulation of 842, 003 in the same period, and the Daily Star 828,
823. All together Express Newspapers distributes an average 13 million newspapers in Britain per week.
Express Newpapers was bought in November 2000 by Northern and Shell, all owned by the Jew Richard Desmond. Desmond is a "Porno King" who made his personal fortune of £150 million selling pornography, which shows the sort of filth who are allowed to control the media in Britain. He also owns the porno magazines "Big Ones" and "Asian Babes", as well as the porno satellite stations "Television X" and "The Fantasy Channel" and perverted "sex" sites on the internet.
Such filth are quite celebrities in Zionist Occupied Britain: he has been to tea with the Queen, and the Duke of Edinburgh officially opened the Docklands HQ of his porno company. He donated £100,000 to Blair's Jew Labour in return for them not opposing his acquisition of Express Newspapers, which is small fry compared to the £30 million "raised" for Jew Labour by the Jew "Lord" Levi "moneybags", as he is known, who effectively owns the Party. News International - Jewish Controlled
The Jew Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation owns News International, which owns the Sun, the Times, the Sunday Times and News of the World, all of which have a national circulation. In the six months to October 2001, News of the World had an average daily circulation of 4,042,714 and the Sun of 3,507,176, being the two best selling daily papers in Britain with a joint average daily circulation of over 7.5 million copies, with perhaps twice that many people actually reading them. The Sunday Times had an average weekly circulation of 1,383,683, being the best selling Sunday broadsheet, and the Times a daily circulation of 717,657, being the second best selling daily broadsheet. Altogether, News International distributes over 50 million newspapers a week in Britain.
The Telegraph Group - Zionist Controlled
Another major newspaper group in Britain is the Telegraph Group Limited, which is owned by Hollinger International Inc. In 2000, Hollinger sold its major Canadian newspapers for US$2.1 billion to CanWest Global Communications Corporation, which is owned the Jew Israel Asper, who alone owns over 60% of Canada's newspapers and other media outlets, including 14 metropolitan dailies and 128 local newspapers across that country. However, Hollinger still has dozens of papers in the US. The Chicago Sun Times and the Telegraph newspapers are its main assets. It also owns the Jerusalem Post, the Jerusalem Report, Shaar Lamatchil (Israel), This Week in Israel, the Student Post (Israel), and the "Christian Jerusalem Post". Its Telegraph Group owns the Daily Telegraph, the Sunday Telegraph, the Weekly Telegraph, the Spectator magazine as well as other, lesser media interests, including the Saturday Telegraph, all of which named newspapers have a national circulation. In the six months to October 2001, the Daily Telegraph had a daily circulation of 1,023,510, being the best selling broadsheet in Britain, ahead of the Jew Murdoch's Times; and the Sunday Telegraph a had weekly circulation of 812,613, being the second best selling Sunday broadsheet, after the Jew Murdoch's Sunday Times. The Spectator magazine had an average weekly sale in the six months to 30-Jun-2001 of 60,776. Altogether, the Telegraph Group distributes about 7 million papers a week. Hollinger International lost £99 million in the third quarter.
The Telegraph Group and Hollinger International belong to the openly Shabbat Goy, the Canadian Conrad Black, Chief Executive Officer of Hollinger. Mrs Black is the Jewess Barbara Amiel. Conrad Black is a raving Zionist as well as "still the third biggest newspaper magnate in the world" according to the Media Guardian. In the 24 February, 2001 edition of the Spectator, one of his writers dared to criticise "Israel's" treatment of Palestinian civilians, provoking Black to a tactical Zionist rage, to which Lord Gilmour responded as follows: "A few weeks ago, Taki, one of The Spectator's columnists, wrote a wholly innocuous column in which, referring to Israel, he talked about "those nice guys who attack rock- throwing youths with armour-piercing missiles." [.] [Black] decided to write an article in The Spectator fatuously accusing Taki of being anti-Semitic, and alleging that what he had written was "almost worthy of Goebbels". Black referred to the Palestinians in his Jerusalem Post in 1993 as "vile and primitive", while Mrs. Black, the Jewess Barbara Amiel likened them to "animals" in the November 7, 2000 edition of their
Telegraph. Conrad Black explained that, "If editors disagree with us they should disagree with us when they're no longer in our employ. The buck stops with ownership. I am responsible for meeting the payroll; therefore I will ultimately determine what the papers say and how they're going to be run." Kosher News.
Associated Newspapers - Jewish Controlled.
The "flag ship", national circulation newspaper of Associated Newspapers is the Daily Mail, which had an average daily circulation of 2,477,416 in the six months to October 2001, while the company
claims an actual daily readership of 5 million during the week and 6 million on Saturdays. It has a weekly circulation of around 15 million and is Britain's leading mid-market paper. The Managing

Conclusions
The Jews have an almost total grip on the media in Britain, systematically, constantly and intensely feeding their propaganda and example to almost everyone in Britain, which is nothing new. With

The coronavirus crisis has seen a resurgence in people turning to TV for their news, temporarily bucking the trend of longer-term decline in the face of online news sources.

People have been increasingly turning to trusted news sources during the pandemic, with TV viewing figures booming – along with traffic to news websites – as viewers tune in for the latest updates on the virus.

In the UK, just over half (55%) of respondents to this year’s Digital News Report said they used TV as a source of news in January, compared to more than three-quarters (77%) for online, including social media.

Both these figures rose in April, when the survey was carried out again, under lockdown, with TV climbing to 71% and online up slightly to 79%.

The Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism carried out its main survey of 40 countries in January/February, with sample sizes of about 2,000 adults each, for the annual report.

Then in April it carried out a separate survey to understand the impact of the pandemic on media consumption, covering just six nations: UK, USA, Germany, Spain, Argentina and South Korea, with sample sizes of about 2,000 for the UK and Germany and about 1,000 for the others.

Among the under-35s surveyed in April, more than half (57%) said they had used TV as a source of news in the last week – a rise of 25 percentage points on January – compared to 61% for social media, up 9%.



‘Trust halo’ may be short-lived
The report said: “Overall our April 2020 survey found the news media were considered to have done a good job in helping ordinary people understand the extent of the crisis (60%), and also in making clear what people can do personally to mitigate the impact (65%).”

Across the six countries surveyed for the report in April, 59% of respondents rated news organisations as trustworthy on Covid-19, on a par with national governments and behind scientists, doctors, and health organisations.

By contrast, just 26% said the same of social media and 24% of messaging apps, which both ranked lowest on trust.

In the six countries surveyed in April, more than four-in-ten (43%) accessed both social media for news and traditional media sources on a weekly basis, however.

The report said the parity between national governments and news organisations on trust perhaps reflected the way that media organisations “focused on amplifying government messages about health and social distancing” in the early stages of the crisis.



“As things return to normal, the media are likely to become more critical of government and this may in turn lead to a return of more partisan approaches to media trust,” it said.

“Consensus has already started to break down as normal activities resume and disagreements resurface about the best way to manage the recovery. Any ‘trust halo’ for the media may… be short-lived.”

But as the coronavirus broke out, the report said overall levels of trust in the news globally (across 40 countries) were at the lowest point since it had begun to track the data, with 38% saying they trust news overall.



In the UK alone this fell to 28%. The authors offered the explanation that “divided societies seem to trust the media less”, perhaps because news outlets “carry more views that people disagree with”.

In the last five years Britain has faced the Brexit vote and what the report described as a “toxic political campaign” in December 2019 that returned Boris Johnson and the Conservatives to power.

Splitting the UK sample of more than 2,000 adults by political leaning, only 15% of those on the left agreed with the statement: “I think you can
trust most news most of the time,” compared with 36% for the right.



Misinformation fears
The report said the seriousness of the Covid-19 crisis had “reinforced the need for reliable, accurate journalism”, but had “also reminded us how
open we have become to conspiracies and misinformation”.

More than half (56%) of those surveyed overall remain concerned about what is real and fake on the internet when it comes to news. In the UK, the figure was 63%, down seven percentage points on the year before.

Brazil was highest at 84% and Netherlands lowest at 32% of people who agreed with the statement: “Thinking about online news, I am concerned about what is real and what is fake on the internet.”

Twice as many people are concerned about social media (40%) as a source of misinformation compared with news websites (20%).



During the coronavirus crisis, conspiracy theories linking the virus to 5G networks and claiming it was developed in a Chinese military research facility were shared on social media.

Press Gazette has highlighted some of these as part of our Fight the Infodemic campaign, which launched earlier this month.

In the Digital News Report’s April survey, 37% of respondents said they had come across a lot or a great deal of misinformation about Covid-19 on social media and 32% said the same of messaging apps, like Whatsapp.

Domestic politicians are seen as most responsible (40%) for false and misleading information online, followed by political activists (14%), journalists (13%), ordinary people (13%), and foreign governments (10%).

Growth of paid content and donations
In the past year, more publishers have begun charging for online content. Although, the proportion of paywalled news titles in the UK remains small, with just 7% of 2,000 respondents saying they had paid for online news or accessed a paid-for online news service in the last year.

In the UK, 39% of respondents said they had access to The Times and 20% to The Telegraph, although this could include free trials.



While there has been concern over the “walled garden” of news that might exclude people on lower incomes, only 9% of UK respondents said they were concerned others would miss out on news from sources behind paywalls, compared with 24% in the US.

The report said: “Lower concern in the United Kingdom may be because of widespread availability of high-quality free news from the BBC News website, many widely read popular newspapers and digital-born titles, and titles like the Guardian, with its open donation model.”

The report revealed that The Guardian receives 42% of donations to newspapers in the UK, although most are one-off and average less than £15.



Quarter would miss local papers ‘a lot’
In the UK, a quarter (25%) of respondents said they would miss their local newspaper or news website “a lot” if it went out of business, compared with 39% in the US and 54% in Germany, where regional dailies are prized.

Said the report: “The value placed on local news seems to be partly related to the importance that countries place on their regions more generally – and the extent to which local politics matters.”

News with no political view preferred by most
Across all nine countries, the majority in each country say they prefer news with “no particular point of view”, the report found.

In the UK, 76% of respondents say they prefer news with “no point of view”, with just 13% for news that shares their point of view and 11% for those that challenge their point of view.

In the UK alone, a preference for news with no point of view is seen across TV news, social media and print newspapers.



By way of explanation, the report said: “Greater political polarisation has coincided with an explosion of low-cost internet publishing which in turn has led to the widespread availability of partisan opinions online.

“With news coverage increasingly commoditised, parts of the traditional
media have also focused more on strong and distinctive opinion as a way of attracting and retaining audiences.

“Some commentators have increasingly questioned the value of objective news in a world where people have ready access to news from so many different points of view, while others worry that social media and algorithms are encouraging echo-chambers and pushing communities apart.”

Smartphone usage continues to climb
Over two-thirds (69%) of people now use a smartphone for news on a weekly basis, the report found.

In the UK, smartphone use has climbed over the past seven years to become the dominant device to access news, overtaking desktop, with 62% of those surveyed saying they had used it for news in the last week.

Out of six countries, only Spain is higher at 72%. The US is at 58%.



Smart-speaker use for news continues to rise since they first appeared commercially in 2017. The survey found 19% of respondents now use them in the UK (not only for news), more than any other country.

News outlets have begun to develop bulletins and briefings for the medium.

Next 12 months ‘critical’ for future of news
The report said: “The Covid-19 crisis has clearly demonstrated the value of reliable trusted news to the public but also to policymakers, technology companies, and others who could potentially act to support independent news media.

“The creativity of journalists has also come to the fore in finding flexible ways to produce the news under extremely difficult circumstances.

“Fact-checking has become even more central to newsroom operations, boosting digital literacy more widely and helping to counter the many conspiracy theories swirling on social media and elsewhere.

“Publishers have also found innovative ways to display and interrogate data, just one of many format innovations that have helped audiences understand the background and the implications for each individual.

“The next 12 months will be critical in shaping the future of the news industry. Many news organisations go into this period clearer than ever about the value of their product even if the immediate outlook looks uncertain.”

UK Gov. awards £320 million tax-payer funded contract for ‘Covid-19 Media Propaganda Campaign’ which runs until April 2022

You don’t think things are going to go back to normal on the 21st June 2021 do you? The evidence is mounting to the contrary and the latest piece of the puzzle has cost the British tax-payer £320 million.

Previous pieces of the puzzle have come in the form of a document produced for the UK Government entitled ‘Summary of further modelling of easing of restrictions – Roadmap Step 2’, and a contract currently out for tender for the employment of ‘Covid Marshals’.



The former declares that a third wave is inevitable and that it will be the fault of children and those who refuse the experimental Covid-19 vaccines. Whilst the latter confirms that Covid Marshals will be employed from the 1st July 2021 until the end of January 2022 at the earliest, to the tune of £3 million of tax-payers money.

The latest evidence that things will not be returning to normal on the 21st June 2021 comes in the form of a contract which has been awarded to a single company, costing the British tax-payer £320 million. The contract has a start date of 1st April 2021 and is due to run until the 31st March 2022. It’s stated purpose? “The provision of Media buying services for COVID 19 campaigns.”.

2021 World Press Freedom Index: Journalism, the vaccine against disinformation, blocked in more than 130 countries

China (177th), which continues to take Internet censorship, surveillance and propaganda to unprecedented levels, is still firmly anchored among the Index’s worst countries, which are indicated in black on the World Press Freedom map. Right below China is the same trio of totalitarian countries that have historically occupied the bottom three places. Two are Asian: Turkmenistan (up 1 at 178th) and North Korea (up 1 at 179th). The third is African: Eritrea (down 2 at 180th). Regardless of their continent, these countries maintain absolute control over all news and information, enabling the first two to claim they had no Covid-19 cases and the third to maintain complete silence about the fate of 11 journalists who were arrested 20 years ago, some of whom have allegedly been held in metal containers in the middle of a desert.

The country that fell the furthest in 2021 was Malaysia (down 18 at 119th), where the problems include a recent “anti-fake news” decree allowing the government to impose its own version of the truth. Big descents were also registered by Comoros (down 9 at 84th) and El Salvador (down 8 at 82nd), where journalists have struggled to obtain state-held information about the government’s handling of the pandemic. Most of the 2021 Index’s biggest gains are in Africa. Burundi (up 13 at 147th), Sierra Leone (up 10 at 75th) and Mali (up 9 at 99th) have all seen significant improvements, including the release of four journalists with the independent Burundian media Iwacu, the repeal of a law criminalising press offences in Sierra Leone and a fall in the number of abuses in Mali.

The destruction of two important Gaza buildings housing 20 media outlets was both shocking and predictable. History shows that if the media aren't around to document Israel's war crimes, it's a lot easier for it to commit them.

On Tuesday, Israel bombed the 10-storey Al-Jawhara Tower, causing it to collapse. Before doing so, it had 'benevolently' warned that the airstrikes were coming. The following day, it bombed the 14-storey Al-Shorouk Tower, also giving warning it was going to do so.

Most reports have the buildings as evacuated before being levelled. But without these media offices, reporting on Israel's other war crimes will be left largely to what little media remain and citizen journalists.

The buildings were significant. A statement by the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) noted the Al-Jawhara building housed the offices of 13 media institutions and NGOs. And an advisory by the Committee to Protect Journalists noted that the Al-Shorouk building housed at least seven media outlets.

A further statement by the same committee said that the Israeli military had defended its bombing of the building via email, bizarrely claiming it had "acted within international law," alleging the Al-Jawhara building housed Hamas' intelligence and military offices, and saying the Al-Shorouk building was a base for Hamas' military intelligence offices and "infrastructure to communicate tactical-military information."

Just minutes after the Al-Shorouk building was destroyed, I spoke by phone with Shadi Ali, a producer who had worked there for ten years and was understandably devastated at what had happened. He told me of previous occasions when Israel had bombed the building, in 2009, 2012, and 2014.

"I was there in 2012. My office was on the 14th floor when it was hit at 6am. I was sleeping; I had only slept for one-and-a-half hours when it was hit by two missiles on the top floor," he told me. "When it was bombed in 2014, we had taken precautions and left it already. They struck the 15th floor, destroying it completely. Our floor became the top floor after that."

The building was on a main Gaza street, Omar Mukhtar, surrounded by residential apartment buildings. I asked whether he knew if there had been casualties this time. He replied, "We're waiting, because often they'll strike again soon after, knowing that people have come to search for casualties."

I've witnessed this tactic with my own eyes. In January 2009, while I was accompanying Palestinian Red Crescent medics, one of the bodies the medics retrieved was that of a Kiffah Lum Towwak, 35, killed by an Israeli missile strike in her backyard in Jabaliya, just minutes after a strike which killed a family member living in the same house.

The same month, I was inside the now-destroyed Al-Shorouk building, having just finished an interview with RT about what I'd seen while riding in ambulances in the extremely dangerous areas of Gaza's north. Shortly after concluding the interview, Israel shelled the building at least seven times. Thankfully, the tank shelling didn't destroy the building, and we were able to run down the stairs to "safety" (although in reality nowhere was safe).



The Al-Shorouk building was again bombed a week after this. Reporters Without Borders and the Committee to Protect Journalists condemned the bombing and noted that the Israeli military had contacted Reuters (which had an office inside) "minutes before the attack to confirm the location of its Gaza office," and had explained it would not be targeted.

In November 2012, I reported from a hospital in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, after Israeli attacks, and documented the destruction of bridges and other infrastructure as well as visiting the media buildings which had been targeted. I wrote at the time, "At least three Palestinian journalists were killed in the November 2012 Israeli attacks on Gaza, and at least 12 reported injured. The Sharook building suffered damage on its upper floors from a number of bombings including drone and possibly Apache helicopter missiles. The building housing Aqsa TV and various other media offices likewise suffered major damage on its upper floors."

The CPJ reported, "A series of airstrikes beginning early Sunday and continuing today targeted two buildings, Al-Shawa and Housari Tower and Al-Shuruq Tower, which are well-known for housing numerous international and local news organizations, news reports said. At least seven journalists were injured in the first attack. Khader al-Zahhar, a cameraman for Al-Quds TV, lost his right leg."

Having journalists on the ground in a place like this is critical. In previous wars on Gaza, Israel has committed a litany of war crimes, including in 2009 targeting with a flechette bomb and killing a uniformed Palestinian medic as he worked to save injured civilians; firing more dart bombs on mourners the following day, killing six, including a pregnant woman; targeting with sniper fire two medics I was with, during ceasefire hours; assassinating children and infants; drone-striking a 14-year-old during ceasefire hours; raining white phosphorous down heavily on civilian areas throughout Gaza; bombing a school sheltering the displaced; bombing hospitals and repeatedly shelling a home Israeli soldiers had forced 60 members of an extended family into, killing 26, including 10 children and seven women.

And that was only in 2009. In 2012 and 2014, Israel again committed more unspeakable crimes of war, destroying entire neighbourhoods and massacring the residents, shelling children on a beach, and drone-striking a teen hours before ceasefire, among many others.

And now, after a few days of Israeli bombardment, horrific reports are emanating from Gaza, including accounts of Palestinians killed by what is believed to be toxic gas, and Israeli precision bombings killing entire families. As of May 14, Gaza's health ministry reports at least 119 killed, including 31 children.

Meanwhile, across occupied Palestine, Israelis are calling for Palestinians' deaths, with a rabbi allegedly saying, "I call on you to kill all Arabs!" and others using Facebook and Telegram to organize attack mobs. And it was recently reported, "Israel's defense minister Benny Gantz threatened more destruction than he ordered in Gaza in 2014. At that time, he was Israel's chief of staff commanding the 51-day assault that killed more than 2,200 Palestinians, including 551 children."

Also reported is an Israeli MP's call for the Israeli army to "flatten the Strip." That is nothing new. As I wrote in 2014, "During the eight days of slaughter, Israeli figures called to 'blow Gaza back to the Middle Ages, destroying all the infrastructure including roads and water,' and to 'Flatten all of Gaza. There should be no electricity in Gaza, no gasoline or moving vehicles, nothing,' said the deputy Israeli Prime Minister Eli Yishai and Gilad Sharon respectively."

Israel's bombing spree of media targets has been rightly condemned. The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate stated that, "the targeting of media headquarters in the brutal bombardment of Gaza is part of the full-fledged war crimes committed by the Israeli occupation authorities against the Palestinian people," and called for the United Nations and the Red Cross "to provide urgent protection to journalists and the media, and to activate Security Council resolution 2222 (which includes the protection of journalists) and oblige the occupation to fulfil [sic] this."

The CPJ stated, "It is utterly unacceptable for Israel to bomb and destroy the offices of media outlets and endanger the lives of journalists, especially since Israeli authorities know where those media outlets are housed." And the International Federation of Journalists said, "The international community cannot turn a blind eye to the systematic violations of human rights and the deliberate targeting of media and journalists. Urgent actions must be taken to hold those responsible for these crimes internationally accountable".

However, while journalist protection committees have condemned the recent Israeli bombings of media buildings in Gaza, Western corporate media generally haven't. Imagine, though, if this was taking place in Syria: if Syrian or Russian planes premeditatedly bombed and levelled media buildings there. That would be front page news for days, if not weeks.



I would go back to Gaza to report on this horror if I could enter, but that's impossible: Israel would not let me in, and is not allowing journalists in in general.

In December 2008, RWB reported, Israel declared the Gaza Strip a "closed military zone" and denied access to journalists working for international media. And now, as Shadi Ali told me the other day, Israel knows there are not many foreigners in Gaza to report what is going on. There is a media blockade, on top of the brutal siege of Gaza and Israel's bombardment.

"Israel will commit so many crimes in Gaza, while foreign media are not present," Ali predicted. And he's right. As Israel threatens to invade by land, the protection of media buildings and journalists becomes all the more important, because Israel will commit more war crimes. They've already pledged to make Gaza burn.

WASHINGTON DC ­ Since the Russian offensive inside Ukraine commenced on February 24, the Ukrainian military has cultivated the image of a plucky little army standing up to the Russian Goliath. To bolster the perception of Ukrainian military mettle, Kiev has churned out a steady stream of sophisticated propaganda aimed at stirring public and official support from Western countries.

The campaign includes language guides, key messages, and hundreds of propaganda posters, some of which contain fascist imagery and even praise Neo-Nazi leaders.

Behind Ukraine’s public relations effort is an army of foreign political strategists, Washington DC lobbyists, and a network of intelligence-linked media outlets.

Ukraine’s propaganda strategy earned it praise from a NATO commander who told the Washington Post, “They are really excellent in stratcom ­ media, info ops, and also psy-ops.” The Post ultimately conceded that “Western officials say that while they cannot independently verify much of the information that Kyiv puts out about the evolving battlefield situation, including casualty figures for both sides, it nonetheless represents highly effective stratcom.”

Key to the propaganda effort is an international legion of public relations firms working directly with Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to wage information warfare.

According to the industry news site PRWeek, the initiative was launched by an anonymous figure who allegedly founded a Ukraine-based public relations firm.

“From the first hour of war, we decided to join the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to help them distribute the official sources to show the truth,” the nameless figure told PR Week. “This is a hybrid war: the mix of bloodily struggling fight with a huge disinformation and fake campaign lead by Russia [sic].”

According to the anonymous figure, more than 150 public relations firms have joined the propaganda blitz.

The international effort is spearheaded by public relations firm PR Network co-founder Nicky Regazzoni and Francis Ingham, a top public relations consultant with close ties to the UK’s government. Ingraham previously worked for Britain’s Conservative Party, sits on the UK Government Communication Service Strategy and Evaluation Council, is Chief Executive of the International Communications Consultancy Organisation, and leads the membership body for UK local government communicators, LG Comms.

“We’ve been privileged to help coordinate efforts to support the Ukrainian Government in the last few days, “ Ingham told PRovoke Media. “Agencies have offered up entire teams to support Kyiv in the communications war. Our support for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is unwavering and will continue for as long as needed.”

With an anonymous Ukrainian figure joining two of the top public relations figures in the Kiev government’s propaganda blitz, Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs distributed a dossier folder (archived) with materials instructing public relations agencies on “key messages,” approved language, content for debunked propaganda constructs, far-right and Neo-Nazi propaganda.

The folder is run by Yaroslav Turbil, described on his LinkedIn page as “Head of Ukraine.ua ­ Ukraine’s digital ecosystem for global communications. Strategic Communications & Country Brand Promotion.” Turbil has worked at multiple “civil society” organizations closely linked to the U.S. government and interned at Internews, a U.S. intelligence-linked organization that operates under the guise of promoting press freedom.




Among the propaganda constructs distributed in the dossier, is a video of the Snake Island incident, which was quickly proven false, in which Ukrainian border guards stationed on a small island were reported to have been killed after they told an approaching Russian warship that had urged them to surrender to “Go f*** yourself.” President Zelensky held a press conference announcing he would award the men the Hero of Ukraine medal as mainstream media spread the story widely. However, the supposedly-dead soldiers quickly turned up alive and well, proving their heroic stand to be a farce.

Despite the story being proven as fake, the dossier contains a propaganda video promoting it.


Another folder in the dossier is run by Ukrainian MFA graphic artist Dasha Podoltseva and contains hundreds of propaganda graphics submitted by artists in Europe and the United States.

Some feature generic “no war” messages, while dozens of other images celebrate “The Ghost of Kiev” – a heroic Ukrainian pilot who turns out to be non-existent – and the phony “Snake Island 13” incident.

Many use xenophobic and racist language, and some are explicit in their praise of prominent Ukrainian Neo-Nazis, including C14 leader Yevhen Karas, the Right Sector fascist paramilitary, and the Neo-Nazi Azov Battalion. Multiple images call for “Banderite smoothies” – a reference to Molotov cocktails named for the late OUN-B commander Stephan Bandera, who collaborated with Nazi Germany in the mass murder of Jews and ethnic Poles during World War II. Another image depicts a book titled the: ”Encyclopedia of Incurable Diseases,” listing Russia, Belorussia, North Korea, Syria, and Eritrea.

Foreign extremists flock to Ukraine
The dossier also contains a link to a Ministry of Foreign Affairs page called “Fight for Ukraine,” which provides instructions for foreigners who wish to join Ukraine’s Neo-Nazi-infested armed forces – termed the “International Defense Legion of Ukraine.”

Following Zelensky’s call for foreign fighters to form a brigade, fighters from all over the world, including the U.S., UK, Canada, Australia, Spain, Colombia, Brazil, Chile, and more have traveled to face Russian forces. Others with no combat training or experience have arrived for “war tourism” – what one British soldier called “bullet-catchers.”

While the Ukrainian government says tens of thousands have answered their call, some commentators expressed doubt at those figures, calling it a “PR exercise.”

However, the foreigners who have traveled to Ukraine have encountered a much more severe reality than they anticipated.

Russia’s air force bombed military installations adjacent to where the foreign fighters were sleeping. Having fled to neighboring Poland, a Spanish fighter described the bombing as a “message” that could have killed thousands.

Similarly, an American fighter who hid in an ambulance to escape the frontlines warned that Ukrainian authorities were killing foreigners who decided not to fight, calling it a “trap.”




Correct wording
One document inside the dossier delineates acceptable language on the conflict with Russia as determined by the Ukrainian government.

“Such Russian clichés like ‘referendum in Crimea’ or ‘will of the people of Crimea’ are absolutely unacceptable,” the document states, in reference to the 2014 overwhelmingly successful referendum to separate from Ukraine.

The document deems unacceptable the terms “Civil war in Donbass,” “Internal conflict,” “Conflict in Ukraine” and “Ukrainian crisis” to describe the Ukrainian military’s war with the breakaway republics of the Donbass region. This, despite the fact that the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights estimates that 14,200 people, including 3,404 civilians, have been killed in internal fighting in Ukraine since 2014.

In place of these phrases, the document calls for the use of the terms “Armed aggression by the Russian Federation in Donbass, international armed conflict, Russian war against Ukraine, Russian-Ukrainian conflict armed conflict.”




Key Messages
Another document titled “Key Messages” contains specific propaganda claims that were widely disseminated in mainstream western media, but which have since been discredited. One section claims the “entire Europe was put on the brink of nuclear disaster, when the Russian troops began shelling the largest in Europe Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant.”


However, International Atomic Energy Agency’s director-general, Rafael Mariano Grossi, said that the building hit by a Russian “projectile” at the Zaporizhzhia plant was “not part of the reactor” but instead a training center. Russian troops also left Ukrainian workers to continue operating the plant.

Another section thanks Turkey for the decision “to block the access of Russian warships to the Black Sea.”

However, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan closed the Bosphorus and Dardanelles straits to all military vessels, preventing both NATO and Russian vessels from accessing the Black Sea.

Among the document’s key messages is a statement of gratitude to the “Anti-war demonstrations held by citizens of many nations throughout the world demonstrate strong support to Ukraine in defending against Russia.”

This refers to large pro-Ukraine demonstrations in Europe which have featured calls for the U.S. and NATO to establish a no-fly zone over Ukraine and shoot down Russian military aircraft, potentially transforming the conflict into a world war between nuclear-armed powers.

“Despite Russia’s propaganda, there is no discrimination based on the race or nationality, including when it comes to the crossing of the state border by foreign citizens,” claims the Ukrainian document.

However, numerous videos and reports have documented Ukrainian authorities preventing Africans from fleeing the fighting. Even the New York Times – hardly a bastion of Kremlin propaganda – published a report documenting these racist practices.

One message says that “On 16 March, the Russian forces dropped a bomb on a drama theatre where up to 1300 civilians were being sheltered. The number of casualties is still unknown.”

However, as Max Blumenthal reported the explosion appears to be the result of a false flag operation designed by the Neo-Nazi Azov Battalion and aimed at triggering a NATO intervention.




NATO-backed troll farms
Another anonymously-penned investigation shows how Ukrainian public relations firms have used targeted advertisements to astroturf Russian internet and social media networks with messaging calling to economically isolate Moscow and “stop the war.” This effort is led by Bezlepkin Evgeny Vitalievich, who uses the alias Evgeny Korolev, along with Pavel Antonov of the Targetorium organization. From behind his Korolev pseudonym, the Ukrainian information warrior composed a post on his Facebook page (now private) boasting that his firm’s Facebook ads achieved 30 million hits in three days.

At the same time, Facebook has blocked Russian state-owned media outlets from running ads and monetizing content. Several fake accounts for media outlets like Russia 24 have sprung up, burying the authentic account under a series of impostors. Facebook has also marked statements from Russian officials, including the Ministry of Defense, as “false.”

This campaign has reportedly been carried out upon recommendation from StopFake, a self-described “fact checking” outlet that is funded by the National Endowment for Democracy, Atlantic Council, Czech and UK foreign ministries, and the International Renaissance Foundation, which is funded by billionaire George Soros’ Open Society Foundation.

StopFake was hired by Facebook in March 2020 to “curb the flow of Russian propaganda” but was found to be employing multiple figures closely tied to violent Neo-Nazis. The journalist who co-authored the exposé received death threats and ultimately fled Ukraine.

Those revelations have apparently not prevented Facebook from relying on the organization for censorship guidance.

Meanwhile, Russian hackers located a public Google document (since made private, uploaded here) detailing the propaganda operation, which has been distributed in Telegram channels of “creative farms.”

“Here you can find links to Ukrainian media that need promotion, bot accounts with logins and passwords from which anti-war messages and messages with fakes about the Ministry of Defense were sent to users, theses and specific instructions on which posts and which audiences to embroider,” the investigation reads.

Another campaign is run by Nataliya Popovych, the founder of the public relations agency, One Philosophy, in Kiev. Popovych’s LinkedIn profile shows she has worked with the U.S. State Department and advised former President Petro Poroshenko. She is also co-founder and board member of Ukraine Crisis Media Center, a propaganda arm funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development, the National Endowment for Democracy, the U.S. Embassy, and NATO, among many others.

A Campaign Asia article profiles several public relations firms involved in the effort. Among them is Richard Edelman, CEO of Edelman PR. Edelman is also a member of the Atlantic Council’s Board of Directors and the World Economic Forum.

“Geopolitics has become the new test for trust. We saw this with the allegations of human rights abuses in Xinjiang and the war between Ukraine and Russia has only reinforced it,” he said, linking the U.S. propaganda campaign surrounding China’s deradicalization campaign for Uyghur Muslims.




PR approved media outlets
An article in PRWeek profiles several figures partaking in what they describe as a “PR army” that is “fighting on the informational frontline” against Russia’s “barbaric genocide of Ukrainians.”

“Propaganda is the same as real lethal weapons,” declares Marta Dzhumaha, PR manager at healthcare company BetterMe.

Julia Petryk, head of public relations at MacPaw, offers a list of approved media outlets, authored by her colleague Tetiana Bronistka, a former employee of Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office. The list includes Russian and English language sources, as well as Telegram channels. However, these “verified sources that objectively cover what is happening in Ukraine” are anything but independent. Most of them are tied to the U.S. and European governments and billionaire foundations.


She also lists several Russian-language websites:
Novaya Gazeta – Tied to and reportedly funded by the National Endowment for Democracy
Meduza – Funded by the government of Latvia, OAK Foundation, Open Society Foundation oil tycoon Mikhail Khodorovsky, and Sweden
Dozhd – SREDA foundation, European Commission
Holod Media – Offshoot of Meduza – praised in PBS and CNN as “independent media”
Proposed that Leningrad should have been surrendered to the Nazis in World War 2 and has complained that they are called a “fifth column” for being funded by western powers
BBC Russia – British government media
Current Time TV – Created by CIA-founded propaganda outlet Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty in collaboration with Voice of America
Censor – funded by, editor in chief Yuri Butusov, former advisor to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine
200RF – A Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website that claims to publish publishes photos and documents of the Russian soldiers captured and killed in action

Among the Telegram channels listed are:
Radio Svoboda – CIA-founded propaganda organ Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty
Espresso TV, largely owned by the wife of former Ukrainian member of parliament Mykola Knyazhytsky
Censor.net, formerly the largest media site in Ukraine, whose motto is “To bring down Russia”, and whose owner operates a “parade of international trolls.”




Intelligence operations
While the public relations firms distribute content, CIA cutouts and billionaire foundations run the media outlets they derive it from. At the core of this operation is a project called the Russian Language News Exchange that was the product of a network of opposition media outlets founded in 2016 that operate in post-Soviet countries, as revealed by an investigation by the Russian media agency, RIA FAN.

In July 2021, a group of journalists flew to Warsaw for media training after being exempted from coronavirus-related restrictions and quarantine orders by Poland’s top medical authorities.

Among the six journalists were Andrey Lipsky, deputy editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta, and Yuliia Fediv, CEO of Hromadske TV media, one of the most-watched networks in Ukraine.

Hromadske’s financial reports show it is funded by numerous governments and foundations, including the U.S. embassy in Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, the European Endowment for Democracy, and Free Press Unlimited. Silicon Valley billionaire Pierre Omidary was also involved in creating the outlet.

Hromadske recently hosted a commentator demanding genocide of ethnic Russians in the Donbass, saying it is populated with 1.5 “superfluous” people that “must be exterminated.”

The training, held behind closed doors from July 19 to July 21, was titled “Media Network 2021+” and closely tied to Mediaset, also known as the Russian Language News Exchange, a network founded in 2015. Russian Language News Exchange’s website is sparse, with little available information on its activities – apparently made private since the publication of RIA FAN’s investigation.

While it claims to be independent, Russian Language News Exchange is a project of Free Press Unlimited, funded by the Dutch government and the European Commission.

Today, it includes 14 media outlets that act as “nodes,” cross-publishing each other’s articles in various countries.

The website’s introductory video is hosted by Maxim Eristavi, a former Radio Free Europe reporter and founder of Hromadske. Today, he heads the Millennium Leadership Program at the NATO and arms industry-backed think tank, the Atlantic Council.

Since its inception, Mediaset has coordinated between outlets in Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Moldova, Russia, and Ukraine. In March 2021, Mediaset expanded with the Colab Medios Project, created through the Free Press Unlimited Viable Media for Empowered Societies (VIMES) program. This program created training for journalists and saw articles from the El Salvadoran outlet El Faro published in Euroradio (Belarus), Coda (Georgia), and Ziarul de Garda (Moldova).

On March 4, several days after Russia launched its military offensive, a new project called the Media Lifeline Ukraine was created.

The next day, Free Press Unlimited held an emergency conference for Ukraine featuring Hromadske co-founders Maxim Eristavi and Nataliya Gumenyuk. The meeting called to raise 2 million euros for the project. “Only with ongoing external support, will local media entities be able to continue to do their work,” its introductory page asks.

Days later, Free Press Unlimited announced a partnership to support a new joint project of Reporters Without Borders and its Ukrainian partner, the Institute for Mass Information, called The Lviv Press Freedom Center. The Institute for Mass Information is headed by USAID communications officer Oksana Romaniuk and funded by USAID and the UK government.




Washington DC lobbyists wag the dog
While public relations firms and intelligence-linked propaganda operations target the public, Washington DC lobbyists are agitating in Congress to extend the war in Ukraine

Daniel Vajdich, a registered foreign agent and lobbyist for the Ukrainian Federation of Employers of the Oil and Gas Industry, the largest in Ukraine, is working on behalf of Volodymyr Zelensky to lobby members of Congress to approve more weapons shipments to Ukraine. Now the head of Yorktown Solutions, he previously advised Ted Cruz and Scott Walker’s campaigns and is a nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council.

“Stingers, Javelins, and let’s figure out the fighter aircraft issue,” he told Politico, claiming Russia is attempting to carry out a “genocide” and “depopulate certain areas of Ukraine.”

Vajdich also wrote Zelenskyy’s March 16 speech to U.S. Congress, in which he quoted Martin Luther King Jr. ‘s ‘I Have a Dream’ speech to call for a no-fly zone over Ukraine.

Ukrainian Permanent Representative at the United Nations Sergiy Kyslytsya’s February 23 speech to the United Nations General Assembly was written by DC lobbying firm SKDKnickerbocker Managing Director Stephen Krupin, a former senior speechwriter to President Barack Obama who worked extensively on Biden’s 2020 campaign.

Most prominent among the registered lobbyists promoting Ukrainian government and business interests is Andrew Mac, who also contributed to writing Zeleneksyy’s speech to Congress. Mac registered as a lobbyist for Zelensky in 2019 and runs the Washington DC office of Ukrainian law firm Asters Law.

The lobbying firm Your Global Strategy, founded by Shai Franklin, who has been affiliated with numerous Zionist organizations including the World Jewish Congress and Anti-Defamation League, is also using its influence with local officials in the U.S. Franklin has set up meetings between Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov and U.S. mayors, including Eric Adams in New York City, Michelle Wu in Boston and Lori Lightfoot in Chicago. He is also attempting to set up a meeting between U.S. officials and the mayors of Odessa and Kiev. A media outlet owned by the mayor of Kiev’s wife recently featured a presenter calling for genocide against Russians, beginning with children.

Franklin said he’s working with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s administration to help set up virtual meetings between mayors of Odessa and Kiev and U.S. counterparts.

Maryland-based lawyer Lukas Jan Kaczmarek is also working on behalf of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense to increase U.S. weapons shipments, specifically seeking to arrange shipments of guns from Kel-Tec CNC Industries based in Cocoa, Florida, to the city of Odessa, Ukraine.

Former U.S. ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul described the network of public relations professionals and lobbyists surrounding Zelenskyy. “These are people around Mr. Zelenskyy who are like the intermediaries and interlocutors. They’ve been interacting with the American elites and American media for a long time,” he said.

McFaul and John E. Herbst, former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine and senior director of the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center, act as informal advisors to Zelenskyy. McFaul told Politico that he speaks to Ukrainian government officials “probably everyday,” and “has helped them make connections with NBC or MSNBC producers.”

McFaul recently told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow that “Hitler did not kill German-speaking people, facing accusations of Holocaust denial.

Zelenskyy also held a “strategic video call” with McFaul before he spoke to House democrats.

With a powerful Russian military fighting alongside DPR and LPR forces, the Ukrainian military’s defeat seems to be imminent unless the United States and NATO directly confront Russian forces, a scenario President Biden has already ruled out. Lobbyists nevertheless persist in their campaign to portray the Ukrainian military as underdogs scoring blow after blow against Russian hordes. In doing so, they help extend the war and continue the carnage.
