Sorry if this has been up as a topic before, but its been on the news for the past few days that up to a Million Wheelie Bins are been bugged to monitor waste disposal. *Rollocks*

All I can say is that I am disgusted. Surely there must be a law against this? What ever next?

Yes, I heard this on The News a short while ago - whatever next - M15 looking through our dustbins?!!

If they want to do something ueseful, why can't they iniatiate the "Housework Spies" who might call round unexpectedly at any time, and demand to examine your house to see if it is clean and tidy and how many cans of larger you have been drinking whilst you should have been doing your housework - if it is found that several cans have been inbibed and your house is a tip - you are instantly arrested!

The fear of them coming round would get me doing some housework at last!

This covert bugging is a disgrace. I needs to drop a quick note to my MP and get him to justify all this high tech surveilence and to guarantee it will not be abused by any government for the next 100 years.

As usual with these types of storys an obsurd reason was presented to justify it - to stop disputes between neighbors over bins.

Jane. Re. GOvernment officials comming into your house. Ever heard of the proposed carbon audits for UK homeowners?

Does anyone have any suggestion or facts as to why the chips are on the bins?

I know the police often find a wealth of evidence by examining waste contents. The gutter press has also used celebrity rubbish as a source for scoops.

What is the scope for this technology to be used to segregate any individuals rubbish for analysis by the authorities?

Never mind identity theft, there has never been a better time for buying a cross-shredder!

It's to promote recycling! Doh!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5291222.stm

"Hey! My bin's chipped. Everytime I recycle 10 cans or bottles, my bank account is credited with 1p - honest"

"Blimey, I wish we had those! Sounds like a great idea."

Or, alternative spin:

"Today, a terrorist was found hiding in a wheelie bin. Lower Uppingham Council decided they should fit all bins with a terrorist detector chip as a precaution".

Proposed UK 911 monthly project: October 2006:- (Sept 2006 is write letters to the Ed in local press especially freebies):-

How about putting 911 truth website stickers and posters (eg website addresses) on the wheelie bins.

Most wheelie bins are put out at the ends of drives/on pavements the night before so an early morning start with a newspaper round sack around your shoulder with your stickers in it; headgear:-a cap or hoodie and away you go!

Happy 911 truth awareness creating

Hilarious Andrew - excellent.

Al Jazeera has just released a video of Osama in which he says:

"I have had nothing to do with chipping your wheelie bins, I suspect that other groups may be responsible for doing this for their own reasons and wish to blame me for it. The current spiritual leader does not allow me to take part in such operations and using RFID is expressly forbidden by Islam."

Security threat level has been raised after Reid's SWAT teams arrested several wheelie bins that were acting suspiciously in Croydon.

Civil Rights groups have rubbished claims that the wheelie bins presented a threat, claiming police are using the same old recycled scare tactics.

Details of the action are still sketchy although reports are surfacing of at least one wheelie bin having been shot.

A police spokesman said that he believed the bin suffered a gunshot wound after being fired at by another bin, and has been taken to the council tip for repairs.

Police have stressed that their bullets are lead free and therefore recyclable and that no damage was done to the environment during the operation.

Police have retrieved "significant evidence" from the bins, including several discarded bottles of nail varnish remover and some other suspicious liquids which could have led to "waste on an unimaginable scale"

One of the bins was littered with martyrdom videos showing wheelie bins being tipped into the back of lorries amidst the now familiar, sickening cry of "Rubbish is Great".

While I think it is wrong that this was done in an under-hand maner, I think this is at least a step in the right direction (reducing land-fills etc). Although this is another example of how little our government values its citizens' opinions, I fail to see anything more sinister - What exactly are you guys worried about with this?

Also, what do the chips do other than store the recorded weight of all rubbish from each collection? - Why would that information need to be stored with the bin? Or does it just carry a code to identify that it belongs to your property? - Also, how would this stop people using each others bins without everyone locking their own? - And it could never work for tower blocks that use rubbish shoots..etc etc..

Cheers,

Fred

for the wheelie bin and I said nothing,
then they came for the car and I said nothing,
then they came for primary shool students and I said nothing,
then they came for workmates and I said nothing,
Finally I got a chip implant.

For everything I do I now pay.

This matters becuase it is yet another "brick in the wall"

500,000 bins with bugs...a database of names and addresses complied: all in complete secrecy with no public consultation: no debate, no discussion, no democracy, and the public conditioned to accept survaillance and the resulting fines. And even with the resulting publicity, this is still going ahead regardless

This is not a free society when it is governed by covert dictat, and many here are wise enough to recognise "stepping stones" when we see it

An interesting conundrum.

I agree Brian with your statements about Kyoto and any subsequent protocols.

This from a government allied to the US who irradiate Iraq with Depleted Uranium, who still dispose of nuclear waste in the sea. Who go to war for oil.

Household waste recycling is a JOKE in this country. Go to Europe and find three bins in the street, for recycling, where in places here it's hard to find one.

Consumers are encouraged to consume. That's all we are good for and as a result of having to buy our foods in tons of unwanted packaging, we have to pay for it's disposal.

We will eventually be charged for every ounce of waste we produce.

Why are we paying Council Tax ?

The RFID tag is registered to your address.

The bin is weighed as it is attached to the lorry before tipping.

You will eventually be charged for that weight.

Management decisions my arse.

Narinder

If you live in the Leeds City Council area, as per the letter you posted, could I suggest writing to the council and asking them what this project is all about.

To clarify how, specifically is RFID going to help "management decisions" and what debate is going to inform those decisions.

Under what legislation is this being done etc ?

Rather than the next step being cars and then people, I suggest the next step is RFIDs embedded in a multitude of consumable goods: clothes for example. All in the name of tracking goods through the supply chain and improved efficiency. Already openly discussed in the brave new frontier of the RFID business. Consequence, unless they are disabled at the point of sale, we will all become walking RFIDs with no need to embed a chip under your skin. Although no doubt they get around to that as well if we let them.

Remember no fear. As the dominos topple, we will be become many (the vast majority) and they will remain the few. They require our cooperation, compliance and ignorance to win. As the agenda comes more into the open, the cracks will widen and we (humanity) will win.

And we all know about this already don't we ?

Baja Beach Club Implants VeriChip In Customers

The Baja Beach Club in Barcelona, Spain is the first business to use the VeriChip System to grant customers access to VIP areas and provide an easy payment option.

http://www.technovelgy.com/ct/Science-Fiction-News.asp?NewsNum=104

and this:

http://view.nowpublic.com/?src=http%3A%2F%2Fsymblogogy.blogspot.com%2F 2006%2F08%2Frfid-for-human-babies.html

VeriChip Sells First Baby Protection System, in Talks with Military
By Renee Boucher Ferguson, eWeek.com - August 25, 2006

VeriChip, the company that makes human-implantable RFID chips, is looking to span its equipment from newborns to the military's enlisted.

The company announced Aug. 24 that it has made the first sale of its infant protection, wander prevention and staff duress system to the Brampton Civic Hospital in Brampton, Ontario. Separately, the company confirmed a day earlier that it is in talks with the military to test its implantable chips in two branches of the military.

VeriChip said in a press release Aug. 24 that the Brampton hospital, under construction now, is spending $750,000 to have VeriChip's platform and applications installed at its newest facility.

VeriChip's infant protection system is really two separate above-the-skin solutions, one a band similar to a standard hospital bracelet that has an embedded RFID chip. The second option, called the Halo skin-sensing system, is similar to an electronic key fob for a car that can be attached to an infant's ankle or a patient's wrist. Another key fob-type device can be worn around the neck of staff members to use as a personal panic button.

Using a handheld reader, healthcare professionals are able to securely access a patient's unique VeriChip ID number which can be looked up in a designated secure healthcare information database, allowing them to immediately take the safest course of action. Image Credit: VeriChip Corporation

But VeriChip also has a separate patient identification system, VeriMed, which is used beneath the skin. Once the chip is implanted in the fatty part of a person's arm (or in the hand, as chip volunteers have done), it displays a 16-digit identifier when tapped by an RFID reader. The number accesses health information in a database that requires a username and password for admittance.

VeriChip, of Delray Beach, Fla., confirmed in media reports that Scott Silverman, its board chairman, has held informal meetings with U.S. Navy and Air Force officials to discuss a feasibility study of its VeriMed system.

"These were preliminary discussions in informal meetings about the VeriMed project...and how it might be incorporated into the Department of Defense's electronic health records program," said Nicole Philbin, a spokesperson for VeriChip.

The VeriMed chip, which is designed "to give voices to the voiceless in the most crucial of times," according to Philbin, would be applicable to both veterans and enlisted personnel in both the Navy and Air Force.

The idea with the VeriMed chip is that data can be accessed even if a patient is severely injured or unconscious.

While civilians have the option of choosing how much information is accessible on the VeriMed database, it's not clear what the guidelines would be for enlisted personnel.

The government is no stranger to RFID. In July, the Army paid $3.76 million to 3M to implement an RFID-based system that will track medical files at its massive Fort Hood Army base in Texas ”the military's largest active-duty domestic base. Fort Hood houses the active medical records of more than 150,000 men and women stationed there ”and their dependents' records.

In concert with NATO, the U.S. military is using RFID to track goods in war theaters as well as through global supply chains. The U.S. State Department, in concert with the Department of Homeland Security, mandated RFID-chipped passports by the end of this year. And the U.S. Food & Drug Administration recently released its recommendations for the pharmaceutical industry regarding the use of RFID to track counterfeit drugs.

The FDA also approved the use of VeriChip's VeriMed implantable chip in October 2004.

In a document titled "Guidance for Industry and FDA Staff" released in December 2004, the FDA made a couple of recommendations for VeriChip as it goes about its business of chipping individuals and groups like the military's enlisted: "When discussing the issue of medical devices that store, access, and/or transfer information externally, you should address the concept of information security," reads the document.

The FDA also identified a number of risks associated with an implantable RFID chip, including adverse tissue reaction, migration of the implanted transponder, electromagnetic interference and electrical hazards.

Thanks.

This is what I believe but it's nice to hear it from someone else once in a while.

Especially with the White House now pointing the finger at conspiracy theorists as terrorist sympathisers.
