I cant play AVI files through WMV. Error downloading codec. Can someone tell me how to play this file?

you need to get Divx (player and codecs) - Divx player is very good and generally plays all types of files

Or just get VLC player which has all codecs built in, not just DivX, will even play bin/cue images:
