Like most people I do not know enough about world issues to say exactly why the US went to war in Afghanistan and Iraq. Having read documents relating to Unocal and Afghanistan and more recently, Saddams request to be paid in Euros and the Iranian oil bourse I believe we are getting closer to understanding US motivations, but who knows.
I am not sure if some of you will feel that this is completely relevant to the 9/11 group but many of you seem pretty knowledgeable and I am wondering if it would be useful to us as a group to have some kind of timeline or diagram of events prior to and post 9/11, like taliban talks with Unocal(http://www.worldpress.org/specials/pp/pipeline_timeline.htm - existing timeline, too complicated for me, with too much information) or Iraqi Oil to be paid for in Euros. I think this would help me and others when talking to people about US motivations for being in Afghanistan and Iraq and 9/11 as a pretext to war. It does mean that to some degree we would be making a judgement as to the 'real' reasons behind US involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan which I would guess that noone is really in a position to do.
We could do it collectively with indivduals contributing information or if someone feels that they are able to compile something alone, do that. Also, there may be something like this already available on the net, if anyone knows of something, please let me know.
