Rocket launcher ‘found at dentist’s house’
Published on 06/10/2006
http://www.nwemail.co.uk/news/viewarticle.aspx?id=420965

A RETIRED Grange dentist is accused of being part of a bomb plot after a record number of explosives were seized in a Lancashire town. David Bolais Jackson, 62, of Trent Road, Nelson, was arrested on Friday in the Lancaster area after leaving his Grange practice for the last time. Jackson was charged with being in possession of an explosive substance for an unlawful purpose.
However, it is unclear who or what the intended target might have been. Police found rocket launchers, chemicals, British National Party literature and a nuclear or biological suit at his home. The find came shortly after they had recovered 22 chemical components from the house of his alleged accomplice, Robert Cottage, a former BNP election candidate, who lives in Colne.
The haul is thought to be the largest ever found at a house in this country.

A terror raid that doesn't make the headlines - despite chemical explosives and a rocket launcher

by Charlie Kimber

Here's a police seizure of weapons that wasn’t splashed all over the front pages. This week a British National Party election candidate has been accused of possessing the largest amount of chemical explosives of its type ever found in the country. That’s right, the largest ever - imagine if he’d been an Asian man. Home secretary John Reid would have held a special press conference and it would have led every news bulletin.
The home of another man charged with similar offences contained a rocket launcher and a nuclear biological suit as well as BNP literature and chemicals!
Robert Cottage of Talbot Street, Colne, and David Bolus Jackson of Trent Road, Nelson, made separate appearances in court charged with being in possession of an explosive substance for an unlawful purpose. Cottage was arrested at his home on Thursday of last week, while retired dentist Jackson was arrested in the Lancaster area on Friday.
The 22 chemical components recovered by police are believed to be the largest haul ever found at a house in this country. Cottage stood as a BNP candidate in the Pendle council elections in May.
Christiana Buchanan, who appeared for the prosecution in Jackson's case, alleged the pair had "some kind of masterplan".

Lucy,

A good question.... It was picked up by BBC Radio Lancashire but not by national news outlets. Likewise, of the national newspapers, only the Sunday Times carried anything, and that only one paragraph.

I think this is partly down to the way the police locally handled the whole thing - and words have been said about the lack of information coming from them. But you may be able to judge their interpretation of this case by the fact that charges have been laid under the obscure Explosives Act rather than any anti-terrorist legislation.

However, I should point out that much of the information you may have read on various websites goes far beyond what should be reported once people have been arrested and charged, and the BBC would not have given anywhere near that much detail of the case.

But I'm told there will definitely be someone covering next Monday's court hearing in Burnley.

I hope that's useful,

Ian Jolly

my reply from the bbc when i asked about the reporting restrictions.

Quote:

Dear Mr Gray

Reporting restrictions did not prevent us reporting the initial police arrest however the fact that we didn't know about it did. I have investigated how the story was missed. It appears a reporter from BBC Radio Lancashire investigated initial reports but the police "played it down". Clearly when an arrest has been made the police are the primary source of information and what they say about the significance of a case legitimately plays a part in determining its news-worthiness. Our regional television centre in in Manchester found out about the strength story only after the initial court appearance. Reporting restrictions are imposed by the courts to allow a fair trial if a case is pursued. Those arrested are due to appear at Blackburn Crown Court on October 23rd, BBC TV News will attend the hearing.

Yours sincerely,

Debby Moyse

lets see what happens on the 23rd.. i imagine it will be not very much tho

Ex-BNP man held in 'bomb' swoop
By Charlotte Bradshaw

http://www.burnleycitizen.co.uk/news/newsheadlines/display.var.947927. 0.exbnp_man_held_in_bomb_swoop.php

A FORMER British National Party member has been arrested after police found bomb-making equipment at his house.

Police sealed off the home of Robert Cottage in Talbot Street, Colne, after storming the address and discovering chemical components that could be used to make explosives.

The 49-year-old has been arrested under the Explosives Act on suspicion of possessing chemicals that may be capable of making an explosion.

However Superintendent Neil Smith moved to reassure residents and stressed: "It is not a bomb making factory" and added that it was not related to terrorism.

Officers have been at the address since last Thursday and have been conducting door to door inquiries. Forensic officers have seized his car for examination.

Supt Smith added: "We are making inquiries in relation to what we have found at his address and to establish what offences he may have committed.

"He's not a terrorist and it's not a bomb factory but we are interested in what we have seized from his house. It will take expert advice to establish exactly what he has got.

"He was arrested under the Explosives Act on suspicion of possessing chemical substances that aren't in themselves an offence to possess but if combined may be capable of making an explosion."

Cottage stood for the BNP in the May elections in the Vivary Bride ward of Colne.

However it is understood his membership had lapsed.

Nelson BNP councillor Brian Parkinson said: "I am very shocked and surprised to hear this. I am glad to hear that he is no longer a member of our party because the BNP wouldn't want to be associated with this incident. It certainly wouldn't condone the sort of thing he is allegedly being connected with."

Neighbours said they were shocked by the police swoop. Corinne West, 22, of Talbot Street, said: "The police came to my door at 7pm on Friday night asking if I had seen anything suspicious. They wouldn't tell me anything which was quite worrying."

Aaron Haworth, 23, who lives next door but one with his partner Marie and two children, added: "The police have been here since Thursday and we are still none the wiser as to what's happened.

"It's ridiculous really. I have two young children and if there is bomb making equipment at the house I want to know about it because I have my children's safety to think about. There's been all sorts of rumours flying around, I don't know why the police are being so cagey, that's what's making everyone so worried."

Another neighbour, who lives across the road, but who asked not to be named, said: "I know Robert to talk to. He's always very polite and stops to talk his mum who lives on the same road and she's very nice too.

"He is good with the children on the street. He's been married to Karina for about three years and they seem good together. He drives a yellow bus taking disabled children to school and stood in the local elections for the BNP party.

"I think it is an outrage that the police have been so secretive. The forensics have been here and taken his Peugeot car away for examination.

"On Thursday we were told to stay inside and stay away from the windows which left us all wondering what on earth was going on. They arrested him from the back door and it was strange because the officers had a key to get in the front but from the way they went in it looked as though they thought it might have been booby-trapped. It took them about 10 minutes just to get through the door."

THEY'RE IN COURT TOMORROW...

Rocket launchers? No comment

I noted last week that Muslims need only sneeze, or drop veils, to make headlines. Anglo-Saxons, however, can allegedly stockpile rocket launchers, chemicals and a nuclear biological suit without any comment whatever.

I jest not. This month, a retired dentist and a former BNP council candidate appeared before a Lancashire magistrates' court and were remanded in custody. The prosecution alleged they possessed the largest haul of chemical components ever found at a British house and had "some kind of master plan".

As far as I can discover, this case, though reported in the local press, has otherwise featured only on a handful of blogs, on the excellent First Post website http://www.thefirstpost.co.uk/index.php?menuID=1&subID=815 (run by Telegraph exiles) and as the seventh item in the Guardian diary.

The case is due to be heard at Burnley Crown Court on 23 October. I look forward to appropriately alarmist press coverage in the coming days.

The court case which was originally planned for Monday 23 October in Burnley was re-scheduled last week. It will now be tomorrow in Preston at 10.00.

The local Lancashire Telegraph newspaper for Monday 23 October omitted this information. There will be no mention of the above on Radio Lancashire or the local commercial station, 2BR.

So, there won't be many reporters there, since the rescheduling was not publicised. Typical. Let's see what the outcome is. Either they get sent to our equivalent of Guantanamo Bay, or they'll get 6 month suspended sentences. My bet's on the latter... Wink

Not only does it not make national news but its not even the main news in Lancashire.

Beaten by the ground breaking headline of 'delays on motorways' and even 'man traps arm in hydraulic press'

What next? 'cat gets stuck up tree'?

Its great to know that our media is free to report on the real issuses of today.

These people are most likely intelligence assets with some agenda amongst neo-fascist groupings
Probably infiltrators or agents provocateurs of some kind
That's why it doesnt get on the main news and why they're likely to get off mostly

---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------
Hi Bongo Brian - here is something I posted in July. Along the same lines as your suggestion earlier.

Half of the bbc's funding comes directly from the licence fee payers. I find myself becoming increasingly agitated at my partial funding of a major corporation whose governors and many of its employees appear to be deliberately ignoring the biggest 'story' which has occurred in its entire history. A cursory reading of the charter shows the following inter alia:-

5. PROGRAMME STANDARDS

5.1 The Corporation shall do all it can to secure that all programmes broadcast or transmitted by or on behalf of or under licence from the Corporation as part of the Home Services:-

(a) provide a properly balanced service consisting of a wide range of subject matter;
(b) serve the tastes and needs of different audiences and, in particular, in order to show concern for the young, are placed at appropriate times;
(c ) treat controversial subjects with due accuracy and impartiality, both in the Corporation's news services and in the more general field of programmes dealing with matters of public policy or of political or industrial controversy, and do not contain any material expressing the opinion of the Corporation on current affairs or matters of public policy other than broadcasting and matter contained in programmes which consist of proceedings in either House of Parliament or proceedings of a local authority or a committee of two or more local authorities;
(d) do not include anything which offends against good taste or decency or is likely to encourage or incite to crime or lead to disorder or to be offensive to public feeling;
(e) do not involve improper exploitation of any susceptibilities of those watching or listening to its religious programmes or any abusive treatment of the religious views and beliefs of those belonging to a particular religion or religious denomination;
(f) do not include any technical device which, by using images of very brief duration or by any other means, exploits the possibility of conveying a message to, or otherwise influencing the minds of, persons watching or listening to the programmes without their being aware, or fully aware, of what has occurred.

In view of standard ( c ), can it not be reasoned that the bbc is falling far short of its stated and required standards with regards to the 9/11 affair, given that on many occasions by now the bbc has been alerted to the important developments in the 'story' by numerous persons.

Is it beyond the realms of possibility that the beeb is therefore ripe for the suing of by us - the fee providers?, citing 'unfit for purpose' or somesuch? maybe even The Trades Descriptions Act.

Why wait for publicity from that tired, sad, quasi defeated public service.

Enough publicity would be generated by its commercial rivals in such an event as a public revolt.

It is, of course, eminently possible that the beeb, the paper press and the commercial stations have been gagged. Provision has, I notice, been built into the charter for allowing gagging orders to be served which need not be explained or even announced to the public.

just a thought

cheers Al..

ps As I understand, the BBC greatly fear the possibility of being sued, due to their limited funds(most of it being spent on top-heavy management salaries plus much 'entertainment'.

Bongo Brian -

Quote:
Call to Ban Fireworks as Dogs are requiring medication!"

And at the moment it is "Novelty socks ban plan for medics!"

The BBC are criminals. We should refuse to pay our TV licence's and when we go to court we can show them this evidence and prove that the BBC is in breech of contract and has not carried out its' obligation to the licence payer to provide even and balanced news.

Indeed. In fact, I'll go you one further. After several years of having BBC Breakfast news on the background as I begrudgingly drag myself out of bed of a morning, I've formed my own conspiracy theory that their news output is so poor it actually sucks intellligence out of your brain - it's so fatuous and asinine it literally destroys neurons. I came to this startling conclusion watching this morning's gripping story on how people get cross when someone else parks outside their house.

Seriously, was the news always this bad? Remember Brass Eye or The Day Today? If so, have you noticed how they hardly look like satire any more? Put 'em on at 6 o'clock news time and no-one would notice the difference.

How dare you!!??

I think she's (sob) wonderful. I can't sleep at night if I think anything might be wrong with her. As I curl up in my hovel, I engage in delightful speculation as to what exciting new hat she'll wear next.

You may question the national importance of the revelation that some old lady in London has a bad back, but that's just sheer lack of patriotism. People like her made this country great!

People like you should be rounded up and put in camps!!!!
