Dear friends and fellow anti-war campaigners,

According to a 20-22 Oct poll conducted by ICM, 45% of the UK public
wants to see an immediate withdrawal of British forces from Iraq and a
further 16% would like to see these forces withdrawn by the end of the
year "even if the US wants [them] to stay on" (Guardian, 24 October). We
*are* the majority. However, without active pressure from the
grassroots, these poll figures will remain just numbers on a piece of paper.
It's time to stand up and be counted.

This weekend will see a series of anti-occupation events in London,
culminating in the second mass act of nonviolent resistance to the
occupation to take place in the UK since the 2003 invasion of Iraq: an
"unauthorised" 24-hour peace camp in Parliament Square (see [A] below). We
urge you to join us.

For those of you planning to take part in the peace camp, we strongly
recommend that you come to the nonviolent direction action workshop and
legal briefing on Saturday 28 October (see [A] for details). However,
if you can't make this but would like to pick up a placard (or maybe
even a tent, supplies permitting!) - or get answers to any quick questions
that you might have about the camp - there will be an opportunity to do
this at 7.45pm after the workshop has finished.

SATURDAY 28 OCTOBER:
* PEACE JOURNEY FROM THE UK'S MILITARY NERVE CENTRE IN NORTHWOOD. Meet
11am,
Northwood tube station. Finish 4pm, central London.
* NONVIOLENT DIRECT ACTION WORKSHOP AND LEGAL BRIEFING. 4.30 - 7.30pm,
Diorama 3, 3-7 Euston Centre, London NW1 3JG (tube: Warren Street).
[Directions to Diorama 3 from Warren Street tube: Exit the station and
turn left to face 40-story Euston tower. Cross the
road heading towards the tower. Turn left in front of the tower, carry
on, and turn right after Pret-A-Manger. We are in the ground floor of
the building with the 4-story, pop art, electric fan painting. Look for
the door beneath the sign that reads D3.]

SUNDAY 29 OCTOBER:
"UNAUTHORISED" 24-HOUR PEACE CAMP IN PARLIAMENT SQUARE
to demand an end to the occupation. ASSEMBLE 12 NOON, PARLIAMENT
SQUARE.
N.B: Under the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act participation in
such an "unauthorised" demonstration is a criminal offence punishable
by a fine of up to one thousand pounds.

PLEASE BRING:
- Tents (see [D] below)
- A sleeping bag + mat
- Food (we hope to be able to provide some food but the more the
better!)
- Water
- Warm clothing and waterproofs (remember that it's October!)
- Placards, banners etc... The more colourful and creative the better.
- A good book (or books) in case you're arrested
- Your positive energies!

PLEASE DON'T BRING:
- Alcohol or drugs
- Anything that could be construed as a weapon eg. a penknife.

[D] FAQS ABOUT THE "NO MORE FALLUJAHS" WEEKEND

[Q1] Will I get arrested if I come to the peace journey on the 28th
Oct?

No. There is no reason that you should be arrested for taking part in
the peace journey.

[Q2] Can I take part in the "peace journey" and the nonviolent direct
action workshop on 28 Oct?

Yes. These have been deliberately timed so that this is possible.

[Q3] Will I get arrested if I take part in the 24-hour peace camp in
Parliament Square?

It's a real possibility, particularly if you refuse to disperse
following an announcement by the police (see "Legal Briefing"). So far, dozens
of people have been arrested for taking part in such "unauthorised"
demonstrations. However, not everyone who has taken part in such actions
has been arrested eg at the Mass Action Group's last action in April 300
people took part in an "unauthorised" 4-hour demonstration in
Parliament Square, with placards and giant puppets, but no-one was arrested.

You will probably receive a warning - and be given one last chance to
leave - before being arrested, but there are no guarantees.

[Q4] Can I have plans for Monday if I'm going to risk arrest at the
peace camp?

Not. The police could move in to arrest people at any point during the
24 hours and even if you're arrested on the Sunday there's no guarantee
that you'll be released before Monday.

[Q5] What if the police cordon off Parliament Square?

This is unlikely, but if they do then we will set up camp as close to
the Square as possible - on the pavement if necessary.

[Q6] What if the police don't arrest us?

If the police don't arrest us there are plans to hold a series of
anti-war workshops and discussions in the Square, as well as music, street
theatre etc...

[Q7] Why haven't you applied for permission to hold the peace camp?

Over the past 3½ years US-led forces in Iraq have killed tens of
thousands of Iraqis - including many thousands of civilians - and pushed the
country into civil war. Detainees have been tortured and hospitals
bombed. Whole towns and cities have been attacked and tens of thousands of
Iraqis forced to flee their homes.

Those of us taking part in the peace camp on 29 Oct will be risking
arrest, a criminal record and a possible £1000 fine, to demonstrate our
opposition to these horrors in the strongest possible terms and to demand
a major part of the solution: an end to the occupation.

[Q8] Do I need to bring my own tent, and if so could it be confiscated?

The organisers have purchased a stock of between 20-30 tents for use on
29 October. These will be decorated with anti-war artwork. Please
contact us ASAP if you would like to take responsibility for one of these:

it could be confiscated and / or "arrested" by the police - so if
you're not willing to risk this, don't bring it!

Oh dear. We have more people determined to cause trouble... gravity deniers who pretend that the Law of Gravity is an opinion so they can keep the paycheques coming in - or their "safe" view of reality.... whichever it is - I know not....

Spam away chaps... I am not going over 2, 3, 4 and 5 year old territory again.
