So the satellites actually destroyed the towers with their beam weapons, what was this helicopter doing with its beam? Given the speed it was travelling at, and given how tiny helicopters are, relatively speaking, what was this beam doing? Cant have been too powerful, any chance it was, say, a standard helicopter mounted spotlight being shone on areas of the tower obfuscated by dust and shadow?

I watched this several times around the specified point.
I cut out sections and magnified them, but was unable to identify this rope or beam, only a brief flash of sorts.
One thing I did find strange was that the whirling rotors of the helicopter did not appear to take with them any smoke or disrupt it as it left the smoke cloud.

What were those helicopters doing? I am saying something is dropped into that tower to help the subsequent demolition. Those helicopters arent interested in helping those poor office girls, so wtf are they doing up there. Directing rescue efforts? filming news items? offering hope to survivors? cataloguing concentrations of people needing rescuing? recording the event for posterity? reporting on areas of structural weakness? performing feasability flights before rescue blackhawks were sent in?Providing live feed to nypd? Providing live feed to NYFF? Providing live feed to FEMA?
Or somehow airlifting a REALLY small bomb to the top of a building that doesnt explode from the top?

You ever see those two SAS soldiers who were dragged from their cars, beaten, shoved into a pub car park and then executed during the troubles? If not, dig it out. The footage exists because a helicopter pilot saw what was happening and hovered over the area recording every minute during the frustration of his inability to land and help.
HElicopter S&R is enormously rewrding because you can see a problem and help, no matter where it is. Flying a non S&R helicopter over a disaster area is the worst job in the world because you can get close enough to disaster to TASTE it but cant do anything about it.
Regardless, why did they drop a small explosive device on a building that clearly did not explode from the top down? IF they'd dropped a feckin NUKE on the roof, most of the force would have been directed to the sky (path of least resistance)
Besides, with thermite in place and beam weapons at the ready, why drop a few pounds of TNT in the way? I just dont get it

As Counsellor Troi accurately pointed out, there is no such thing as 'false hope' only 'hope'.
However. let us be realistic.
Assuming those in the helicopters did not know that the buildings would collapse, we cannot say that their presence would have been valueless. If it has been established they were not news helicopters (and I have seen no real footage taken from such close quarters as they would have captured), then the information they relayed to those on the ground about the situation above could have proved invaluable.
One thing to bear in mind, the downdraft from the rotors would only have fanned the flames had they got too close. I do remember reading that the wind currents around such structures makes it very difficult to control such aircraft.
Instead of labelling these pilots '*', isn't better to establish their true intentions - they may have genuinely been there to assist, but found no opportunity.
