Good to see that there's been an intensive investigation: ie the PM's Intelligence and Security Committee asked the spooks were they at fault, and the spooks said no.

Security and intelligence services were not at fault over July 7 bombings in London, according to a report into the atrocity.

But the cross-party Commons Intelligence and Security Committee will ask Prime Minister Tony Blair why the lead bomber Mohammed Sidique Khan was not investigated, despite being known to police.

The MPs also questioned the quality of intelligence on the activities of British militants in Pakistan prior to the four suicide bombings on London's transport network.

The committee is also said to be critical of the system of alert and threat levels which it ruled was unclear.

The national threat level was lowered from "severe, general" to "substantial" just before the attacks that killed 52 people and injured hundreds.

The committee said that although it was probably irrelevant to the bombers' plans, the warning system needed to be simplified for the public.

Khan, 30, was one of the four bombers who took part in the attacks last summer as he detonated explosives in a rucksack on his back near Edgware Road station, killing seven people.

Counter-terrorism officials were said to be aware of Khan, but he was not suspected of being a key player in a radical group.

The report, which will be handed to Mr Blair, was gathered from interviews with the police and intelligence community.

As if the 7/7 narrative will be anything less than a similar whitewash-cop out, exonerating all branches of the security services & goverment, police etc.

STUDIO INTERVIEW: JOHN FAULDING, LOST PARTNER ON 7/7 - if the security services were negligent we wouldn't have heard about it. Many things still went wrong and we want to discuss it at an inquiry. It was strange the security alert was downgraded, they admit it was shambles. Most chillingly they knew about Khan but didn't rate him as a risk. It's awful they were pretty close. If there was a public inquiry this would have been the prime questions, were told Khan was low grade but we don't know. There is room for suspicious and cynicism. The nature of the security services and a culture of reports where everything is all right and things are lovely and fine, nobody is to blame for anything ever. I'm concerned and surprised there is not public inquiry. This was a look at the GLA and security services, we are going to have this narrative shortly, all these things coming out in little bits and not joined up, a public inquiry will be an opportunity to test and fully scrutinise things.
