BAE & CARLYLE to bid for Plymouth Dockyard for Trident

'BAE SYSTEMS has reportedly reportedly teamed up with US private equity firm CARLYLE in a bid to take control of Britains submarine industry. the pair are rumoured to be planning to take over the Devonport dockyard in Plymouth, which maintains Royal navy submarines. The yard, the largest private-sector employer in Devon and Cornwall, is worth about £200 million. However, a deal would put BAE and CARLYLE in prime position to clinch the £25billion MOD contract to build a new fleet of nuclear submarines. BAE already owns the yard at Barrow, Cumbria, which builds Britains subs. A Devonport deal could lead that operation being moved to the South-West so building and maintenance are under one roof."
