The Government is considering installing X-ray cameras on lampposts to spot armed terrorists and other criminals.
According to a leaked memo seen by The Sun, "detection of weapons and explosives will become easier" if the scheme drawn up by Home Office officials is adopted.
However, officials acknowledged that it would be highly controversial as the cameras can "see" through clothing.
"The social acceptability of routine intrusive detection measures and the operational response required in the event of an alarm are likely to be limiting factors," the memo warned.
"Privacy is an issue because the machines see through clothing."
The Sun reported that the memo, dated January 17, was drawn up by the Home Office for the Prime Minister's working group on security crime and justice.
It noted that some technologies used for airport security had already been used in police operations searching for drugs and weapons in nightclubs.
"These and other could be developed for a much more widespread use in public places," it said.
"Street furniture could routinely house detection systems that would indicate the likely presence of a gun for example."
A Home Office spokeswoman said: "We don't comment on leaked documents".

There's another problem apart from the obvious privacy issues here. Xrays are quite dangerous - long term exposure can cause cancer. So if they go and stick xray cameras on lamp posts then people are going to be exposed to them a lot more than they should. Surely they won't allow this?? |

I think the difference with this technology is that it is a filter based system rather than a projection based system.
To be honest mate, they fill our foods with enough nonsense, expose us to DU leftovers blown in from the middle east, left over radiation from Chernobyl im not really sure for me personally thats even an issue.
If the system was completely harmless (which it is) would that make you feel any better about it? _________________ Since when? |

Like I said, there are privacy issues here. I suppose it would help catch out people who seem to think that carrying around a knife is cool or whatever.
I dunno ![Confused](images/smiles/icon_confused.gif) |

It would provide severe toss material for all the watchers, whatever their predilection, women men, children, youth, old or young, and as well as stated before more harmful irradiation on every street corner just as with the masts. Perhaps now is the time to arm with the sledgehammers and angle grinders, as well as the more soft technology of orgone devices against this monstrous intrusion _________________ http://www.exopolitics-leeds.co.uk/introduction |

X-ray cameras on the streets makes 1984 look quite quaint.
It's simply ridiculous...Nobody could actually go along with this, surely to god? _________________ It's a man's life in MOSSAD |

I don't know - if the public can be persuaded one step at a time. The thing is, each step gets bigger. We seem to be on a logarithmic ride towards a totaly designed moral and social capitulation. Xray lamposts that can shout back at you. Soon to come - IV RFID 4 all or no go @ the supermarket.
The art of resistance-less change is called predictive programming.
1) Flag up an issue - say 'Road Pricing'
2) Blether on about it for a year or 2
3) Implement road pricing via mandatory RFID in yr car (with attendant benefit of tracking 'terrorists' on motorways near Birmingham)
If it was
1) Implement road pricing via madatory RFID in yr car.
There would be a hell of a revolt. But ease the idea in ...
I learned that from Alan Watt @ www.cuttingthroughthematrix.com
'In olden days a touch of stocking
was considered rather shocking
now heaven knows...
Anything goes'
