Explosively Formed Projectile (EFP)

So. I was sitting watching the buildup to the Iran war again today, all that talk about the evidence for EFP's and then I actually listened to a description of what they are - here's the first centence in wikipedias explanation:

"A conventional shaped charge projects a hypervelocity jet of metal that is able to penetrate to great depths, even against armor-steel targets"

A small quantity of soft liquid metal penetrating steel armour?

"delivering a wide spray of semi-molten metal and vehicle armour backspall, intended to penetrate the vehicle's exterior, injuring its crew and damaging other systems."

Look, a cardboard cutout!



I wonder if this comparison is OBVIOUS enough to class as helpfull evidence?

i not quite with it, what is this evidence of? do you think it could be how the planes penertrated the building so easily?

i mean thats what i think this post looks like its suggesting but i could be wrong so just clarifying.

Hiya, yeah I was pretty badly attacked by Andrew Johnson and TTWSU3 for posting an egg on slate experiment as a simple comparison with the structure of the plane (being the egg). The point was, as you drop the egg from higher, eventually it and the slate both break on impact. It's simple but clear demonstration that though an object may be fragile, weight and speed are the key components in it's increasing destructiveness as speeds increase.

I hope that this is an even clearer demonstration that soft, brittle objects, or even liquid can effortlessly penetrate significantly harder things... Indeed, in this case this liquid metal is the BEST kind of projectile to use if you want to penetrate steel armour. Wierd eh?
