The US psychological torture system is finally on trial

America has deliberately driven hundreds, perhaps thousands, of prisoners insane. Now it is being held to account in a Miami court

Naomi Klein – The Guardian – Friday February 23, 2007

Something remarkable is going on in a Miami courtroom. The cruel methods US interrogators have used since September 11 to "break" prisoners are finally being put on trial. This was not supposed to happen. The Bush administration's plan was to put José Padilla on trial for allegedly being part of a network linked to international terrorists. But Padilla's lawyers are arguing that he is not fit to stand trial because he has been driven insane by the government.

The army's field manual, reissued just last year, states: "Sensory deprivation may result in extreme anxiety, hallucinations, bizarre thoughts, depression, and antisocial behaviour" - as well as "significant psychological distress".

If these techniques drove Padilla insane, that means the US government has been deliberately driving hundreds, possibly thousands, of prisoners insane around the world. What is on trial in Florida is not one man's mental state. It is the whole system of US psychological torture.

Naomi Klein did an excellent article entitled Baghdad Year Zero, which gives an excellent primer as to whats going down in the world these days.

She speaks of the supposed failure of the corporate dream that Iraq was supposedly meant to create.

But , and perhaps with insight, I get the impression that she was pre-emtively spelling it out large - That the whole plan was deliberately made to fail.

Sorry incidentally, if my initial response appeared to go off topic.

So, to get back to the original theme.

People being sent out of their minds by what are essentially US govnt ( CIA) sanctioned torture centres ?

Anyone who has done any real reading into project paperclip, whereby the USA assimilated into their intelligence agencies former Nazi's , who's expertise in subsequent mind control experiments spawned the likes of Oswald, Ruby, Hinckley, Chapman, Mcveigh, Mousawwi and co, should not be in the least surprised to find that people detained in Gitmo Bay and Heaven knows how many other sites around the globe, will be the next "Mohammed Attas" of the world.

The current Presidents father is a pointman for all this insanity.

George Herbert Walker Bush ;

Head of the CIA 1975-1976

Affectionately known amidst his peers as "The Webmeister", out of reverence no doubt to its German roots, not to mention a knight of the British Empire, this man is evil personified.

So much for "Israel and Mossad, and all the rest of it" did it.
