Following Nick Pope's reliance on the Popular Mechanics article on TalkSport last night, I thought it was about time I re-read this.
I quickly realised why I had only skim read it before.
Quote: | Why couldn't ATC find the hijacked flights? When the hijackers turned off the planes' transponders, which broadcast identifying signals, ATC had to search 4500 identical radar blips crisscrossing some of the country's busiest air corridors. |
That doesn't seem unreasonable at first reading does it? Yet if the hijackers had turned off the transponders the radar blips wouldn't be identical because normal flights woud still be sending transponder signals. Nobody has to recruit the skills of Einstein to realise the four radar blips without transponder codes are likely to be the hijacked planes.
I'm going to continue reading the article, just to reassure myself of the standard of writing. |

Thanks for the links Ian, much appreciated.
Oh and by the way, Zabooka, make sure you get a copy of the song at http://www.911building7.co.uk onto your Myspace profile. (It should be on everyone's profile in my opinion) |
