I posted this letter to the Editor in response to the otherwise excellent piece in today's edition.

Quote: | In your excellent and timely survey of the extent of the government's erosion of our liberties, there is one thing missing. It is the reason for the phony War on Terror and the justification for every tightening of the tourniquet around freedom's throat.
I refer to the attacks of September 11th, 2001. There is growing disquiet with the findings of the 911 commission. Many people believe, with fair justification, that the US administration had advance warnings of
the atrocities which went unheeded. Some, myself included, take the view that they even helped in the destruction of the World Trade Center and the attack on the Pentagon. If these fears proved true , the implications for the US and British Military would be devastating. Could it be that the first victim of the 'Bonfire of the Liberties' is the truth?
