Just been listerning to Drive on Radio 5 Live (heavens knows why Sad ) but they have just been going on and on about John Reids recent statement about a so called electronic attack! Never fear because on the bright side they read out 2 text message replies:-
1) This is a plot that was followed a few years ago in Spooks, its like this follows art.
2) I have no interest in the latest blair government scaremonging, I'm more concerned about my tomato plant seedlings

Wow that gives me great incouragement that the UK population just will no longer buy their lies and bully tactics.

Another worrying developement though is that the Police Commissioner is complaining about infomation being leeked to the media about arrests?? So now the public is not to be made awair of these activities?? This move is apparently the result of the Birmingham Terror suspects case, I don't recall anything leaked beyond the ordinary level of public awareness Mad

Yeah that's encouraging, lots of people who have been hard core labour have now turned their backs on them for good.. Labour is finsihed, and 9/11 7/7 PNAC and Zbiginew Brzezinski has a lot to do with it...

This movement is huge, you can't see it because there is a total media blackout... I predict a massive LibDem victory in May, Labour down to 19-21%.

I hope there is a hung parliment (at the next Gen Election) because obviously a Tory victory will only be more of the same, (same beer in a different bottle), and then there will be some hangings...
I've often thought, what will the 'government' do, the only two options are to carry out another 9/11 or invade Iran, I can't see any other way out of this for them...

The Daily Mail reports on Reid's lecture at the RUSI Conference here

Dr John Reid wrote:
the authorities cannot guarantee 100 per cent success in combating terrorism

Dr John Reid wrote:
Scaring people does not produce security. We are led to value security through what our liberties enable us to appreciate.

Dr John Reid wrote:
I don't need to remind you of al Qaida's declared aim to 'bleed us to bankruptcy' and I don't need to remind you of their call for attacks on the West's energy supplies which would have enormous, incalculable damage if they were able to be achieved.

It is easy to appreciate the devastation of a physical attack and what it can bring but we must not underestimate the potentially devastating consequences of an electronic attack.

Dr John Reid wrote:
The proven dedication and commitment of our police, security and armed services can be taken for granted but their capacity, like any organisation, cannot be taken for granted to always get it right.

The pace, scale and intensity of innovation our adversaries are capable of allows no room for complacency. We need to be faster, brighter and more agile than our adversaries.

He emphasised the important role the private sector and academia will play in combating terrorism by

making innovation happen...through healthy markets rather than the blighted prospects on offer from our adversaries".

So there we have it.

Healthy markets will defeat "terrorism".

Markets for surveillance, spy cameras, telephone tapping, business continuity, ID Cards, travel "security", iris scanning equipment, data mining, more big brother, more of our money funnelled through to the corporations so that we can be more "secure".

Is it any wonder the erstwhile communist Reid delivers his Thatcherite market led solution to terrorism in front of this audience in the company of these speakers:

Rt Hon John "call me Doctor" Reid, Home Secretary

Bruce Mann, Head of the Civil Contingencies Secretariat
Director, Centre for the Protection of National Security

Adrian Van Kleveren, Deputy Director of News, BBC

William Flynn, Director of Risk Management, Office of Infrastucture Protection, US Dept. of Homeland Security

Magnus Ovilius, Head of Sector, Preparedness and Crisis Management, European Commission

Simon Webb, Director General, TRANSEC

John Milne, Head of Business Continuity Management, Financial Services Authority

Roger Styles, Deputy Director, Central Sponsor for Information Assurance, Cabinet Office

Mark Hughes, Group Security Director, BT

Julian Dennis, Director of Compliance & Sustainability, Wessex Water

Paul White, Former CEO, Barts and The London NHS Trust

Mike Strefford, Head of Policy, Security & Assurance, Vodafone

Professor Clive Walker, School of Law, University of Leeds

Professor John Adams, University College London

Peter Ryan, Head of Homeland & Critical Infrastructure Security & Resilience, Hyder Consulting

Andrew Wood, Director of Risk, SERCO

RUSI - Securing the Critical National Infrastructure Conference

No surprises on who pops up on Day Two:

Quote:
0900 – 1030 Session Six: Public/Private Sector Interdependence/Interaction.

Chair: Peter Power, Managing Director, Visor Consultants

Very reassuring.

In response to his earlier fling with the Stalinist left, the Stirling University graduate Reid, responds that he "also once believed in Father Christmas".

Well, PhDoc, if anyone believes you or your cronies anymore I'd wager that they're quite likely to still cling onto the Santa myth too.
