So, they wouldnt have even needed to scramble fighter jets to intercept errant airplanes, they could have taken them down in seconds using mthel. It even has it's own radar tracking system. Are they deployed at the Pentagon? It would make sense don't you think?

The technology seems plausible enough.
No reason to suppose this dosent exist.

But conventional is still better, this is why this type of weapon is still not widely used.

First if several rockets bombs or missiles are incoming this is very slow at intecepting them, it needs to hold the heat ray on the bomb for several seconds to trigger it to self destruct.
And on a battlefield you are not going to have access to loads of generated electricity so after a few shots the power supply may run out.

EMP will also make this weapon redundant.

This is like star wars technology on the ground.

Just think of the possibilities of air borne MTHEL weapons.

You could zap entire aircraft with no need for hijackers or bombs.

Space based versions could . . .
