It was announced today that human-animal hybrids have been given the go-ahead to help further research into curing human diseases.
This is obviously for the reason that although you can research illness in mice or dogs or whatever and then attempt to treat them with new drugs, the results will differ when administered to human beings. You can't develop humans for research, so human-animal hybrids are the next best thing.
This opens potentially the greatest ethical and moral dilemma to face us as a race, as a society. The enormity of allowing consciousness to form within such 'creatures' (you choose your own label if that is uncomfortable, not appropriate), is unfathomable. What if some escaped, were allowed to reach maturity?
This is a biggy. |

Nah, what they're allowed to do won't let it get anywhere near that:

If the hybrids are allowed to grow and mature into clear, unequivocal, easily understood forum members then it could be argued that it might be a good thing.
However, given that the subjectivity of such is open to interpretation, notwithstanding the immense responsibility when making or attempting to make a decision, then the whole debate could be opened up, or contracted, or even left as it is, alone or together in a poll such as this, to which I couldn't possibly respond even it I wanted to because of reasons that I haven't yet quite worked out.

You are absolutely correct, rules put in place will stop anything untoward happening. There was even talk, can't remember where I heard it exactly, that despite laws and statutes, aircraft were flown into large buildings arranged by the government that ran the country! That can't be true though, what with rules and stuff. Rules will stop anything happening.
Of course we have no way of knowing what has gone on behind the scenes, possible military applications, who knows? Give it time, a little bit longer here, another month there. |

Agree with you there tele, just like robbing banks was made illegal, we now have nobody robbing banks.
these 'ethical' scientists have been growing ears on a mouses back for decades!!! perhaps we have not given enough thought to an ear growing out of a human back to realise its potential for manking? |

Yeah I agree with Tele.
Mind you, I'd like to see something like the original version of the fly with Blair or Brown as the human. Just for the "Help meeeeee" bit.

Without wishing to stir it any more;
Two days ago I heard on the news that it was anticipated that the number of reported/diagnosed cancers is expected to rise considerably. Strange that this follows so quickly.
Much like the number of street crimes that are published just before a spate of CCTV installations. |
