Excellent stuff, but I wonder if Guardian readers can see through this kind of thing. One would hope that the number of references to unnamed ‘informed sources’, etc., would, at the very least, subliminally seep through into the mind of anyone interested enough to read an article headlined: Iran's secret plan for summer offensive to force US out of Iraq.

This is, more or less, a daily event on BBC World Service News, with their correspondent standing in front of a shot of the White House, reading copy from the White House Press Office’s AutoCue service, prepared as an electronic handout for distribution as the media sheep shuffle out of the briefing room.

To the irritation of my 15-year-old son, I'm always jumping up and down, venting my wrath at the incredible blatancy of the BBC, acting as a relay station for White House policy, opinion and comment. There must be many people like me, who now watch the BBC only to check out what not to believe about what is going on in Iraq, Israel or anywhere else, for that matter.

The only thing I almost trust is the BBC’s weather reports, except that I fail to see why the forecaster always has to stand in such a way as to block that bit of the world in which I live, thus preventing me from seeing the cloud coverage. But I guess that epitomises what is going on at every major news outlet in the world: there is always someone there to block the most important bits of information.
