"The Forum" was spam attacked though IMO you are right that the spam attack was an excuse, not a reason: it could easily have been saved if the admin wanted to.
There is an email from Harris to Sean, Ickes webmaster, offering to transfer the entire database to the new forum, sent one week before: the only reason to do so is that Harris wanted to close the site. And he found a way to do so
There is a completely unmoderated forum started by ciggy, www.webanarchy.net

it was pulled by its creator - and he had been looking for an excuse to close it for a long time as it served him no purpose... kinda became frankensteins monster |
