Download Ubuntu from its website: www.ubuntu.com

If you're looking for a lighter version for older computers: www.xubuntu.com

It comes for a lot of different architectures (like most Linux distros do), like x86, x86-64, IA64, etc.

You'll need to burn the CD images to disc.

its at least 750MB (about a CD's worth) iirc, but I'd spend £20 on the Ubuntu Book and free disk from PCWorld mate, makes getting to grips with a new operating system easier

Contact the Ubuntu site and they will mail you a cd for free. Takes weeks but I was sent a pack of 10 to distribute. Costs you nothing.

I use Al Qwindows v911

No viruses.

No need for a firewall.

No Spyware.

It's freeware, distributed from Vauxhall Cross and is mirrored at Homeland Security.

The only downside I've noticed is that, occasionally, some irksome truth sites get through and corrupt my browser, Al Qwinternet Devourer v777, and I end up having to switch off and watch the BBC all night.

Still, it's free, and I have the GCHQ plug in.

You can download it here: http://www.al-qaeeda-explosive-software.site-institute.us
