25th July 2007

Brown to announce plans for new Terrorism legislation today, including extending the period of pre-charge detention beyond the current 28 days.

These plans were first announced to the Commons by the former Home Secretary John Reid on 7.6.7

Today's announcement by our new shiny PM, comes 1 month and the 19th day of Reid's statement to the House.

25 July 2007 also marks the first anniversary of the introduction of 28 day pre-charge detention which came into force under TACT 2006 on 25.7.2006, 1 year and the 19th day after London 7.7

TACT 2006 received Royal Assent on 30.3.2006, 1 year and 19 days after the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2005 received Royal Assent on 11.3.2005

London 7.7 followed on the 119th day of PTACT 2005 becoming law.

Blair suffered his first Commons defeat over extending the 14 day pre-charge detention limit to 90 days.

If he had won the vote, the decision to detain "terrorism suspects" up to 90 days would have been made on 9.11 (2005)
