I'm feeling jealous already George. NZ sounds like the best place in the world to be...beautiful yes, but more importantly isolated from the northern hemisphere's weather systems.

Hehe.....but don't be fooled....we get some pretty atrocious weather here too. The cats and dogs ensure these islands remain well and truly green, particularly at the present time of year.

Seems I'm not the only one who felt an antipodean lifestyle would be more soothing on the soul.....

And of course, on the whole, I fully agree. However, I'm somewhat puzzled by the recent decision to expel Rayed Mohammed Abdullah Ali who alledgedly flatted with Hani Hanjour in the months prior to 9/11. And since Hanjour was hardly able to fly a kite, never mind the Pentagon missile, I fail to see how this naiive fledgeling government could consider Rayed to be a "threat to national security."

Anyhow; top marks to Paul Thompson and his 9/11 timeline....an heroic body of work.

George, hi, Helen Clark was asked in Parliament regards Abdullah -

Keith Locke: Would it not have been a bit silly to designate Mr Abdullah, or Mr Ali, when the United States interrogated him intensively after September 11 and did not see a need to deport him, even though he was not a US citizen, and could she, without disclosing operational details, give us a bit more of an explanation of why he was deported, in view of the fact that the United States did not deport him?

Rt Hon HELEN CLARK: My understanding is the same as the member’s: that this man was not deported from the United States. Personally, I consider it a no-brainer that someone who has been a roommate of a 9/11 terrorist, and who is having pilot training, is here for no particularly good purpose. He seems to have had perfectly adequate English. He applied to come here to learn English. That is not what he set out to do. And he has gone.

Bearing in mind that Clark fell foul of the Israelis over the passports scam and in light of the US behaviour I suppose her remarks are open to interpretation.
