In 2001Tom Perry, the author of the MandateNow campaign, was the first complainant of child abuse at Caldicott School. It has taken more than a decade to secure convictions on multiple perpetrators who taught there, including the former Headmaster who abused Tom. If you did not see the media coverage, here is a condensed version: http://truevisiontv.com/films/details/97/chosen - just scroll down.
Tom’s MP., Cheryl Gillan (C) Amersham and Chesham, is the most recent politician to support our campaign and the first conservative. She was a former Education Minister with responsibility for List 99. We value her support and that of all the politicians from each of the parties who see the merit of our campaign and support it from a personal standpoint.
In parliament on 10th February during 'Topical questions' to DfE Ministers, Ms Gillan secured a meeting for Tom with Mr Gove (Secretary of State) for which a date is now settled. You can see Ms Gillan’s question to the Minister here: http://www.theyworkforyou.com/debates/?id=2014-02-10a.555.5#g560.6
Just prior to the meeting @MandateNow is addressing the Lib Dem Party Parliamentary Committee for Education (MP’s and Peers) on why Mandatory Reporting is vital. The Government has provided someone to argue for the maintenance of the failing status quo. We wish the spokesperson luck with that.
FURTHER NEWS: @MandateNow is acting as the political and legislative arm of Paula Barrow’s highly successful 'Daniel's Law' petition which has close to 97,000 signatures. Paula’s petition shares our objectives for Mandatory Reporting in all Regulated Activities. Please visit and sign it, every signature counts. She’s done a great job. Daniel died on 3 March 2012 – the anniversary is just days away.
To demonstrate the mindset that faces us, please take this link to see the position maintained by the NSPCC the principle child protection advisor to the Department for Education. The NSPCC has declined to explain this statement.
